Don't get me wrong, I am as much of a Star Trek fanboi as anyone could be, but come on Cripitc, I want to see in-game footage of people actually playing.
these screenshots are nice, but they all seam too cinamatic to be taken seriously.
show me some interface action, someone transfering power to the shields, etc.
Sorry pal, this game is "less Spocky and more Rocky."
For the love of God. In every Star Trek show they transfer warp power to the shields to get their collective butts out of a jam. for once in a g'damn star trek game I want to be able to do the same.
There is a video clearly showing you can do exactly this, with a Cryptic presenter talking about how. JYCowboy is just trying to turn you off to the game.
No, I really don't want to turn anyone off of the game. I even plan to play. What I don't endorse is the lack of more technical aspects of the game that are more in theme with Star Trek. Star Trek is not about combat. Combat is what happens when deplomancy breaks down. True, the Klingons shoot first but not without some provocation or motive.
The developers think that the combat is all players care about. Have you ever been bored of combat? What makes this IP interesting is its utopian future ideal of an organized space fleet exploring the galaxy. Star Trek is about teams of explorers discovering new mysteries, finding ways to study them and negotiate agreements with new cultures.
What makes this more than a space sim with a few added sliders? I've played Starfleet Battles and Starfleet Command, what will truely set this MMO a part from those games?

it would be interesting to see a game where you could do a majority of Leveling/advancing with out combat. Honestly the first MMO to pull it off will be a hit imo. thats where a lot of mmos are bust or fail...its all about the combat system. I have heard to many times that this game or that games combat is to slow compaired to..well you all know...and so they refuse to play it because the combat mite be a hint slower paced or not Fast enough. Honestly a few games I have played that you ACTUALLY see each hit or swing was refreshing, instead of seeing just a blur of animations. :

That game is called EVE Online. You can advance all you want without ever firing a shot.
As many people seem to love EVE's advancement system as hate it because they can't "grind moar mobs to lvl faster". Cryptic is going with the system the majority of MMO's use. Safe bet on their part.

^This. Oh, and MUDS had no combat (ok, combat as we know it today, at least), were online, multiplayer. So... Zork... in friggin SPACE... with graphics... I bet the IP wouldn't cost you more than 30 or 40 bux. Good luck with that.
NPC Crewmember - captain, someone left a spanner in the plasma manifold!!!
You - Get it out of there!
DIIIIING!!!! You are now level 42 in decision making skillz! Congradulations!!!!
Ship flies off into the distance, safe once again from the ravages of chance non-combat encounters... for now....!?!?!?!?
Point is, a majority of games are combat based, because that's what is exciting. Changing out the oxygen scrubbers 1,399 times to level up really wouldn't be a great game mechanic. I'm sure you CAN do mundane tasks, but only an idiot company would post screenshots of that to hype up their product. Be aware that companies won't be posting screenshots of such trivial tasks to sell their product, that's what the website descriptions, dev logs, and other more mundane communication outlets are for. Space ships, lasers, and evil half-robot zombie vampires, however, sell product.

Iam, I believe he was kind of poking fun at exactly that. Doesn't look like that was his intention, to sound condescending to anybody except the people that don't understand there is more than one way to advance. I could be wrong, but that's what I got from it, and the basis for my personal agreement.
