    1) Read up and educate yourself, when I was in the beta the little intro to the game you can play through does not really prepare you for what you need to know.

    2) This may sound dumb but, don't panic or beg. If you can find a nice enough player and ask them a few questions.

    3) Really give the game a try. Yeah the game might be hard at first, but once you get into the flow of things, the game is very fun. If all else fails and your still not having fun remember, this game is not for everyone. No one game, fits all.

Just on point one they have added more help and new tutorials as well but this game does benefit, as you say, from pre reading.  However I did just jump in but Iike feeling lost and trying to find my way.

    QFT.

I am really enjoying the game myself. The game is not for those carebear wow kids that just want to jump in and either

    1) gank other people

    2) raid endlessly to get better/best gears (FE rewards crafting and all best items are from crafting)

    3) looking for a eye candy game (FE is not an eye candy game ....period)

despite the flaws, this game is fun to play.

    1. If you start a char in the middle of no where, it's a bug, log out and log back in.

    2. If you log in and only see objects, no floors or walls, it's a bug, log out and log in.

    3. If you have troubles with a skill not working (always red) or anything else (lost horse), log out and log back in.

    Log out, and log in.

  • Challenging to think of tips not already here...

    1. Garages are useful - where you can stow a mount, buy fuel or feed, etc. My tip is that you can see them on the large road map as little white squares. Most of the garages are a little ways out of the towns on the main roads... where you might expect a garage to be.

    2. Leave your class expectations at the door. Really. Both the classes you are used to from other games and your own expectations of what will suit you. For example, with respect to fighting try melee, pistol and rifle. See what you are genuinely comfortable with. Do this before you spend AP.

    3. Focus on crafting armour first... that way you can quickly equip your character so that he/she doesn't look like an idiot. Once I had a duster jacket, some leather trousers and some 3-d glasses I enjoyed playing a whole lot more because I absolutely hated the look of the starter clothing.

    4. You can get into the setting simply by asking yourself, well what would you do if it was really you in this post apocalyptic desert? What would be important to you to have? Decent food? Decent clothes? And what do you think humanity needs at this point? Order? Chaos? Science? A return to nature?

    Welcome and have fun! :)

I agree. That's why I made a crafter chick first and played naked for a while. Problem solved.
