I played WAR last winter just as the subs were dropping because of Lich King. I LOVED the game -- I played the tabletop version years ago, so the universe was awesome to be in -- but then something happened. The game felt dead, like it had no soul. I went to a few different games, Guild Wars, EQ2, then went back to WoW.
Played AION in the beta and was immediately smitten -- this is it, I thought, my new world to play in. Got the wings, ascended and then...something happened. The game just lost me. I didn't feel immersed at all. It was just a very, pretty game. Again, it was like the game had no soul.
Now Aion is live and WAR has a new patch that seems to have fixed a lot and I'm weirdly getting pulled in two directions, thinking I might want to go back to one or the other. I've got a great WoW guild but the game just feels like McDonald's of video games. I'd love to play something that feels like I'm really a part of something people care about.
Thoughts?

I haven't played WAR so I can't comment on that. As far as Aion is concerned, I canceled my sub yesterday due to the infestation of bots. They're forming guilds and operate indiscriminately.
So the question becomes, are you okay with a very large bot population and with seeing this (click image @ left) in every town? There's typically 1 to 3 of them and they'll position their bots next to the location that you port in and, of course, next to the populated Broker (aka "auction house") area.
I would rather play WAR over Aion.
Aion Hands down , and you need to over look the Bots , all MMOs have them , and there not going anywhere , so just get used to them.
Yeah, every MMO has bots.
You could say that every house has bugs, too. Don't bother to spray or clean, just get used to them. You know what happens when you have that attitude? Aion happens.
Sure every MMO has bots. Aion just happens to be the greasy $2 bot motel of MMOs. Some people, apparently such as yourself, are okay with that.
War is a good game I started back playing a few weeks ago but there is no one in the lower teirs of the game took me 2 hours to find another player in game where i was leveling at.
Aion im currently playing its pretty awsome it does have its bots issues and most of the game is alot of grinding. Classical good vs bad type game depends on the side you chose:) hehe we are all good. The pvp in game is top grade on some servers but sucks on others.
Thats from my exp with these two games
Good luck mate there in finding the game of your choice

I liked both games, got bored with WAR since pretty much everything that you can achieve was done and my guild decided to stop gaming, now I am playing Aion and like it. I would say that if you are not bored with WAR play it, I think it was better game as long as I was in a guild were it was fun to play.
Currently playing: N/A
Retired from: GW, WAR, Aion, LOTRO, Rift, SW:TOR, Vinductus

NCsoft quite recently banned tens of thousands of bots. I really don't get where people are coming from with this bs. Some people say that they have seen the same bots in the same areas for weeks now. Well, alright, but I have had the opposite experience.
I used to see a lot of bots in the swamps in Heiron and I would report all of them. After that massive banning wave I went to check out the swamps and most of them were gone. Since then more have come though, but it's a never-ending process. There is no Bot Final Solution. Well, there is, but it would involve NCsoft using the S. Korean army and their ability to track IP's to send soldiers to the actual location of people who own bots. Once there they would then be dragged out into the street and shot. Eventually word of this would get around and people would have to decide between getting shot or not botting. A ridiculously comical situation for sure, but not going to happen.
Every game DOES have bots. WAR had, has and will have bots and gold spammers. Even the vaunted WoW had, has, and will continue to have bots and gold spammers. AoC has bots, FF11 has bots everything has bots and gold spammers. People are only bitching about it so much in Aion because they're racist. Yes, racist, there, I said it. Sure it may be going to far, but I'm going to use hyperbole like everyone else because it helps me get my point across. Who the hell cares if it's not accurate?
Anyway - They're both fine games. I have heard a large number of complaints about the low populations in WAR (similiar to those of bots in Aion mind you). Anyone who bitches a lot is going to make any problem seem like this immense thing that can't be overcome regardless of whether or not it really is.
My advice? Stay far, far away from forums. You will hardly ever get a straight answer. Look at both games, see which one has features you like more then go try it out. In this case you can go try out WAR for free, but the first tier isn't going to give you an accurate representation of the game itself.
Tried both but had more fun in War only because you can pvp from lvl 1
The following statement is false
The previous statement is true
I personally had alot more fun in Aion, war combat was just too shallow and when i tried it the population was dead so many unique things like the rvr and public quests are left untouched until your near cap. I think im gonna wait till War releases an expansion of some sort before looking back.
WAR is amazing and all but every server is being dominated by Destruction besides Gorfang and Iron Rock. If you play on any other servers you'll be defending your city every night. And most of the Stage 1 PQ instances are filled with Destro but hardly any Order as well, so prepare to get steamrolled.
