Yeah ive been doing the same thing, though the majority of games lately are lucky to keep my attention for mor ethan 2 or 3 days, rarely more than a week. It sjust a lot fo "ive done this before... hundreds and hundreds of times, this isnt innovative, or new, or fun at all" and i move on to the next one. ive been excited about upcoming games, then they launch and at first its fun and entertaining and you get to check out all the new stuff, but unfortunately once you get past the initial "fun" part of discovering the new things, or checking out the new classes, races, etc.... they all turn into the same mind numbing boredom that every other game before it eventually became. Too much of just remaking the same core game with a new/prettier skin on it, and nothing more than that.
Not really. I am not subscribed to any MMO at the moment. I have plenty of friends with varied tastes that they end up playing a lot of the titles and I just borrow their account now and again to see what the game is about. I usually find that it's not really for me for one reason or another and just end up feeling glad I didn't fork over the money for the title personally. I think I'll just stick to single/multiplayer games for now. One of these days one of my friends is bound to try something that might catch my eye but I don't hold out any hope. I just find my entertainment where I can.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
Yea Ive been bouncing about a lot of late. Perhaps Im getting long in the tooth, but MMOs dont have the magic they once had. Many are solid games, but I think I need some time away.
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Ye im pretty much like the above poster, i really wish i could be addicted to a game and have the magical feeling you had when playing your first MMO. Sometimes i think becoming an elite as in keeping up with every thing and going into details of MMO's probably killed it for me, many games i would of otherwise i kept on playing even with there faults now its like we know of all the problems a game owuld have that's coming out in 2 years. Last time i was happily enjoying a game was over 8 months ago, ever since then the max ive stayed with one game is a month and thats playing other games on the side too. My to try or give another shot list right now is really short and if i don't find anything by january ish i'll most likely leave the genre and come back after a year or so.
I am exactly the same way. I stuck with City of Heroes for about half a year or more and didn't play anything else. Then I tried WoW and for some reason since then I haven't been able to stick to one MMO for more than a month. It's sad, really ):
Oh god. I totally relate. I used to stick with MMO's for a long time and now sticking with one for even a month is a feat in itself. I always just attribute it to ADD and being crazy but if there are so many others like me, maybe its just the quality of games these days?
There are times where I have like 5 MMO's subbed at a time because nothing can hold my interest for long...
This sparked a realization that I hadn't put together. Prior to playing WoW, I subscribed to maybe 3 games total and they were all 6 month+ subscriptions. Post playing it, I rarely stick around for more than 1-2 months. This is partially due to friends who bounce around a lot and one in particular who can't seem to stick with one, but it's more fun playing a game with someone I know than playing one alone. Though I can't complain this time since he picked me up a copy of the game he wanted to play, that being FFXI. I've made it clear I'd stab him if he tried to drag me back to WoW again though, which he has done in the past.
I reinstalled Oblivion. I decided I was spending too much money jumping around. I normally keep my WoW account on since I play with my wife off and on but I'm avoiding trying others right now.
other than WoW I've tried EQ2, Vangaurd, Lineage2, Warhammer, City of Villians and DnD online before it went free to play. I even downloaded the beta for the new DnD but havent messed with it at all. Aion is one I am avoiding trying. Luckily I don't hear anything so amazing about it. Doesn't seem like I'm missing anything really, but if I tried Aion i'm sure I would enjoy it to some extent. But, yea. It's hard to get into others for an extended period so I just go back to WoW and even then I never get too hardcore into the grind anymore, except for maybe a few day binge then set it aside for weeks.
I find things i like about all of them but mainly because of the fantasy setting of the games and I prefer to make my own character in games rather than have a pre-set character and storyline.
I used to be like you till I found Fallen Earth, most games I played a month max if that. IDK maybe its the combination of the combat and the setting that is different than most mmos so it hooked me.
I think I played SWG until the bitter end. It's still up there but was pretty bitter for me. I played L2 for a good few months, and was lucky enough to find a great community there, but the repetition killed me, played MxO, with no community to speak of and lasted a few months. Tried WoW for a few months with a few rl former swg mates, found it bug free, and interest free. I fell into Ryzom and just loved it until it went off line for a year (yes, I am sure it is still great). Then fell into Tabula Rasa, which was actually getting my attention, and right, shut down a month later (note I beta tested this, it was better).
Basically, seems everything I liked in the last few years just went belly up.
By the way...the level equalizer in Oblivion just killed the game for me. I tried to like it...really I did...but that just killed it for me, over and over and over...
Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.
Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside
Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.
