What if people would try to create more RPGs with online features.

Basically, MMORPG mechanics don't stand up to RPG mechanics.

But what if someone would create a RPG that allows you to experience the full glory of playing this type of game in an offline environment while being able to host servers for online dungeon crawling, world exploring and even PvP, using your offline server.

Diablo 2 tried this and it succeeded , in my opinion. Now what I'd like to see is a Bethesda-style RPG doing the same thing. It doesn't have to be anything large-scale, 5 Co-op dungeon crawling or 6v6 PvP battles would be plain fun. And then, you could get rewards that you wouldn't normally get in the offline game.

I imagine it would succeed. Not only for people who expect money from this game, but also for gamers. If done right, you'll be able to enjoy a great RPG while still being able to play in that RPG's world with your friends, without being forced to enjoy subpar MMORPG gameplay/grind until you can finally have some fun.

Sounds a little bit like Guild Wars. But I agree, I think far too many RPG games completely ignore the possibility of having some (not massively) multiplayer options.

I didn't realize we needed developers OK to RP and put in useless features like player housing and fancy stupid UI buttons.

Want RP, play some D&D or at least use your imagination.

Let me paint a picture for you.

When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?

The masses won't be happy until a developer invents an mmo containing every feature from every game with different servers to choose from based on play style.  Hence they will never be happy.  I'd like to play games like dragon age online /shrug.
