New player, trying to pick a class

KierstenKiersten Member Posts: 23

I just picked up the trial for eq2 to try it out.  And i'm having trouble trying to decide what class to play.  I almost always play a caster, and I usually prefer a class with runspeed to get from A to B faster.

But given that most of eq2 is now solo play with a little bit of group play mixed in.  I find myself worried that a druid or bard won't be able to solo as well as say a Conjurer or a Monk.  Are there any class types that solo significantly better than others?

I do enjoy being able to solo kill the occasional named I might find while wondering around for a chance at some random loot.  I assume that this game follows the same basic principals with rare named being a bit harder to take down.

Kind of leaning toward the monk, druids, enchanters, or a conjuror at this point.  Not sure how well each of those fits my needs though.

For solo purpose Monk/Bruiser and Necro/Conj are good but you will probably have a hard time finding a group ever with those classes. Enchanters (Illusionist/Coercer) and Bards are generally wanted for groups and Enchanters can solo pretty good, bards not so good. Druids are ok solo and gets groups.

Shadowknight is great class for new players. if you don't know what that is it's evil paladin pretty much. has mix of strong melee and spells. your spells give disease and rot and heal you in return least some spells do. plus you get unholy steed to travel on at lv 20.

I have a lvl 78 Monk and it's a good solo class. I didn't die much levelling since you can always use Feign Death. It's a good solid class. I think the best solo class though is Necromancer.

PVP or PVE server? If PVE a Necro is da bomb for soloing, I soloed a Necro to 80 on Everfrost.

If PVP a Warden or Wizard are pretty good solo classes, soled my Warden to 78 at the moment and my Wizard is 71 also solo play. Warden gets big time speed buffs, with AAs I run at 70% and can get from A to B pretty well.

Enjoy the game, it is actually a lot of fun once you get into it.

    Good Luck
