Enuff of mediocre MMO's! Bring on THE MMO with EPIC features & proportions!

LOOK! I'm tired of trolling and ranting at the mediocre or less mmo releases that come out like from a factory line that are almost a copy from the last one. Stop supporting those altogether! THE LIST FOR THOSE IS ALREADY A MILE LONG!

It's not the developers / investors fault they just want to make money! THE POWER to change the MMO GENRE is with US the customers!

When the devs & Investors realize they can't make quick cash with their OVERHYPED and FLASHY games with initial box sales anymore they will either drop what they are doing or try to create something truely EPIC and NEW to make the CROWD go WILD to get them HOOKED for a long time and not just lure them in with cinematic trailers and flashy barbie dolls and whatever cheap tricks! We need substance, depth and creativity in MMO's!

Unfortunately you have to realize that the majority of players are shallow, stupid and easily distracted with flashy trinkets.  In just about any poll you can find, more people will vote for flashy eye-candy as the most important thing in a game than with game mechanics.  It can suck donkey balls and still get players just because the graphics are pretty.

So long as that is true, you'll never get any true innovation because there's no impetus to work hard to change what's already working for most companies.

Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, Aion, Allods, lots more

We need to make the MMO companies STARVE! Then they will weed out their weak and kick out their old dogs and give the new blood a chance to shine! To be creative!

They are BEING SPOON FED BY US! That only makes them fat and stupid!

    Yeap, red color looks nice.

    Just read what Cephus404 says.

Do you have any ideas how those millions of stupid, shallow, unintelgent or whatever you call them, to make them stop playing/buying these games?                If you do, lets do it, if no what is the point for such stupid thread? we know it, we though it...

One way is that you create such game and attract many players! GO FOR IT, WE BELIEVE IN YOU!

No I don't have any other idea than this propaganda! And if you agree with me but shoot my propaganda down then I won't have much luck with this either do I? Thanks F a lot!

Other than this I guess someone would have to MAKE THEM, but unfortunately we live in a democratic World now.

If only money never existed. no greed, no jealousy, no hatred, just mmorpg and the internet.

This thread won't accomplish anything, without defining what's so wrong about existing MMORPGs.  And please define it in terms which aren't merely "oh gee, 80% of everything is crap yet I'm going to be shocked and outraged when 80% of games are crap."

This is really just a function of comparitive analysis.  Your brain latches onto the 20% best and dismisses the rest.  In a world with no other MMORPGs, WAR or AOC would be seen as kings!

The second big point is that I think a lot of people say they're looking for something different, but are really looking for the same thing.  Case in point: the last game you bought had "MMORPG" on the label.  If the next game you buy has "MMORPG" on the label, are you truly looking for something different?

I think there's plenty of room left for innovation in MMORPGs too, but if I was as outraged or frustrated as the OP seems I wouldn't bother posting about it - I'd simply buy other games.  Not only will I have the "different" game I want, but I'll have spoken to developers with the loudest voice possible: my money.

You're talking to the wrong crowd.

The folks you want are busy playing an MMORPG right now.

Reminds me of all the dumb threads I see on the forums that get billion pages..

"Is there jumping in the game?"

"Why are there only X races/Why only one gender on race X? More races = better game!"

"How good is the customization aspect?"

Yeah, those features make or break the game. You all have your priorities right!

Or just let things run their natural course. MMO gaming studios are learning. This genre now has money and attention of  the gaming masses (not to mention social acceptance), something it didn't have 10 years ago.

There's plenty of variety inside the genre between themepark/sandbox, fantasy/sci-fi to get hooked on a least a title. Rally-crying to boycott the genre on some forum in the corner of the internet is laughable. Be reasonable.

Give the genre about 3 years more to assimilate feedback and research, money on hand and development. I'm fairly certain in this time window we'll see some solid titles.

That is exactly right, and we're not saying NO to save WoW, because it is already a lost cause. We are saying NO to dissuade the next group of greedy suits who decide to emulate Blizzard and Cryptic, etc.
We can prevent some of the future games from spewing this crap, but the sooner we start saying no, the better the results will be.
So - Stand up, pull up your pants, and walk away.

OK just to list a few MAJOR FLAWS or lack of feature in just about EVER MMO

    - THE WORLD IS DEAD. Static spawn farms everywhere. Everything in the World can be predicted / calculated there is no randomness and the World doesn't adapt / change -> AI needs MUCH improvement!

    - Player is being FORCED and HOLD HANDS with in just about everything you do. Pointers and quest journals tell you what to do / where to go. It's that fracking campaing quest and whatever BS! The path is laid before you instead you finding it out on your own and exploring to challenge that brain of yours now your just following the pointers with other aids such as gps radar maps and forced mechanics! The feeling of being LOST and AFRAID is gone! MMO's have really downgraded in this sense! Only downhill since late 1990's in that regard!

    - Game being dumb / boring in the start but gets better IN THE END? WTF? Why the boring grind for a few weeks and then it gets fun? Entertaining? Isn't that bad for business? People quit before they even get to the fun stuff..

That was just a few to get started I will post more.. When I find motivation again..

You are right they have money and social acceptance. Just that one thing that has downgraded the whole genre -> attention of the masses.. I just pray to the gods that mass will EVENTUALLY BECOME JADED just like me and don't accept that same old crap anymore.

The masses watch reality TV as a staple of their entertaiment, think top 40 music is the end all and be all and love gossip shows and magazines.

I think once the die hard gamers realize that games are no different than any other entertaiment medium they will realize where they stand.
