i gave up wow last year when i leveled my warlock to 80 . I found the content in the lich king to be fun but i was tired of the game and wanted a break . Unfortunatly recently i came down with a nasty case of bronchitous so i thought i d come back for a month and see what things were like at present .
I really like that they have given xp for taking part in the battlegrounds and i ve spent a lot of time leveling a rogue alt in them . Which has been fun but as always they are dominated by one side in this case the horde . ( in other battlegroups its the alliance ) . I think the problem is that people still get honor from kills even if they lose which is has led to players grinding the battlegrounds rather than actually learn the tactics .
The other thing i ve noticed is the game has had a huge influx of younger players and the mature ones like myself are crying out for adult servers . I dont have a problem with young people playing WoW but the problem is they are so rude and obnoxious it makes the game very unpleasant to play . Being in an adult guild helps but it does nt change the feeling that your in a virtual school playground .
Another thing i noticed was many things in the game seam to be a lot easier to achieve and even though WoW still has that fun factor it does nt offer anywhere near the challenge it once did . All in all i had a good time but i dont think i ll be staying now i m feeling better .I would think about returning to play regulary if adult servers ever become a reality. Its community is far too immature and annoying for me at present which is a pity .

Yeah, I really don't see the point of them being so obnoxious and rude. They don't benefit anything out of that.. Did they ever realize that? I guess not. One of the major, bad factors about the game unfortunately. It'd be a fabulous game if the community was rational and nice!!! I'd have to sacrifice the socialization in order to play the game is to turn off the chats. Sad, huh? I honestly could never hate the game itself.. It's always familiar to me and I feel comfortable playing it if I want to kill time if I couldn't find anything else to play, lol.
Oh look, it's this thread again.
And how do you want to do it? Like that company who restricted female players to females only by webcam checking? I'd rather have some trash talk with "kids" than argue with a 20 years old adult who forces you to spec this, use that then do it like that even if he has no idea what he's talking about and never played the said class properly.
Just find a proper guild and enjoy the game, of course you'll meet hunters with spellpower gems who will call you a noob if you PUG, that isn't a WoW-only thing, that was in multiplayer games since ever.
And this immaturity can mean something else every time: in our guild we will probably not randomly gkick each other, but we still joke about random things when we aren't doing progress raiding or serious arena, some of them may sound even harsh for an outsider.
Yeah i chose it when i was ill because it did nt require any effort on my part to learn a new set of controls etc etc and it certainly passed the time .

no there are basically 10 random idiots in general chat who don't know how to shut up. Sad thing is they aren't children most of em are older than me and I'm 20
Push away from the kiddie table and join us at the adults table

You have no idea what you are talking about either. Probably because you are 15 years old yourself.
The single most reason I quit this game shortly after TBC was because of the exact reasons the OP is describing.
WoW has just one of the worst communities of any MMO game I have played so far. It's just downright horrible.
During my 2 years of play I have seen 4 servers going through the gutter! 4 servers!
They all started ok. With a nice community, just to see them getting ruined couple months down the road by the well known L337 kiddie invasion.
Cheers

Yeah, if you call the [Dirge]/[Krol Blade] spammers on /2 the entire WoW community, then yeah, it's horrible. But if you'd look further and find some decent players and a decent guild, then it won't look that horrible.
I've played enough to know that there are are a lot of great people in WoW if you actually ask nicely instead of going "IM MATURE YOU ALL KIDDIES SUCK LF ADULT GUILD".
After all, WoW isn't L2, you don't need half of the server to achieve something. One decent-sized guild with good players will be good for everything: arena and raiding, and even BGs if you enjoy them.
the community has a whole is actually really nice. I hate how people base what the community is like by reading general chat. Let me tell you general/global chat in every game is the same damn thing with immature kids/adults who really have nothing better to do. Just turn off the channel and you wouldn't have t complain
Since I couldn't play on my old account due to being broke... I was playing on trial..So, I was watching the local defense chat about these alliances kids were attempting to kill a horde. One of the alliance was like, "You couldnt even kill that person, so just give up" Someone said "We just did" and after that they said "gtfo" and they're all badmouthing that guy like children with all those internet lingos you know? I was like, wow.. how is that a big deal, I was asking myself in thought. The guy was like, "well.. congrats.. after several times you guys have died and just killed this horde once, and you go off on me?" They said some stuff that isnt worth mentioning. I honestly wanted to say something but I couldn't due to trial restrictions. Why couldn't people think before they type? Ugh.
Sadly, it isn't just general chat where you see the immaturity. It is also in the random Pug group or Raid where you can be doing average to high dps and still get booted because some immature jerk, and they aren't always teens, decided he wanted to invite a guildie or a different class he didn't have to compete with. This has happened to me on my mage and on my DK. To top that off they don't even explain the boot, they just do it and go their merry way like they own the server.
I'm not blaming the game in any way, because truth be told, it's just a sign of the world as a whole these days. I say this because I see the same disrespect when going to my local Walmart or convenience store, or worse yet, ANY major US city. Hell even, the new hire at McDonalds/Burger King couldn't say "Have a nice day",instead he handed the bag to me and just closed the window with barely a glance at my face.
Hmm, I find it really easy to ignore them and frankly if it wasnt for the kiddies the game would probebly be kinda boring .
yes there are jerks in every mmo i guess im lucky not to have to deal with them or when i do run across them i just ignore them and keep doing my thing.
lets face it you can grind to 80 alone in wow so finding one or 2 friends and doing it cant be that hard.
just remember most of the folks who you would think were children are over 20 and just use the net as a excuse to be assholes.
Some lead and some follow I prefer to stand beside!
I ve been thinking about this . It would nt be at all easy to police . A few things could be done to disuade children from accessing and adult server . A naming policey for a start so you dont get names like pownyou or pizzaboy etc also most childten dont have a credit card so maybe a payment to a blizzard adult account could appear othe monthly credit card statement alerting parents to what thier children are doing online . Most parents i know would nt want thier children playing on and adult server . Also maybe a warning message each time you sign in that an adult account has been logged into . It ll never be perfect but for a long time i ve thought it was a bad idea to encourage adults and children to occupy the same virtual space it would never happen be acceptable in a chatroom so why is it acceptable in a game .
In this day and age its a disaster waiting to happen . I would see an attempt at creating adult servers and accounts by Blizzard ( or any other mmorpg company ) as a good thing in that it would help protect children .

Haha, If I was ever mistreated like that irl.. I'd make sure to voice my opinion to their "boss" so that way it's not repeated in the future. Seriously, that's uncalled for. No one should ever get walked on just that because they're uptight or grumpy that day. Fuck that. Personal/business shit ought to be separated.

After 4 servers and seeing many great and friendly guilds on them falling appart. I highly dissagree.
What OP fails to realize is that much of the annoying, immature chat he is seeing comes from people older than 18, so the idea of an adult server really wouldn't solve anything.
I play EVE, a game the definitely isn't full of younger players, but as anyone will tell you, we have no shortage of immaturity in game or the chat channels.
In fact, in most games I find the 20 somethings to be the most annoying. They are most likely to be the ones who think they know everything about the game (and life, lol) and feel the need to share it with the rest of us.
They frequently have a "UFC" view of the world and think everything is one giant smackdown.
I don't fear the children, they've caused me lots less trouble in any game. (even when I played WOW)

While i agree there are plenty of people that are 18 + that have a bad attitude . its pretty obvious to me that much of its coming from children in game at the moment . I also play lord of the rings online which does have a generally speaking an adult community and its very rare for someone to call someone else a noob or be obnoxious in globel chat . I found EVE to be ok as well . I would suggest you try going back to WoW for a month and you ll soon change your opinion that its coming mostly from older immature players .

I personally find Trade chat very annoying in cities
but theres an easy fix -- leave the Trade channel
EQ2 fan sites
I really can't support this anymore. I had this mentality for the longest time until I realized that the random people I would add to my friends list and want to group with on a regular basis were in fact teenagers. I've found it's mostly the adults who have all of the immature attitudes and a wannabe elitist nature that tend to try and ruin the game experience for people. /shrug Who knows, maybe it was just the servers I've been playing on.
Firstly i would ask how it is so 'obvious' that the chat is coming from 'children'?? Are you polling ages, are you whispering every spammer, are you checking with their guild mates or is it all a personal perception?
The point that a few have been trying to get across is that age is no measure of maturity and creating an age based 'adult' server does not in any way mean that this sort of issue would be wiped out. If you watch the trade channels it tends to be the same small group of people every time, so even if you only get 5-6 of the less mature 'adults' on your server ,you would be back to square one.
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
OPs profile says 57 but usually this sort of post comes from an 18 year old who thinks 18+ equals mature. For this to work let's be honest it would have to be 25+, not living with mom and dad, bills paid with a degree of some sort. Because statistically only 20% of the population falls under what you would call mature, never going to happen.
Just thinking a foolish idea like this can come to fruition qualifies you as immature......the sooner you can come to grips of your own maturity, the sooner you can learn to deal with irrational behavior in a mature, adult-like manner. This is something I learned well before I became a parent.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
Well the OP is 57.. how mature do you want the players? I dont want to play with a bunch of AOP who have to take a break every 5 mins due to their arthritis or becuase their nurse needs to spong bath them.
jk
Most of the time "mature" players are just out of their time, im 29 and have never had an issue with the WoW community, some people just have no sense of humor dont know what irony, cant understand sarcasum and are easily provoked.
I have more issues with the FPS community, I've lost count of the amount of times I've play L4D and had to endure the countless racist comments about Louis, the "look I'm tongueing/raping Zoe" and the countless "nooobs" spam.
Computer games are to be enjoyed by all ages accept the pros and cons of this or move on.
Competitive or pvp games tend to have worse communities as a whole. One thing that I have found with WoW (played from beta to January of this year) was that it has become much more elitist. I occasionally read the main forums and what I see now is something called gear number checks or some bs like that. It must be relatively new because it wasn't around when I was playing earlier this year. So now people use this score to determine if a player can join their pug for a heroic or whatever. Has WoW really turned into an elitist math game?
I think its amusing you actually think all those rude people are children. They are 20-30 year old males that live with mom, and their idea of hard work is pushing buttons on a keyboard.
edit: I'm not saying all WOW players are like this. Obviously, they aren't. Just the rude, whiney know-it-alls.
Most of the people I used to play with were adults (18+...some in their 30s and 40s)...and >50% of them were extremely rude and selfish. You don't have to be a kid to become obsessed with a game and let it rule your life and behavior.
