My inactive account was banned today...

BiggusRiggusBiggusRiggus Member UncommonPosts: 126

I have not paid a sub in almost three months. The account was inactive. It was not resubbed by anyone or I would have gotten an e-mail.

I got an e-mail today from Blizz saying my account was closed. No I was not phished. I went to the Blizz site by typing the url. So, again, no I was not phished... and sure enough, my almost 4 year old account is closed. They said I made an exchange of "in game items" for real world gold.

I think Blizz has finally gone too far. This is stupid. The text of the e-mail follows:

Reason for Closure: Terms of Use Violation -- Exploitative Activity: Abuse of the Economy This account was closed because one or more characters were identified exchanging, or contributing to the exchange of, in-game property (items or gold) for "real-world" currency. This exchange process negatively impacts the World of Warcraft game environment by detracting from the value of the in-game economy. Even if this behavior is the result of a third party accessing the account instead of the registered user (for example, a friend, family member, or leveling service) then the account can still be held responsible for the penalty because of the impact it had on the game environment. We've found the above behavior is many times directly related to groups responsible for compromising World of Warcraft accounts; we take these issues very seriously. To better understand our position against exploitative activity and the risks involved, please review this article: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/antigold.html The exploitative activity that took place on this account violates the World of Warcraft Terms of Use. We ask you take a moment to review these terms at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.html. Any recurring subscriptions on this account have been suspended to prevent further monetary charges. For any disputes of this action, please visit the Exploitative Activity FAQ and Contact page here: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/exploitfaq Regards, Blizzard Entertainmentwww.worldofwarcraft.com

Nope. I had several accounts. This one had a level 72 palli on it. Nothing against EULA.

One of two things, or both, happened:

Either you've bought gold or powerleveling services in the past or you visited a gold or powerleveling service website and have some malicious code on your computer.

Or that you haven't merged your account to a Battle.net account, because you had to do that before November 10th or else they wont work or something.

My brother had his account hacked and ended up having it banned six months later for the same reasons you mentioned.  He ened up calling them and getting his account back but he did get hacked and reported it when it happened.

Hopefully you just didn't transfer the account to the new thing (battlenet I think) they are doing any you got the wrong email.  Yeah it's a pretty far reach but you can always hope.  If not give em a call and explain the situation and you should be good to go.  I know they have taken care of one of my old accounts for me in the past.  I had to show proof of ID and get a paper notorized but I still ended up with the account back.  It's been so long ago I don't even remember why it happened I just remember having to get a damn paper notorized for a video game.

    Good luck to ya.

The same thing happened to my brother. His long inactive account was banned for gold selling or something.

One thing I thought might have contributed to it is that he made a Runes of Magic account a few days before he got this mail with the same account info as his WoW account. I have no idea how he would have gotten a keylogger though since he doesn't visit gaming type websites or forums.

I don't know what you did while playing WoW.

But one possibility could be that the staff needs quite some time to look through old logs.

Another thing could be that the logs contain IP informations and accounts are banned due to the IPs by which they were last logged in or during the time of the offense (a very naive way which will punish honest and cheating customers alike). But that is just a guess and could be totally wrong.
