I've been looking forward to this game for over a year now and I really CANNOT wait any longer! It's soooo pretty! And it looks like a fun combat system, too! I can't wait to get my hands on it!

From what I've seen the active combat system looks very engaging and I'm looking forward to seeing what else TERA has to offer.

To comment on the video:  *I'm dumb.

Edit:  Looking at the video again the UI really looks horrible and detracts from the amazing graphics of the actual game.  I hope they come up with a better UI.

To comment on the video:  Damn, that boss fight looks like it took a while.  6 minutes and it was still at like 90% health.

I think the big bars shows your health and mana, I don't think you can target in that game.

Yea, you're right. I just realized that and came back to ninja edit my post, but you beat me to it.

    Damn you. ;P

    No worries :P

And yeah and I didn't like the big bars showing your hp and mana hope you can make a simplified smaller one.

The intrest is here, but the game is so far from release it's no point in wasting our time on it. Other than Diablo 3 and Guildwars 2 TERA is the game i'm looking forward the most.

Meanwhile Torchlight has stolen my heart...

Well if they're smart. They would allow you to semi customize your UI just like almost all MMO now, WoW is one game where you have 100% freedom over UI customization. I remember people made a BOT using WoW UI scripting LOL

While I appreciate the combat, the game just looks too "Korean" to me. There is only so many identical characters I can handle on the screen at the same time before I overload.

Based on that video alone. The UI sucks and the sound effects need to go. Gameplay looking boring too, didn't really seem like much of a challenge just a long fight.

The only thing I liked about it was the Boss graphics/animation.

Also, if you are going to hype an mmorpg game these days, you better show a heck of a lot more than just the token battle system. Needs to have more to grab people away from tried and proven games that already have that.

This guy probably goes and rave about DF Online after posting this =/... please show us a MMO that has it all graphics, no targeting system, smooth gameplay, best UI you've seen, best sound and music, etc etc etc. you bash a game and say others are better but you show no proof :(

Well just remembered the anime "Towards the Tera" and tera means earth...is this game something to do with that? anyway looking forwad to this game.... never tried it before...

  • nate1980nate1980 Member UncommonPosts: 2,074

Well, that looked fairly boring to me, but the animations weren't bad. So you have this big ass dude, whose finger is bigger than you are, and he takes a swipe at you and you don't go flying? The fight wasn't exciting, because other than looks, nothing reacted the way things should in that circumstance. You didn't feel the impact when the players made attacks or when the beast made attacks. You heard sounds, but the sounds didn't match what happened on the screen. You hear a whack, but no one is flying across the screen, no blood is splattering, and so on. Just boring. I've had enough of these types of boring games, haven't you?

The only games that garner hype is when they are developed by well known developers. In our hemisphere you will see a lot of Blizzard hype,Electronic Arts,EPIC games ect ect.

Although TERA does not look popular here you can rest assured it will be popular in Korea, although most games are popular there lol.

Korean games also have a stereotype attached to them and rightfully so,ALL their games have VERY similar features.

I can touch on a few that you will see in all their games. They usually have one character that has an extreme forward lean, runs as if it is almost falling over frontwards. They make buildings static, usually most of the buildings cannot be entered and have no doorways.Player sounds usually all sound the same, that familiar "Hiyaaa" sound is in all their games. They tend to go for over sized armor and weapons and  usually everything has a GOTHIC/SPIKE look to it.

Their animations are usually done too fast,a sort of unrealistic look to them. The combat design is usually also done too fast, like killing mobs in super fast succession. The reason for their design is it tends to follow the old style arcade games, this is something they seem to enjoy, that HYPER attitude towards gaming.Over here we tend to want a little more relaxed feel to MMORPG gaming.

What TERA is doing is showing me  that they are leaning towards longer fights, this is the type of combat i enjoy. However longer combat is only as good as it's design,i watched a video of an archer taking on like 10-12 mobs at once, unless that archer was many levels over the mobs, that does not show me a very intuitive design, but i will have to wait and try it out.

So far from the videos ,it looks to me like the creative combat comes from boss fights only,in other solo videos it looks like players spam 2 spells, the longer delay one and the very fast one,not very creative combat like that. However i have not played one minute of this game,so i will have to  withhold judgment on how creative the combat system is,when i play it.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Actually, DF Online is one game I have yet to play. Anyway, don't get all bent out of shape because I specifically stated "BASED ON THAT VIDEO ALONE". Which means I based my opinion on the video not the game. Although, what I tend to see is marketing that advertises games using these types of videos.

Let me be more specific about the sound: Hearing the grunts from the male and female characters every second and each sound exactly the same, no difference in tone, or length, to me, is just dowright horrible. Reminds me of MANY eastern grinders and bad fighting movies.

When I am shown more on this game then just a bunch of characters running in circles around a big creature, grunting over and over, then I will be glad to give a more detailed opinion/comparison.

Okay fair, but you still haven't given me a link or name of MMO that has all of those things you've listed. You've most likely haven't played any MMO you listed in your signature because I have played all of them (especially WOW from beta to now) and whenever you get hit.. each race have about 2-3 different grunt in every single one of those games. Well I guess I just want to play a fast pace fps style MMO, and others just hold out for a perfect mmo which has everything (something that will never happen WoW is as close as you're ever going to get)

What things did I list? I just said what this video was lacking. Sure, no MMO is perfect, but WoW, EQ2, LOTRO, and FFXI have everything I like in a game. And those grunts you are talking about are different, and they aren't every second on every single attack from your character.

I get it, you are really hyped about this game. that's fine. But you did ask the question in your OP as to why no one else is hyping the game, and I'm just giving you my reason/opinion based on the video you provided.
