This type of post has probably been made many times on this forum, but here goes anyways.
I'm tired of being burnt by MMOs. I tend to jump into MMOs head first and almost never get out of them the first $50 that I put in. Even when I do get a few months of play in, which normally would justify $50-$60 for a game, I feel like I spent those months just building frustration until I realized I was on an unhappy path. In those instances I almost would have rather just paid the $50 and been unhappy in the first few weeks.
At any rate, my point here is that this game looks very interesting to me. Parts of it sound like the old school SWG where crafting meant something and the world was somewhat open ended. If that's the case, I'm definitely interested. The problem is, I just can't take a game based on what I read anymore.
So questions are....
1) Is there a free trial?
2) If not, are there buddy keys regularly available?
3) Is it even worth trying this game out?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

There's a free trial going on right now for the Halloween event: http://www.fallenearth.com/node/206
Deleted original statement as I was wrong.
whoops just do a little research on it read reviews from other gamers and you you wont get burnt
Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
Now Playing: N/A
Worst MMO: FFXIV
Favorite MMO: FFXI
1) You just missed a MMORPG.com free tril cd key give away. At least I think they are out of keys. You should go check.
2) Buddy keys, yes. Readily available, dunno. You'll have to ask on these forums to see if anyone will spot you one.
3) I think so. Considering I have no idea what you like gaming wise, it'd probably be best for you to go to the official site, read up on it and decide if it's something you like. If it has features you like, then it's worth trying.
Oh, and not trying to be smart, but read the system requirements and make sure your system at least meets the minimum requirements. Also make sure you have the most current drivers for your video card. If it's an nVidia card, make sure it is a X600 model (where X = 6,7,8 or 9). The second number highlighted in green should be a 6+ as well.
Oh, and make sure it hasn't been months since you last defragged your Hard drive. Basically, proper computer care done on your machine, and run the game without having other applications running in the background.

I'm the same i jump around lots of mmo's and rarely last more than a few months but if i enjoy that time i dont care. I've recently got aion and champions online (played open beta champions box steal sealed lol) as i pre-ordered them and i downloaded the trial of fallen earth (thanks mmorpg.com) and i realy enjoyed the game and have purchased it via their site (free atv :P).
I'm and eve online player have been for a long time and im used to sandbox games and well i dont want to go into huge details about the game as its late and im tired but i will give you a quick honest opinion about the game.
Its a sandbox game yes, its different yes and yes it has its problems it reminds me of how eve online started out its got the game structure there and some content to keep players happy for alittle bit but its still a work in progress it needs alot of bug fixing and server issue's need fixing too (ASAP) once the core of the game is running smooth they should start adding content to the game (hoping its free content updates like eve online) but that being said there is heaps to keep players entertained for now! So in short give it a go.
P.S Small warning post above mentioned it fallen earth is realy fussy on what hardware it likes this is something the dev's should look into, fallen earth on my main desktop runs like crap but on my old one it runs better lol
Main computer:
intel core 2 quad 3.0ghz
4 gb ram
bfg Geforce GX280 1gb
Windows 7
FPS Jumps around and i get odd lag spikes 2fps in some places 20/30 in towns 80-150 desert.
old computer
Intel dual core 2.8ghz
2gb ram
geforce 6800 512mb
windows xp
FPS 30 in towns 70/80 everywhere else.
Thanks to all for the fast replies.
Apparently I'm a few days late for the free trial as the three participating sites are all out of keys. So if anyone would be willing to party with a buddy key it would be greatly appreciated.
As to getting burned, I always do my due diligence when researching a game but I've often found that it rarely makes a difference in the large scheme of things. Developers tend to make promises they can't keep or at best sometimes they just simply fall short on execution.
From what I've read the game "sounds" right for me, but I'm just not sure if I'm ready to part with another $50 only to add to my collection of MMO game boxes collecting dust.
My apologies if this comes off as whining, but I assure you I'm just a gamer looking to get his moneys worth.
Cheers!
Thanks for that.
Is it somewhat like SWG was in the old days in regards to community and crafting? One important aspect I'm curious about is can you setup shops or do you sell everything via the AH?
Thanks for that.

Yes its all AH and yes crafting is a huge part of the game but no its nothing like SWG in my opinion lol
P.S Would of given you a buddy key but it seems digital purchasers dont get them
Ya, research sometimes just isn't enough and you need actual gameplay experience. I've bought a few games that had things I wanted, just the execution wasn't done well and the game was a bust for me. Also had opposite where game was way better and different than i expected, hehe.
It kind of sounds like you're a bit burned out on any MMOs. Maybe take a break for a while if you don't get to try for free. If you really must play, you might just have to take a chance and buy it.
I liked some of FE, but it just didn't click for me. If I didn't get in beta, I probably would have bought it, and then been done after first month.
You can run this game using a 6600 card? If so, that's damn impressive. I'm using a 7800 gtx atm and i was shocked that i had no problems.
(Hmm somehow i messed up the format of this post, but I don't think I care enough to fix it...)
Consume. Be silent. Die.
I am a little under the required system specks with a Pentium 4 2.4gig (don’t judge me, just pity me) and am able to play and as of yet I am enjoying the game. Granted until I turned down the graphics range I would have horrible crashes after it flawlessly working for the tutorial but I expected some issues being under spec.
Here is a link to an older thread. This guy made a series of videos starting from character creation and some gameplay. These will also show a lot of the features so you can at least see some of the game.

I feel you I kinda do feel like I wasted 50 bucks on this game. It's hard to get past all the damn Mission's I would like to pass them up but the xtra AP are great to have.

The nVidia 6600 256MB is the minimum nVidia card that Icarus lists on the main website under the system specs page. The key point I've seen so far is that as long as it's a 6000 series or higher and the second number on the model is a 6 or higher then you should be able to run the game. Of course it goes without saying that that will be at varying degrees as no two computers will be the same once they are purchased (people put and do all kinds of weird crap to their machines). But yeah, if you have a 6600+, 7600+, 8600+ or 9600+ you should be ok video card wise. x500 nVidia models and below may have issues.

One of the main problems with people listing their spec and their perfomance is that all of them only think about their compter and forgot their screen. The game could run in a nvidia 6600, but i doubt you will get more than 5 fps if you using it conected to a 24" lcd screen
Very nice find, thanks for sharing.
P.S. If anyone does have a trial key I'm still looking for one. I really think I'll like this game, but I'm to far into buyer beware mode right now. Any help is greatly appreciated, just shoot me a PM.
