This game is unlike any other mmo on the market.

Take what you know about mmos and just flush it all down the toilet, like a bag of contraband when the cops are kicking in your front door. Everything you know is dead wrong!

things that are NOT in this game.

experience points

multiple servers

safe places

the ability to rush to the top level

Elves

Gnomes

Dwarves

Dragons

weekly PvE raids

mages

Warlocks

Necromancers

you get the idea.

What you get is one VERY large box of sand to play in with everyone else. As there is only 1 eve universe, your every action can influence the game. Almost everything i player made, there is no "epic leet raiding for the best geerz dur hur" in this game. the best of everything is player made and nothing is soulbound to your character.

Now, you may be thinking "well geez, this game must be mighty crowded if there is only 1 world" Nah, trust me, eve is MASSIVE and there is enough room for probably double the current population, and they add more systems on a regular basis.

For those who are used to "level grinding" this game is gonna throw you off, because you can kill and kill and kill till you pass out from exhaustion, but your character will never level up. Instead, you buy skill books and they automatically train over time, even while you are offline. Some skills may take a few days to a week, or even a month or two to fully train. However, this is the glory of eve online, as you probably won't be seeing very many noobs flying in the huge battleships and what not, and if they do, they won't last long in them.

In this game, dying is not a minor inconvenience. its a financial setback. If your ship explodes, it is gone and lost forever and will have to be replaced. and if your ISK (money) is mishandled and you take too many stupid risks, like spending all your money on a ship that you can't really afford to properly fit or lose, then you may find yourself broke and without a ship. the game provides you with all the rookie ships you will ever need, so no fear of not being able to get a ship.

PVP in this game is remarkably well balanced, and it comes down to more than just "my class > your class!" sure, some ships will obliterate other ships, however, every ship has its weakness. Stealth Bombers can chew large ships to bit, but a small, quick frigate can tear a stealth bomber to bits, and the frigate can't stand up to a larger ship because the larger ships have too much defense.

for those interested in trade but not combat, this is definitely a game you'll like. no real combat is required in order to make stuff. you will have to pop off the occasional rat (npc pirate), but in time you will have drones to handle that for you.

for those who like combat but not trade, you never have to make a single thing in order to get rich in this game. Money is more of a growth limiter than it is an actual burden.

also, this game is more of an alternate reality than pretty much any other mmo.with only 1 world, you can actually develop a reputation, whether it be good or bad.  if you develop a really bad reputation, you can't simply pay a few bucks for a server transfer to start anew. you have to make a new character and change your ways. of course, there is no quick way back to where you were. However long it took you to get where you were, it might not take quite as long to get there, since you know more than you knew on day 1, but still, its a painful process, and if word spreads about who you are, you're back to square 1. so don't develop a reputation you can't live with.

one last thing, if you're just getting into eve and you're looking for a corp to help you start, and you plan to play beyond the trial, just gimme a convo, the name's Umoto Korriken. the first few days of the game more often than not will influence whether or not you'll be playing for more than a couple of weeks. the pains of starting off is too much for some to bear, some who would otherwise love the game.
