Old vet..lost without an MMO to play

After wandering from game to game since the NGE destroyed my favorite game of all time...reluctantly, I'm thinking about returning to see what things are like. I played on the intrepid server(which I think is closed down)....will I be able to retrieve my old characters(4 accounts)  transfer those and play on one of the current surviving servers?

I'm just really frustrated with many of the current MMORPG's out there and cant find anything that sparks my interest like Pre NGE/CU did.

Games that I've tried since...

WoW, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, EVE, Warhammer, CoX, Champions online, PoTBS, Age of Conan, Fallen Earth....all of which are(were) decent games but have failed to keep me occupied/entertained like SWG once did.

I would rather not have to start from scratch again..but at this point at least it may be mildly entertaining and at least I get to hear some Star wars music in the background once again, lol.

I feel the same way... I played several of those games you mentioned. Some were good. Some were not. But none of them were as good as SWG once was. Although I played the NGE for for the first two days, and never played since, my brother has played on and off since then, and neither of us have been impressed or happy.

I think there's thousands if not tens or hundreds of thousands of players out there still looking for their SWG Pre-NGE/CU replacement.... so why doesn't someone make one. (Note: I don't believe most of those people would care if it had anything to do with Star Wars. I think it had far more to do with how the whole thing felt... and those feelings were driven by gameplay and concepts.)

Sadly, I'm not sure you'll ever find it. I feel the same about EQ but I think if I'm honest, it's not the game itself, rather the feelings it invoked. Unfortunately those feelings were mostly down to it being a new genre for a lot of people, as was SWG of course.

I wait and wait and wait but I think it might take something radically different to get that feeling back. Probably away from the mmog format we think of now.

If you did not  take advantage of the free vet trials and transferred your toons during the Free Character Transfer Service while it lasted, then your toons are held hostage on the closed Intrepid server. You will need to resub, contact SWG customer service and pay the $50 ransom  for each toon you want to see transferred. I will spare you from making an expensive mistake by telling you to join the Starsider or Flurry server since they are the most populated (half of the remaining servers left have low populations problems).

I suggest you try a free SWG trial and see how you feel about the game before committing to the expense of resubing 4 accounts and paying for transfers. BTW, you are allowed 2 toons per server or 3 if you had a Jedi before the NGE.

I would say wait for SWTOR like I am. Though, I have a Fallen Earth sub, I don't log in much. At the moment, I am just hopping back and forth between L4D, Killing Floor, and I just installed Battle Forge. BF is a pretty fun game. I haven't played an RTS in a while, not since the LoTRs RTS game.

I'm also waiting on The Secret World.

swg pre-cu was the work of genius - bugs notwithstanding.

the rest of the games were either good, bad or tollerable.; but all ordinary in their ways.

Yeah I know what you mean about the star wars music its brings back memories.. man those were really fun times. One of my favorite was me and couple of Friends were on naboo and we got attacked by this crazy chicken. We were having the time of our life while getting beat up it cant get better then that! but all good things must come to an end :-*(

The problem is even if they give us Pre CU back now it'll be a 2003 game in 2009 or 10 by the time it would happen and frigging it wouldn't be the same. Just be a 7 year old game with dated graphics and UI and everything else. I remember in 2003 logging in and thinking it looked so life like and that was AMAZING but now I'd login and see how old it looks.

Though I look at pictures like this and my nostalgic eyes still tell me they're life like lol.

I never thought the graphics looked that bad. In fact, I think they were way ahead of their time. Although it's not Vanguard, or AoC... It's still better than WoW IMO.

Ok... Better than Wow is a stretch. But i still prefer SWG graphics to WoW just because WoW is too cartoony for me. The reality is WoW's graphics are at least as good as or better than SWG, but they have a very different feel between the two.

And for the record. I play WoW now... I haven't played SWG since Nov. '05

If you are looking for something different, why don't you give Darkfall a shot.  It's a huge beautifully hand crafted world with meaningfull pvp (ffa full loot).  A highly anticipated free expansion should happen any day now.

    No, no he shouldn't.

The company that runs it is worse than SOE, if that is possible, it is still loaded with bugs, and hacks and bots, and EXCEPT for PvP, there isn't anything to do. Darkfall is about at far from pre-cu SWG as is possible to get. And on top of that, where the great community was one of the greatest strengths of pre-cu SWG, the anti-community of DF is one of the worst aspects, beyond the failings that the game itself has (and there are many).

And even with the so called free expansion, DF is STILL missing more than 50% of the features that were (and still are) advertised on the site and the game was missing upon launch.

you obviously haven't played it since release,  there are nearly zero to a few bots, and i have never met a hacker in the game. and there are loads of things to do beside pvp, alot of people are crafters, traders, gatherers, some don't even like to pvp and find satisfaction in trading for example, trading generates cash -> more cash for the clan, this can make a clan more powerfull. Darkfall has its politics and darkfall clans also need traders and crafters, its not only fighting...  and bugs, lol? you mustve only played darkfall on its release date...

I thought for a long time that ST:O might be the replacement for SWG, for me at least.  Then, Cryptic, pulled an SOE with the CO subs and closed beta deal.  All for the Atari 20 mil sales bonus.

Looking at the resumes of the Cryptic principals, I find that the CEO of Cryptic is SOE trained and approved.  It seems Smed's influence is bombing another gaming company.

I doubt if I'll trade my money for yet another round of get rich quick ideas coming from the top.

Yeah I havent found my golden game ever since they shitted swg up with the nge.

No other game gave me what I really wanted before or since

Even if I can enjoy a game for a while, it never sparks that warm chocolaty goodness that SWG gave me :(

Unofrtuneatley any game even SWG now will never be as good as SWG was before the NGE, so many of us are lost without it, and I have tried I think every mmo since just trying to find something that can give me the old feeling I had..

EDIT: I play darkfall now, and while it has kept my attention for quite awhile it still isnt anything compared to old SWG, Im currently waiting on STO and secret world.

The true sad thing is nothing will ever be as good as SWG Pre-CU was. For a game that SOE just shot down thinking they would make tons of money going after the WoW Market, the Pre-CU is just now one of the most spoken about games ever made.

Really I've tried alot of games and the only one so far to hold me is EVE.
