Xbox or PS3 for console MMORPG's?

I am currently stuck at a crossroad....

My brothers want me to invest in a console, one prefers XBOX, the other PS3.

I personally dont like single player games and love MMO's or multiplayer games such as BF2.

As far as I can tell both consoles offer online gaming.

Could anyone let me know which offers the best online gaming experience?

I am also very interested to know if they have or will be releasing MMORPG games on either of the consoles - has anyone heard anything?

If you have to use a console for MMO's - there arent that many tbh, then XBOX, i dont like them personally, but i like the PS3 even less, and with Sony's financial status something of a quagmire its probably the most likely to be around long term. personally, i'd choose the wii, not for online games so much, i've got a decent pc so i dont need another machine to play online with - its higher spec than any current console

but because the wii is a 'fun' kind of console, and doesnt try to be anything except what it is

If you are going to play an MMO stay with your trusty Computer but if you have to consider a console , I would hate to say knowing my adverse relationship but I would chose the PS3 over the Xbox. SOEs MMOs that are due out soon will be on both PC and PS3
and the recent change to the slim model with 120gig HD for 299.00 is a good choice knowing that its is a Bluray player as well.

But recently in Sept , there was a required firmware update for the PS3 that caused problems for thousands of users. I speak about it on this months Rodo Report. But the xbox has more problems with longer waits for returned repairs. Consoles are what they are ..and as far as MMOS go its going to get a little getting use to compared to the experiences most of us have had on PCs.

    Good Luck in your choice

I dont own nor play on a console for any games... my wife likes them.

But  the PS3 is way way more powerful then the 360. If there are mmos to be played on both id go with ps3 for this reason alone.

Microsoft built a system that can be replaced after a few years to cash in on it, ps3 was built to last much much longer hence the tech that was included in it. It was revolutionary and still is in comparison to anything in a pc or in a console. Problem is that game devs arnt making use of that kind of power yet since they  want to make games for both systems for the payday.

Plus the online component for ps3 is free, and microsofty charges you on top of buying the title of your choosing.

I know the hate folks feel for SOE on the pc but the console is another story . They really went all out on the ps3 and took a loss so that folks could afford buy the system and buy the games. They make their loss up with the games... Plus the blueray player is nice. Try buying one for the pc and it will cost you .

I do use a 360 controller for my pc i really like the feel of it compared to the Playstation design. Its more comfortable.

    My 2 cents.

You should get a PS3 if you want to go console MMOs.

Microsoft is very anti mmorpg as far as mmorpgs on the xbox 360 go. Age of Conan and Champions ports are probably both canceled by now.

The Playstation 3 has a few mmorpgs coming up. Freerealms, The Agency and DC Universe. The biggest one is probably Final Fantasy XIV.

Also the PS3 supports any USB/Bluetooth device, and its network is free.

    PS3

Because a recent MMO might actually get released on PS3. All of the Xbox 360 MMOs seem to vanish.

Age of Conan was quietly cancelled, Huxley even the PC version is unknown, APB official website now says a console port might come and there hasnt been any news on Champions Online since PC version released.

The PS3 MIA MMOs are Free Realms.

    None.

MMORPGS and console are two parallel lines, they see each other but should never meet.

I pretty much guarantee Age of Conan dropped off Xbox 360's radar simply because it "failed", for lack of a better term. Poor financial performance get's games cut, it's standard business. Champions, if dropped, would be for the same reason. It's not exactly a raving success either.

I play FFXI on 360, and I pay no fees to Microsoft. Xbox Live Gold is not required for FFXI and probably would not be for any other mmorpg. MS gets it's cut from the box sales and licensing fees from the company running the mmo, and don't even have to handle so much as customer support. It's pure profit for MS.

So there's no reason for the 3 60 to be less viable than the PS3 with the argument your presenting.

I don't know for sure why Age of Conan never made it to the Xbox 360. I was always curious how they were planning to do that considering the game is what, 20 or 30gb? That pretty much excludes everybody who has a 20gb or less, which I think make up for quite a big portion of the xbox 360 install base. I think that Age of Conan's dissapointing performance probably also had a big impact on it and I can't imagine the xbox 360 crowd is really waiting for a game like that.

Champions online is Microsofts fault. Cryptic mentioned that the Xbox 360 version of Champions is complete and good to go, but Microsoft is still isn't ready for it yet, as they still haven't approved of it. This is also the reason why Final Fantasy XIV is currently exclusive to the Playstation 3 as Square Enix is still in the talks with Microsoft.

Microsoft has struggled with mmorpgs before when it canceled True Fantasy Live.
