This new MMORPG is great, and I just wanted to encourage anyone that hasn't even taken a look to do so.
Might not be the end all off the genre, but its definetely something. So if your not eagerly awaiting WoW or Everquest, and still want to try something graphically and conceptually new. Check out Sage of Ryzom.
I did so yesterday and am enjoying it greatly.

Yes, this game was released at a kinda bad time (fanboys are so sure WoW and EQ2 are the best) so it is very over-looked.

Overlooked mmorpg?

Yes I am a Blizzard/World of Warcraft fanboi. And SoR is just plain old bad. Tried it out in beta, the game is a waste of time.

I'm subscribed to ryzom and I'm finding it a blast. At the moment there isn't all that much to do tbh but what there is to do is very good fun and upcoming updates look to set things right. The world itself is huge and constantly evolving and presenting new challenges although as the gamespot review says the game does have some major faults that are putting me off slightly and could lead me to the wow path.
They got a bad review because unlike most MMORPG's, they didn't have enough money to bribe Gamespot. I mean... Err.... Yeah they lost fair and square *Shifts eyes*
Actually, if i remember it right... Gamespot actually RE-Reviewed Star Wars Galaxies to give it a different rating. Now i wonder why that was .
Personally, I thought Gamespot's review was entirely accurate. I played Ryzom in beta...tried it twice...it just didn't satisfy, and their reasons for why it falls short were right on target.
I agree wholeheartedly with you (and i'm not even sure what that means). Ryzom in my oppinion deserved around a 6 or a 7. While it had alot of mistakes and was missing a few things, it wasn't terrible. I just wouldn't suggest buying it.
I was just expressing how sometimes gamespots reviews aren't quite.... Accurate. This one unfortunatley was. Download the free trial if you can... Other than that i can't reccomend buying it.
I recommend buying it... if you have a taste for different, original games. But yes, as I said when I started the topic, if your holding out for EQ 2, or WoW and DON'T want to try anything new or different, then no, you'll likely not find enjoyment in this game.
And yes the review is heavily slanted, which usually happens to games that don't 'support' gamespot through advertising. Most games that either A: don't have anything to offer Gamespot through a favorable review/preview (i.e. like future content: previews, interviews, movies etc to draw viewers to their site), or B: Don't have a major/successful label behind them, will not receive a good review. Its usually just how it is.
I can guarantee Guild Wars and Everquest II receiving amazing reviews. World of Warcraft, Im guessing, will not. (And you can quote me, hold me too it, whatever) because their contribution of content, advertising, and etc is low to none.
Anyways, this is not a discussion of Gamespot, but of SoR, which I still recommend, at least trying, when they have the 14 day free trial soon (which will happen after their major content addition, fixing alot of what was 'wrong with it' in Gamespot's review).
Saga of Ryzom is definitely the best mmorpg to come out in years .
i'm not talking about the beta, but the real thing

I played it for every weekend event they had. I honestly tried to enjoy it, but I couldn't.
The gfx weren't great. The storyline, um, well... Wat storyline? The skill trees were too complicated (meaning there was no way to easily tell wat lvl you were in certain skills compaired to combat etc).
Now.. The fonts for the chat are TINY, n the game jus lacks so much. Sure, theres a few quests you can do, but they're all unoriginal. Talk to the NPC, craftfind this, bring it back to the NPC. Wow. AMAZING. /sarcasm
Also, the POV is annoying. The controls are lacking ease. It's not a well put together game. I'm sorry to anyone who's in love with this game, becuz it is REALLY not worth your time, jus as any low budget game is.
Also, the GMs are basically non-existant. There's many bugs possible thru the using credit card-getting in game, so you may jus end up paying n getting nothing in return. Not like it can't be fixed, it'll jus take a few weeks.
Rating = 310 (3's for effort ^^)
Please do not go into a game, already with a negative outlook, take a shallow attempt at gameplay and then bash legitimate things in the game. Sure, feel free to say "I personally didn't like this game" but when its apparent your look at the game is very shallow be expected to be corrected, or at least argued with.
Did you play the game longer then the newbie island? (likely not), or you'd realize there is a story-line... or just talk to some of the NPCs? Im not sure what else to say. If you play the game you realize there is a storyline, not that complicated. Again, a matter of opinion I guess. Four simple trees with the ability to either learn a new skill or improve stats with your points doesn't come off as complicated to me. Its actually very much like Dark Age of Camelot, and many other MMORPGs, you pick a specialization and then power it up with points. Which MMORPGs is this not a staple of? Dark Age of Camelot, Star Wars Galaxies - two of the 'top-rated' games out there, this is their principle quest feature... may not be original in this respect, but unlike the two games, you gain reputation in Ryzom for doing quests, eventually opening more, influencing NPC prices with you, and many other aspects of the game. All fully adjustable, from first person to top-down, to every angle in between. Again, all fully adjustable. Including the font on the chat screens. Care to provide an example of a well-put together game?Being a fan of the game, I appreciate genuine opinions of it. Not just "I played this game and it all sucks. Roflmao"
So if the company didnt have the money to bribe gamespot to give them a better review than is deserved, that means the review that was given is HONEST. SWG also got a 7.5 / 10 . Thats hardly a spectacular review.

Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
I read 1 line and I was done with considering the game:
Aging.
Optional, race selected aging could work, but, it seem to be desribed as something inevitable. I like to be the main person making a decision to when I stop playing a character.
It could be the best game ever, if it have aging, perma-death, enforced a gamestyle(be it PvP, tradeskill or raiding) I dont enjoy or limit my personal freedom, I will just go play something else.
- "Solo is, will always be, the main market. A MMORPG that succeed with little or no solo appeal is doing great considering they are ignoring the main player base.''
- "If I understand you well, you are telling me until next time. " - Ren
its overlooked for a simple reason
suxx badly alota bugs many attacks dont work at all
nothing what they are promised is implimented
but still first what they do is the big nerve und not adding content ( mobs will do dubble damage ..more difficult crafting etc)
community is realy small and many ppl canceled after free month including me
Ryzom is trash.....Released too early with cookie cutter builds(Unless you totally gimp yourself) and no content whatsoever aside from "The Grind(tm)".
If it dosen't work right "Out of the box" then it dosen't work right.
I don't want to have to research a goddam thesis to enjoy playing the game. Or wait 6 months for the "potential" to show up.
Sorry just the way it is.

I never saw any ingame support, although all indications say they expected many more players and budgeted their GM numbers to support that many. Expect to see GM support go way down real soon.
Skill trees too complicated? I found it the exact oppsite. 75% of the skills are worthless, 5% are grossly overpowered, makeing it a no brainer which skills to pick up. Everyone is a cookie cutter or they are gimped out with utterly useless crap.
Intricate storyline? I don't buy a MMOPRPG to READ A GODDAM BOOK. I buy one to play the game. I don't give 2 shits what they have posted on their website about the backstory, if it ain't in the game then it dosen't exist. You want to read a book, go to Barns&Nobels.
Missions/Quests not worse than other MMORPGs? You ARE jokeing right?
On second thought I ain't even gonna answer this one. If you think the quests in this game are up to par with say...EQ1, or UO, or DAOCSBE&BMC:OWOWEQ2Imperianna...Eh bla you got your head so far up their ass your smelling breakfast.
