    No.

I wish I had back the 3 years of my life I wasted on this game.  Though I'm long over the game (and the drama it creates).

Knowing everything you know about World of Warcraft up to this point (expansions, past-patches, nerfs, buffs ... everything), going back 5 years, would you even bother buying this game?
I think we can all agree that WoW is a huge time-sink and pretty addictive, but have these past 5 years been worth it? I see a lot of threads about how people believe everything past the Burning Crusade pretty much ruined the game. What are your thoughts?
This thread is in no way meant to be a flame against the game. I love WoW; I've played it off and on for 5 years. I'm just curious as to what other people think.

    Hi.

Easy question, easy answer (see my just written post). No, I would not play! All the time I have wasted in raids, farming emblems. Just to go from T5 to start all over to go to T6, to start all over to go to T7 and so on and so on - is gone. If I imagine, I would have put this time into a second job, I would now have my dream fulfilled and had a 911 Porsche in my garage, instead of that VW.

    Regards

.... OR you would be dead. Killed in a car accident with that Porsche or laid over by a giant Black Widow. :))) in view of your "character's strength and stamina".

Odd when people blame .... a game for their failures in life.

That simply means it must be a HELL of a game. :))))

Or possibly just a HELL of a waste of time, as all games really come down to.  Some just bigger wastes than others.

Hell .. WOTLK makes wow a lot better .. a lot more accessible for people who don't want to follow a raid schedule like work. I am all for it. With the new random grp matcher, wow is going to be BETTER in 3.3.

So with your new found wisdom from 5 years of gaming, have you now quit gaming and taken up a second job?  You know, so you don't waste the next 5 in pursuit of your dream porche?

I started wow, 3 months after it came out in europe.

I'm not sure if I would have bought it 5 years ago if I would knew what I would know now... I wasted a lot of time for this game

(but I also had a lot of fun!) Let's say I won't and I would have spend more time on going out :p

I played it of and on over the past 5 years, and I'm still playing it.

I'm not sush a hardcore gamer, but sometimes i feel wow starts to swallow me...

and on that point I know I have to quit soon because otherwise i would get addicted.. (It alrdy is an addiction for 5 years..)

Like now, I feel that I play to mush.. so i need to slow down again, and for me that means I won't sub again when I used up my prepaid time. And when I quit I never know when I come back, Maby I will never come back after this stop...

    waiting for ... nothing..

    Well played bloober.

  • htiger23htiger23 Member Posts: 113

I have been subscribed to WoW for roughly 3.5 of the 5.0 years it has been available.  My subscription started in November of 2004, and, even with a few breaks in between, it is still open today.

I really enjoy most of the changes to the game.  Where most people see Blizzard as catering to the casuals, I see it more as catering to everyone.  I don't know about others, but I loved raiding in Vanilla, but I hated the amount of time that I had to farm mats outside the raid.  One of the best changes to the game was to minimize the tedious/mindnumbing preparations that went into raiding.  No one wanted to farm 30 potions, 2-4 flasks, various food buffs, random things like whipper root tubers, etc for a single night of raiding.

Also, on a similar note, Blizzard's changes to raids to allow everyone and their mouth breathing cousins faceroll raids was one of the best business decisions that they have ever made.  Even though the hardcore "E-Peen" factor was reduced due to the "Up and Coming" casuals, Blizzard hit a whole new note with casuals that could now raid a couple nights/days per week.  From the business standpoint, it made no sense at all to create content that only 2% of the playerbase would ever see.  If this were a "pay as you go" type of system, it could have made sense, but , from a technical standpoint, the "hardcore players" cost much more money than the casual players since they eat up more server load/time.

Again, I think Blizzard has masterfully crafted a great game.  They have had hiccups along the way, and they probably will still have many more, but it is the only game that has ever captivated me enough to stay subscribed for more than a few months.

I played WoW from the last beta of vanilla up until just about a month ago, and while I did play several other games alongside of WoW, I never really "left" WoW until about a month ago.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in WoW. I will likely return to play a goblin with Cataclysm. However...I have learned over the course of my gaming years (from Atari until today), that I am not MARRIED to any game or game developer. I play when I WANT to play.  It's a hobby...not a job or even a marriage.  I play until it's not FUN for me to play anymore. I am not OBLIGATED to return or to swear loyalty to any company I am paying for entertainment, and that goes for Netflix, Comcast, Blizzard, Turbine, SoE....whomever. They earn the money I pay them, in my eyes, or I have no problem going on and doing something else.

For me, WoW was worth playing. I certainly don't regret playing it.  But I also don't feel obliged to continue playing a game when I get tired of playing it.  Afterall....I don't serve the game. The game serves ME. Right now, I'm enjoying EQ2 again. I will continue playing it until I don't enjoy it, or...I will sub to another game in addition to it, like I did with WoW, EVE, LotRO, and others. Like I said, I'm not married to one game, and if I want to "play around" with other games.....there's nothing to stop me. I've even been "guilty" of having "affairs" with single player RPGs.  O.O  I'm just brazen that way.

So...long live Blizzard, and SoE, and Turbine, and CCP, and Troika for Vampires (oh wait....Troika is dead....darn), and every other gaming company that has, at some point, entertained me with their work.

Vanilla WoW never did anything for me.   I so disliked it.   I had an account that I played that first month of release - then it set and collected dust.    It wasn't until BC that I started playing WoW and then I wasn't playing it day in and day out and still am not.   I can only take so much of the game in small doses.    It burns me out to fast    My friends always ask come raid with us, lets go do the NAXX or let's run HC's.    I'm like...ugh...if I do another raid or run the same HC one more time I think I am going to puke.    Game is so stinking repetitive and you kill the same MoB's day in and day out.    I never have found it addicting as some people did.

Well I still miss UO. But WoW fills that entertainment whole for it. My wife and I don't and wouldn't change a thing and probably do it again. We are looking forward to Cataclysm. But if I had known my Oldest kido would destroy his life for WoW. I would've never brought it home and stayed on UO. But WoW is a great game for my whole family plays it instead of gambling in casino's lol.

    Thanx Midevl.
