Grouping with friends if we're different races?

A couple of friends and I are wanting to try out FF11 again, but I can't seem to find info on one thing; how hard is it to meet up if we want to be different races? I seem to remember starting in different locations and that it takes a while to meet up with different races. Any other info for newbs is appreciated, I remember the community being very friendly  Thanks!

Actually, if you only care about races, you should be able to start in the same area since you choose race and nationality independently you should have zero problems if you all choose the same nation as it'll start you in the same areas. otherwise, it'll be a tough but manageable trip considering the easiest way (the ferry) is located in an area with level 20 monsters surrounding it
