 So is it still worth it to jump into the game now, or would it take too long to catch up with the 4-5 year old players?

 can be worth it, and if you invest some time you can definetly catch up

Nope, you can catch up withing a week if you have a lvl 80 char ... if you have a lvl 60, you need to get to 80, so however long for you will take to 80 then if you lucky and hit up a good guild or group, you can get super duper equipment really really fast (as fast as a week maybe 2-3)

Got no level 60ies, only tried the trial a long time ago and have most of my knowledge about the game from friends playing it.

 

But 2-3 weeks doesn't sound too bad. ;>

Its up to you - I'd suggest you to take your sweet time to enjoy the game. People view it as a job, not a game to enjoy to rush through content to 80 to get epic gears and whatnot. I personally find that stupid. I've been in the game over 3 years and I haven't gotten everything I need/want. People got bored with the game so fast because they rushed through it and "I" am still enjoying myself. lol. Don't take peoples advice to get there "super fast"

I would say your goal should be to have fun with the game so whatever that is do it.  Now with that said if you like the idea of raiding and are a gear hog well then it will be a time sink.   WOW is an mmorpg ... what do you expect ?  Have you not heard of WOW addiction ?
