Open Beta not open to everyone!!!

WoW I can't believe this. There will be a limit on the amount of open beta slots mandated by blizzard. Its like blizz wants everyone to pay fileplanet in order to gaurntee a position in Open
-Weak-

"Will there be a limit to the number of people who can play the World of Warcraft open beta?
Yes, we will have to limit the number of players. However, a maximum number of players has not yet been determined. At this time, we simply recommend that if you wish to play in the open beta that you download the game and create an account as soon as the open beta is ready. Once we fill our servers to capacity, we will remove the World of Warcraft downloader and account-creation pages."

It's like an exact mirror image of a post made when the first stress test came out. You will get in, I promise. Unless you wait until the very very very VERY last day of the signups. Then maybe you will have a problem.
And you're right. Not everyone is getting in. Only U.S. citizens Canadian citizens. Sorry if you're not.

Having open beta "Signups" goes against the whole idea of an open beta anyways. You should be able to sign up at any time during the OB and start playing immediately, there shouldnt be a 2 day (or however long) signup period and then thats it... its not gonna be a very open open beta but thats probably due to server limitations at the moment... they probably havnt even got the servers they will use for retail yet.

You could always go an complain to Blizzard. Oh wait...I forgot that most people who think the way you're thinking also think that Blizzard has the poorest customer service and make a lot of mistakes when dealing with their fans. Oh well, I guess you're out in the cold along with your complaints then.

Hey? a LOT of people got in the original Stress test.

IMO there will be even more in the second Stress test.

and IMO there will be EVEN MORE in the open beta, so IMO you shouldn't be worried about missing your spot.

I seem to remember with the last stress test that was held for WOW that they allowed non paying accounts into the test. I also remember that those that had applied ages ago were sent out emails allowing them to enter the game as well.

I can see the arguement that WOW is not going to be a true open beta. Unlike other games that have open beta's WOW has such a huge fan base that I doubt they could handle the numbers.

So it does look to be true that this is not really an open beta, but I know that last time around all my friends who were paying attention got in just fine. Only the ones sleeping did not seem to make it.

The one thing that is interesting to me though is on Fileplanets website. They are saying that their subscribers get to play in open beta one week early. So evidently more people will be added next week from somewhere else. Maybe I am missing where that signup is located.

    open beta faq

"Do I need to go through FilePlanet to get into the open beta?
FilePlanet does indeed have a role in hosting the open beta, and it has a number of open beta accounts to award. However, the majority of open beta accounts will be distributed by Blizzard directly. Once FilePlanet’s accounts are given away, all further accounts will be awarded only through Blizzard. So, if you visit FilePlanet and are told that no more open beta accounts are available there, please go to www.worldofwarcraft.com to secure your open beta slot.

Do I have to be a FilePlanet subscriber to sign up for the open beta at FilePlanet?
No. Anyone with an Internet connection in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States can visit FilePlanet or Blizzard on the day the open beta begins to try to acquire an open beta account. Please note that FilePlanet has a number of open beta accounts to award, but if it exhausts its allotment of keys, you will still be able to visit www.worldofwarcraft.com for a chance to join the open beta. "

ps: the beta client is about 2.5GB so.. through a 56k dial-up connection that is about a 173 hr download (about SEVEN days!!) AND about 25 days if you use the forced blizzard downloader.

You guys need to start reading the Blizzard announcements and stop jumping to conclusions. It clearly says on the Blizzard home page that the Final Stress Test and Open beta are completely different just like bhug stated in his link.

Please note that a subscription to FilePlanet is required in order to join the final stress test. For those who wish to wait until the free open beta starts to join in, we will be releasing information about signups for that in the week ahead. The exact duration of the final stress test has not yet been determined; however, the free open beta test will begin shortly after the final stress test is brought to a close. Please stay tuned to WorldofWarcraft.com for more information.

So we'll hear more news on the true open beta fairly shortly..

With the WOW website having been down yesteday I did not see the information in which Blizzard states that open beta will be open to everyone.

The link is here for those who want to see it on Blizzards site:

So I do stand corrected image

    You cant read it seems!

Read between the lines...Blizzard is working in conjunction with FP to cover the cost of the bandwidth for the downloads for the stress test. It's an incentive to subscribers. And if you DID read more then you would know that OB will be open to EVERYONE and once they reach the peak of the population they want, they will close the apps. Stress Test is NOT OB. Go read before you open your yap!

Why do you doubt they could handle the numbers?  That is not the case at all.  If they couldn't handle the numbers, then the game isn't ready yet.  Think about it.  All of those fans are going to be playing retail.  So if they can't handle those numbers in the open beta, how will they be able to handle the number of people when they go retail soon after?

Here's the thing... they're in bed with FilePlanet.  Blizzard is probably getting kickbacks from the subscriptions, or they got some cash up front.  Regardless, a perceived shortage is certain to drive up the sales of the fileplanet subs.  People will think... "Hmmm, I am not guaranteed a spot in the open beta unless I sign up on fileplanet.  Guess I'll go sign up."

In reality, it is a closed beta test with more people in it.  And it is only closed for the sake of fileplanet's subscriptions.

Actually, you couldn't be more wrong.  If Blizzard allows everyone to enter the Open Beta there will be a much larger population playing in the OB then there will when the game goes retail.  Your assuming that everyone that would join the OB will be willing to pay to play the game.  That's a very poor assumption indeed.

I already know a few people who will play in OB but don't intend to buy the game. If it is anything like Lineage II OB, the population size will fall drastically once the game goes retail.

I also noticed that the Stress Test (and probably OB) is not only open to North America, but also to Australia and New Zealand.

Please to be keeping your rational explanations to yourself, as they get in the way of our conspiracy theories.

Clearly Blizzard is not only taking kickbacks from Fileplanet, but there are documents that point to them being the third shooter in the Kennedy assassination. They are currently funding a rebellion in a heretofore unnamed third world country, paid for with money from drugs sold to children, and Danish porn rings.

They also kicked my dog, and pushed my grandmother down the stairs.
