Outpostgamez recently sent in an email to the creators of Stargate Worlds, Jeremy Taylor the Marketing Director of Firesky had this to say about the current state of the game at this time. While it isn't what we were looking for, it is good to hear that they are still moving along while also seeking future funding to finish the product.

The new news is there is no new news. That's what the new news says.
It's kind of funny that I noticed this post. Just yesterday I tried to sign up for the beta testing for this game on their website. I had to register as a member of the site first, but to continue I have to wait for a confirmation e-mail from them....I'm still waiting. I double checked how I entered my address on my profile page, it's correct. I even asked for another confirmation e-mail which I also never received. So I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling about this game when I can't even get a site membership.
Sad, but so true!
I don't get why any outsider would pump money into this. MGM isn't exactly broke. If they're refusing to salvage this game, why should anybody else chip in to try and make sure their licensing fees get paid?
BTW, anybody check out the new Stargate Universe crapfest? SG-1 was great -- military scifi better than TV has ever seen. Theoretically could have made a great MMORPG. Then it turned into Fargate. And now this new thing is nothing but all melodrama, all the time. Will a space-based soap opera cut it as a computer game? Wouldn't there kinda be a different set of demographics? No wonder MGM has decided to let this game twist in the wind.
With the Lawsuits and Federal Investigations for Fraud, Security Exchange Fraud and people wonder MGM is still supporting them? They should just throw the towel and get the devs to work on other projects.
The current season of Stargate Universe is a piece of crappy trash, the game itself is dead. They should let it die. MMORPG.com needs to stop bringing it up.
i think we can expect a paid to play beta test in the form of a one time fee to participate in beta.
I actually like the new stargate actually. Reminds me of battlestar galactica. Its more real and gritty to me. Less sci fi for sure imo though.
That's not really the case. MGM is trying to restructure its debt, and was very close to filing bankruptcy, at least in September.
Me too. Good story so far...
Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.
Same here, alot more tense and enjoyable than SG-1 ever was for me, though thats not to say I didn't enjoy SG-1 as I did, but SG-U has another element to it that SG-1 lacked, real depth and solid characters.
As for the on-going saga that is the MMO, well is this game really ever going to see the light of day under it's current leadership, highly doubtful, but the drama surrounding the project is in itself quiet entertaining, nearly as much as when Darkfall released.
I can barely summon the desire to watch SGU. The characters are all very uninteresting so far, with only Rush and Eli providing some interest. The general whining of most really grates on me.
The story? Boring. We've already had the obligatory close shave on getting back before the timer runs out. We got so see some sort of unexplained intelligence on a planet that will never be explored further.
The ancient communication device just about completely removes any feeling of isolation (from the viewer's perspective, at least). I know why they did it though.
"Atmosphere" itself does not make for a story. And it's not even close to BSG in overall quality.
I'll probably continue to DVR it, or watch it on Hulu for a while longer. But it's no longer "must-watch" TV like the old series. I'll almost certainly not buy the DVDs like I did with the others.
Well using my Goa'uld spy cam I've got some secret data on the SGU team, it seems they've been posting here a fair bit!
Well it seems the irony is lost on some of them but I hiope we can all still see it?

Plot question:
Now that the ship is recharged, why can't they just dial Earth and go home?

That's a pretty simple one, though muddied with all their talk about dialing home when they first got there. How could it not be clear to them all that the power they need is immense, given how they needed that planet to even try to begin with?
The ship may be charged enough to operate, or maybe even charged as fully as it can be in its condition, but is no where near healthy enough to have that kind of power. Just like Atlantis was operating quite well eventually, but lacked the power to dial Earth.

That's quite a leap there. What is your evidence that the ship hasn't been FULLY recharged? If one dip in the sun wasn't enough, why would the ship not go back for another? Perhaps the ships IS too damaged to dial home, but I have seen nothing to suggest that that is the case, and Rush hasn't given any indication of it, either. Don't cover plot holes with the 'ship is too damaged' blanket.
Atlantis used ZPMs - not solar dips. That red dwarf wasn't going to run out of power.

Well personally I like it a lot better than stargate Atlantis. Stargate Atlantis never grew on me each week I was praying somebody would squash Rodney or shoot him or something, and Dr Wier yea that too.
I still watch SG1 before they brought Claudia Black and whats his name Krieton from farscape in, and totaly ruined the dynamic that made it SG1. I tolerated the season where we lost Daniel, and then he came back, but after we got those two acters from farscape it became a show that was hard to watch.
However I have to agree somewhat, all the added sex that were getting in SGU is not needed and is just filler that they could do to help with the show. It will be interesting to see what they do. I am still watching it to see what they do, hopefully they will be able to pick up the pace some. I am not ready to give up on it yet like I did with Atlantis.
You're the one who made the initial leap in suggesting that the ship was completely recharged, or enough so that it could dial a 9-chevron address. I was simply coming up with one of the extremely plausible rationales for why not.
After all, we KNOW they won't be able to dial earth and get back. The show would then just end... or would be transformed from the "ragtag" group of characters to ones really suited for the job.
As for Destiny's power supply, Rush was almost contradictory on the subject. First, he said that the ship had replenished its "reserves". That implies a secondary supply. But then he goes on to say that Destiny is powered by the stars. I have a feeling that whatever he says at this point is extremely subject to change
this is why they cant dial earth

Uh huh. Well, at least they didn't ignore it altogether. It worked well enough to get them there, though. Also, it was going through the dialing process in the pilot episode.
Not terribly convincing. The Icarus gate was able to tap the planet's core for enough juice to dial the ship.

Good for you. There's certainly nothing WRONG with soap operas, or the people who love them.
It's just that there're like two dozen new episodes of them made per day. Yes, they are popular, but there's no reason that one type of show has to squeeze out every other genre.
The average cable viewer has hundreds of channels these days. There should be room for a science fiction series or two that isn't "less" science fiction.
The trend is getting worse with all these so-called "reality" shows. They could make a show about bass fishing, and have every character in it be a sociopathic homosexual. And it would be popular as heck, just like they all are - for a little while. Until the same mob of viewers flock to the next big melodrama.
Sure, it takes a LOT more talent to make a plot-driven story interesting than it does a character-driven melodrama. But there is an audience out there for sort that sort of thing too. And lately we're always getting shafted.
The show is "Lost" on a ship instead of an island. The first season all about getting the stuff they need to survive, one item at a time, and learning a very little about the ship/island. Season two more about learning the ship/island. Season three attempts to get off ships/island that are closer to successful. Season four some peopel get off ship/island. It is practically story for story of Lost with a BSG flare for episodes that could be done in 15 minutes, but they turn it into an hour with 'dramatic" camera scenes that really add nothing to the plot.
Well, it's a 'SyFy' show. Got to tone down all that uncomfortable science that makes some people feel dumb.
SF for the Jerry Springer demographic.

The show would be better if Harold Zoid was directing. Aleast there would be people dancing and throwing pies in the background. ANYTHING to distract from the depressing attitude of every single character on the show.
I also hated BSG and I can't understand why this show is so obviously trying to copy it. Depressing characters, bizzare plots and sex were never what the Stargate shows were about.
If you want to watch a soap opera then go watch one. But don't try to turn every other show on television into one.

They would actually have to produce code for that.

Yeah... I don't think we should expect ANYTHING at this point. The story here has reached its end or something very close to it.
I suspect this game will be the next Duke Nukem Forever. The devs will continue to tell us they are working on it but it will never be released. And slowly, quietly, over the course of the next several years, we will all forget this game ever existed.
