I dont get the complaints of the updates taking days to complete. I installed on Friday, started the patching, went out shopping with the old lady for 3 or so hrs, came back, watched a movie and was ready to play. I think it took a total of 5 hrs for me to fully patch.
Also, I dont the screams about it was too early for a free trial. This is honestly the perfect time for it. The game is new, there is still a good buzz. Let people try the game and then buy it. It creates more loyalty to a small indie dev imo. I think that is the biggest error Darkfall made, not giving a short free trial. You are not a big name dev, you need to tempt me into checking out your game.
Yeah, the large influx of trials caused some major server bumps. It really sucks.
"and icarus did just about every mistake they can over the last month or so." .... What? They've made two mistakes so far. 1) The Server has some issues 2) Letting trials in so soon I like the fact they get trials right out of the gates, but a lot of the subscribers are still in S1, so the trials are saturating it and causing tons of lag. I'm also thinking there may be backlash with the trials, people who really should never have played the game complaining about aiming and crafting times.
alternately, the trial came across at just the right time for me. lets me see if I'm going to spend the $$ on the game as i've been very interested in it and it's grown alot better since 2nd stage of beta where it completely let me down.
Very cool, can't wait to see you in the wastes

ive let the updater run while i was out of my home over the weekend. now the dl size was about 4gig, nothing to much. when i came back it seems that the download was done (it said start instead "patching" w/e it was/) anyhow i was dead sleepy so ive closed the updater and want to sleep. next time that i opened the updater, it says something like" hey mofo dl 4 more gigs".
at the time FE folder was juat about over 1 gig. its Monday now and im still dl.... shame. bad updater is all i can say.,
Mine downloaded in 2 hours.
No, the updater is fine, your comp however is not (or your ability to actually use a computer rather, you know, troubleshooting problems and all...).
Your own ignorance is not the fault of the updater or company, that rests solely upon your own shoulders. Stop trying to make the game appear as something it isn't, when it is easily the best mmo released within the past two years.
and that is why FE forums are full with people with the same problem?
ive dl AoC 17 gig in 10 hours or so....
go flame someone else flameboy.
FLAMEOFF.

I installed the game on two different systems over the weekend. There are some real problems with the patcher.
XP-Box
Patcher was not responding twice, but on the third try it went through the whole download. In total it took about 9 hours.
Vista-Box
It got a false complete after about 6000 files. It would periodically slow down every couple hours and it was definitely not my internet connection. Restarting the patcher would speed it back up. It needed over a dozen restarts to complete and it still took 20 hours to finish. It probably could have been done in a dozen hours or so, but it took a while to figure out that a restart would speed up the slow state that it would get into.
Overall it was one of the worst patcher experiences I have had for a MMOG. I have no idea why they didn't rebuild a new install with all the content included. Especially considering the influx of trial players.
Regardless, it got setup and runs great. Performance-wise, FPS gets into the teens occasionally when entering town, but its usually at 100+ FPS while outside down with the options nearly maxed out. Loving the game so far.
I beta tested FE for a bit near the end. Loved the atmosphere, but was never able to get time to test much. Some of the gripes listed in this thread, I had issues with. FPS dropped really low any town I went to, Lag was real bad at time (as expected in beta IMO), and the real game seemed so much different than the tutorial. I never got the time to get used to not kickin butt like in the tutorial is all...
I got a trial key and will see what I missed.

Lol i like how he said, grabbed a key d/led the client and hopped in...if only it was that easy..I had to leave the patcher on all night and im still waiting with like 30 mins to go just to get all the updates installed....still waiting......
Took me about 5 hours to download. Not the best downloader - I've seen libtorrent based downloaders do it 3x faster (5 gigs) and consistently. "Installing" took half hour. I don't know what it needed to install, because from what I can see FE doesn't use package files (put all the data in pseudo file system) - just copy & paste. Which I'm sure is going to take a toll on a lot of people's harddrives. Sigh.. even Blizzard's been doing package files for 15 years. It's very common, and should be standardized.
Other than that, and a few glitches, it's been pretty easy.

Playing the trial on an old Dell 8300 with dual 3.0ghz p4, 1.5gigs of RAM and a nvidia 6200 256mb vid card.
Lowest settings, which arn't that bad yet its playable even in towns. Eat that shit.
I was wondering how long it would take before someone recognized it.
