PVP towers in january?

I've been asking about this since this game released, it was really the only reason I wanted to to play AoC; well besides the tits =P. Anyway I read in a thread pvp towers are actually coming to aoc in January, but can find no info on this, is this true?

We are currently working on three separate live updates at the same time. There is an update imminent for the Conquerors (should hopefully be on the test servers very soon! )then we have a more significant update with the new Iron Tower level 80 instance and then beyond that the 1.06 update itself that includes the features revealed last month in the shape of Guild renown, the Tower PVP system, House of Crom and the tier three raids. The 1.06 update will be deployed to the test servers once we are done with the 1.05.x updates and Iron Tower is released. It is a significant update and I do expect that it will need some time on the test server, in particular as we want to test the rate and progression of the new Guild renown systems and will be enlisting your help there!

    forums-eu.ageofconan.com/showthread.php

This week the production team have had a bit of a split focus, with some of the code team still working on a small update to resolve the last remaining server issue we mentioned last week (alongside a couple of minor tweaks for the live servers) and then we are also preparing the next major version for the test servers. Internal testing of the 1.06 update is now well underway and we are getting closer to being in good shape for deploying to the test servers. There is an outside chance we may have a version late next week that would be considered for the test server, but the work to ensure that the server issue is resolved first is holding us back there just a little. Therefore we will most likely have to do that last smaller update in the 1.05.x series before moving onto the 1.06 preparations fully. As we mentioned last week though it is essential we address any performance issue on the server side of things regardless of how infrequently it will likely affect any given individual player.

    In conclusion :

I expect them to come up with one more 1.05 patch (the current game is still bugged as hell) hopefully this coming week.

Then, they will put 1.06 up on Test Liver server. How long it will stay on TL is hard to guess, but I would imagine it's at least 2 weeks, probably considerably more.

I guess it depends if they release it on live before or after the christmas hollidays. Because if they do it before, and for the same reason they never release a patch on Fridays, they need some time to make sure it's ok before they can go on holliday themselves ^^

So January seems like a reasonable estimation, and if it's earlier, then it will be a welcome suprise

By the way, the game is very laggy at the moment, sieges are worse than ever. People are extremely frustrated now, and pessimistic about the how these pvp towers are going to work out, judging from past and present experiences.

Yep I think that the towers will come January too. Probably the last part of the 1.06 update.

I think that we will see a portion of 1.06 with a 65/35% chance of happening right before Xmas to live servers the rest should come in January.

I am happy with that approach. Last year we had some little bits to play with right before xmas on test which was fun.

I would think the T3 raids would take the most testing though.

It is nice to see in this weeks update that they are committed to the server issues.

As long as its stable when its released, Im willing to wait. Last thing I want them to do is rush out content thats not fully ready just to appease those who are impatient.

Is there a link to how guild renown will work? Im wondering if it will be similar to WAR or something different all together.

  • Every city or village in the game is a ghost town anyway, but maybe that will bring some life back. The PvP in Age of Conan is alright if it not laggy or buggy (and it is most of the time.I quit due to lack of endgame content. There was nothing to do.

Interesting, if it's anything like the tower system funcom had in AO, it's going to be really really good. Who knows though. Still kind of sad to this feature that was repeatedly sold as a launch feature only getting put in game almost two years after launch. But w/e I am just bitter =). Thanks for the info gents. I hope this turns out well, I might resub for a while if it does.

I'm betting many will come back for this patch to try it out.

Until then, the server I'm on (Fury, once the most populated server in EU) is pretty much dead.

There is some fighting in tortrage at peek hours, also in keshatta.

Level 80 minigames relatively regularly, but apart from that, leveling my POM has been an extremely lonely experience.

All saturday, i played, taking advantage of the double xp pot, through Eglophian Mountains and Ymir's Pass. I must have met 3 or 4 guys MAX in the zones. I was also signed up to minigames since 9 am and by 17h, had got ONE game in.

I did notice an increase in newbie questions in global though.

I highly doubt it. Age of Conan was a 2008 buildt and there are new, better and more stable mmo out now.  In additional there are also more hardcore mmo in production like Guild Wars and Lineage 3 and even some casual friendly like star wars the old republic. I know that people wont come back and why should they when there are more fun games out there.

WoW was made in what, 2004? Not sure what being made in 2008 has to do with anything. I currently enjoy the game more than any other mmo out right now and am not interested in either of the games you listed. As for Guild Wars 2, is has no monthly fee, which means I will play that alongside AoC, but thats not even being released till 2011.

Thats my point. And thats why nobody is interested in Age of Conan any more. People enjoy there current mmo right now and dont want to try old games like Age of Conan with a obsolete engine.

I often see the LFG forum with many people bored of their current mmo. Heck even Sir Paco went there and couldn't find anything to switch from AoC too that he liked the look of.

Patch 1.06 with the towers is going to be a great filler until Godslayer comes. There are many people out there who first tried and then left (like yourself who couldn't find the ladder up out the swamp in the crafting village) and many of these people say they will give AoC another go when the expansion comes.

I go back and revisit old games, tried out Vanguard 4 times now. Not that VG is a bad game, just that my particular starting area had 1 other person in it. I see dozens and dozens in AoC. Sure the new games coming look all nice and shiny. But you know there are some people out there who found Aion was not all it was cracked up to be either. There are lots of people coming back to AoC after trying out the "new" batch.

AoC engine works fine for me. That engine delivers the best mmorpg visual experience out there imo.

    I agree completely with Avery...

I originally left AoC not out of boredom or being tired of the game, but went to another MMO to play alongside my girlfriend. We are both avid gamers and during that time we didnt have much free time, which meant what little we had to game together, we wanted to spend playing the same mmo.

After the summer came and time freed up, I bounced between LOTRO to WoW to Aion, and each one left me feeling like I had done all I really wanted to do (except for Aion in which I really just did not want to play anymore) I even went back and tried some UO, my original love and first mmo, but again got bored within a week.

After returning to AoC and playing for a few weeks now, I am really happy to be back. Sure it is a fantasy setting (no elves thank god) with swords and magic, but the whole dark, dreary setting adds a mood that no other mmo has captured. Its graphics are spectacular, and I find myself filling up my new hard drive with countless screen shots as I move into areas I have never seen before.

Its going to be hard for any new mmo to pull me away from this.

This is madness. Lemme teach you how to think a bit.

a.) people are not happy with the current choice of MMO's out there. That was proven 3 times already. AoC, War, Aion - it can be concluded with pretty high probability that most of the AoC record 1,2 million people also own War and Aion copy. This shows that people are actually aware how shitty the current games are.

    - i would agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that at least +- 1 million gamers is desperately looking for a new home. With that fact included AoC expansion has a high chance of becomming big, BUT word of the mouth and reviews has to speak of a superb game.

b.)How come you say that Guild Wars 2 and Lineage 3 will be a big hit? You are wrong my friend. Nothing fresh out can really compete with WoW content. It is huge and I think it is save to say that GW2 will bring in mostly GW players and Lineage 3 will PROBABLY drop right after launch and try to remain alive with fast patching. Noone can release a game with the amount of content WoW has.

People are searching for a new game yes.  It is hard to convince people to support a promising project today. We want everything now and TODAY (actually i want it yesterday) ... have you ever stopped to consider how AWESOME could AoC be by now if it had 500k patient players? Only 500k ... and it would be great. But ... we can't support a game anymore - we want a finished product with perfect class balance, 0 bugs etc. Where would WoW be today if it there was another big budget motherfucker on the market? It would be niche game with lots of unfulfilled promises.

I think it is close to madness for a developer or a gamer to expect that their new MMO will be a big hit. A big hit might be something new in genre ... but is that even possible?

PvP towers in January? Given the retarded development of Funcom and the fact that 1.5 is still being hotfixed, the answer is no. Because that would also mean that tier 3 will be released in January (1.6 = pvp towers plus tier 3), and that is, of course, complete lunacy. I'm not sure what exactly is more complex to implement or test - pvp towers or tier 3. Either way, at least two months of testing is necessary for both of these features, especially whether Thoth-Amon's Stronghold contains more than 10 bosses or not.

Oh, and the next hallmark of MMO development will be SW:TOR. It'll be a perfect contradiction - a single-player MMO.

Has there been any info at all on how the mechanics behind the pvp towers will work? I say this again, but if it like what Funcom did with towers in Anarchy Online, I will most certainly resub to AoC. So any info at all?

    EDIT-

When does this expac come out?

  • SirPacoSirPaco Member UncommonPosts: 358

the expansion is due to come out on the "first half of 2010" which probably means 30/05/2010

I honestly cannot see this content coming out in January. With all the bugs introduced in the latest round of patches there is much more prudent things Funcom needs to be worrying about, primarily game stability. I've always been a proponent of the game but it's getting ridiculous. Three days ago I crashed as the screen faded in to load the game and yesterday before I saw anything. Logged in, saw the bar fill up than BAM system crash. I've always been pretty patient with my games, MMO's especially because I understand they are a huge undertaking and hard to test properly. However, if this new content gets released and we are still experiencing server crashes and regular system crashes than I will personally will be upset. I can't make it through a raid without crashing making them unplayable for me. It sucks to be fighting Chatha, swinging my sword wildly and making fire reign down to suddenly and jarringly be greeted by a black screen. I understand I'm likely a more extreme case but it's making the game extremely frustrating for me and taking most of the enjoyment out.  I seriously hope they fix these issues before releasing new content.

That said I'm excited about the new content. Hopefully it well get Legion in Flames (biggest dueling guild on Cimmeria) out of their Kesh RP event where they are grouped attacking everyone. Fun event and all but it's nice to have to sneak around when you're trying to get to a raid.
