What game to try next?

KanaxaiKanaxai Member UncommonPosts: 120

I have played MMO's for about 8 years of my life now, starting all the way back to Runescape Classic, and moving onto others such as GW, WoW, Runescape 2, UO, and even EVE. But now, with a bit of extra cash, I'm looking for a new game to try out. I have yet to try WAR, Darkfall, Aion, AoC, and pretty much everything else not listed here.

I really like PVE and PVP both equally, and I enjoy the levelling experience. I also like an immersive storyline, but it really isn't necessary. I'm sorry this is so broad, but I'm really open to a lot of games, just trying to narrow down my choices.

Thanks!

I personally think Aion would be a good choice for you, but Lotro or fallen earth are also good games you might enjoy.

I know Dragon Age isnt a MMO but since you seem to know MMO's pretty well, I suggest you pick up Dragon Ag enjoy it for a little bit and keep coming to MMORPG.com. You will end up happier finding a MMO over time that you are interested in rather then being told a MMO to play.

Try Darkfall.  Its not your average EQ clone.  If you like storyline immersion, wait for Star Wars TOR.

I would recommend LotRO, EQ2, or Vanguard .. for the PvE side of things.. If you like PvP equally, yet don't mind themepark style, Aion may actually be perfect for you.  Aion is a great game, but the themepark style grinds on me after a while.   That's just me though.

Aion has some amazing PvP.. I really love slipping through a rift and catching the Elyos offguard while they're harvesting or killing a mob.. *evil laugh* .. With a good rift location, I get 6 to 10 kills a day (and that's only playing 1 or 2 hours a day).  If that sounds fun, look into Aion.

As far as PvE goes, I stand by my recommendations above.  All 3 are great games with their own specific style.   A little research (and a trial) will tell you what's right for you.

Best of luck.. I hope your first choice is your personal "right" choice.

You should seriously check out Mortal Online. It's very UO inspiered and made by people loving UO and really think that the latest MMOs have lost something that games like EQ1 and UO had.

It's FPV-only (and it's really well done), no instances, no minimap, seamless world, skill based, taiming, build own house almost wherever you want (no instanced), no handholding, beta is going on now and the game will be released around new year. You can preorder if you want and start playing already today. Every second week they now patch in alot of new content and feats.

What I heard from a friend playing it ... great crafting and combat. High mountains you can climb in a seamless world. The characters and animations look much better than in DF.

And, as one of the downsides (of many).... They have big flopping man junk. It is a horrible "first experience" when you go to create your character, and you get to look at his hairy nasty bits... Then you go to character select to log him in, and he is sitting all naked on a pier... Quite the disturbing experience.

  • Wait for Guild Wars 2? It sounds like it is something you would like.

I think he wants something now, not in 2011.

If you like PVP go Aion or Guild Wars 1. If you enjoy PVE go LOTRO or AoC.

If you like a good mix of both I would say either GWs or Aion. GWs is free though and alot of fun. You've got a tough decision to make...lol

Personally I would recommend Aion if you have the cash to spare.  I've been playing since BETA and I'm still enjoying the game.

Since WAR and DDO are both now free to play, there is no harm in trying them out.

I would even suggest trying Runes of Magic.  It is classicly F2P, however it offers an experience I'd expect from the P2P industry, again as it's free there is no harm in trying it out.  I probably play this game more than Aion at the moment as I have found such a friendly, active and helpful guild.

I know Cash-Shop games annoy a lot of people, however in RoM you cannot 'Buy Victory'.  You always need to party most of the time when it comes to quests and instances.

If you want something COMPLETELY different, I also have La Tale installed which I enjoy a run around on from time to time, however it isn't everyones cup of tea, being a 2D side scrolling MMO.

Purely some suggestions for you. :)

don't listen to the aion fanbois the game is terrible. Honestly just google the game and you'll see all the realistic reviews. IMO if you REALLY want to get a new mmo right now try age of conan. I don't even play the game, but i know when it first came out it had a lot of potential, i'm just still bitter that they released a game that should of been held off for another year.

But in reality most mmos out right now are just shitty in comparison to WoW, if you're bored of WoW like most of us i'd just save your money until spring next year, there are lots of incomming mmos that look decent and different. (just look at the mmorpg homepage and see "most anticipated games" there will be a lot to choose from.

I'm currently playing Call of Duty MOD 2 for ps3 and loving it.

Just an fyi I haven't played WoW for 7 months, i've played WAR, AoC, Aion, Fallen Earth, Lotro in my search for a new mmo to replace WoW. I haven't been able to play any of those games past the first free month, and imo Aion was the worst of all of them ( i made it to level 40 also).
