I mean, a MMO like, say, EQ2 or LOTRO or what? Because, I never ever heard of this before. And I thought I knew about all MMOs at least by title. And given its FF. I thought FF are single player games? I looked at the few screenshots and though, no way in hell this is a MMO! I mean, what uber machines are going to run this?
Its more a single player game with online features, right? Like Dungeon Siege? Or is it really a MMO?? Hard to believe, since there isn't even an entry about it in the list here under "Games in Developement".
If it is a MMO, can you sum it up whats it like in a few sentences?

Yup defiantly a MMO... this will be the second FF MMO suppose you may have heard of FFXI? maybe not but anyway this is a MMO just like EQ2 or LoTRo... the rest of the info like summing up the game for you there is not alot of info out as of yet and if you just google or go to maybe one of the fan website they would be better at summing the game up for u.... and it does have a tag for games in developement

Try there
Well considering the fact that you can't really compair FFXI to any mmo out there due to how it require a group to get anywhere, other reasons as well but it's late and I'm lazy, I'm going to assume that FFXIV will fall within the same catagory
Uhhh, haven't you ever played/heard of Final Fantasy XI?
Not only is this a Final Fantasy MMO, it's the second Final Fantasy MMO.
Yes, this is an MMO.

After re-reading this post I detect a Troll ...
I have heard of FF.. IX? Or whatever that number of the old FF MMo was, but thats it, the name. I read the official website, but it was not really revealing concerning gameplay at all, just some races and world and thats it. Kinda surprised this is set for 2010 when you read about it nowhere. But maybe I didnt look.

and you have NOT HEARD OF IT??? wwtf? LOL. it has one of the only sucessfmmo's that has maintained a very solid playerbase/ subscriptions for a very long period of time
Yeah FFXI Online is huge actually. Its been out since around 2003 and according to a lot of people (including the devs) it still holds a steady 500,000 subscriptions.

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.
FF games are single player RPGs, just like Warcraft games are RTS.

How could you not know what this game is?It's predecessor FF11 was very successful for its time. When I first started playing FF11 on PS2, I didn't even own a computer and I knew what it was. I'm pretty sure there was a point they advertised the game on broadcast TV in America. That's something you rarely see for MMORPGs and when you do it's only for the most successful ones like WoW.
I don't know if you're making a sad trolling attempt or just really that oblivious. There's a LINK to the game on this very website that's been on here for months since it was first announced. There are pages of news articles on this website and the links provide interviews with the devs.
I can sum it up in one sentence; stop being lazy and use the tools this website provides to find out.
You got us. It's a giant hoax.
Well its kind of like an mmo, but with no jumping. hehe
Hmm I cant decide if the OP is trolling or being legit with his question. I honestly think it has to be a troll atempt because how could someone who claims to be knowlagable with the MMO market not know about Final Fantasy XI. Especially since it is one of the top MMO's of all time. With a little research anyone could see that ffxiv is an MMO. If nothing else maybe the same style of races should have given it away? But I think people come and spout of crap without using that gord on top of their shoulders.

this is definitely a MMO, and if it is like it's predecessor it will be one of the few MMO's that actually feels like a world and offers more then just combat.
Elikal do a little research on FFXI and you might get an idea on how SE runs things. FFXI is truly one of the last of the old school that remains true to itself throughout the years. It is one of the only MMO's I consider to feel like a world with as much depth and thought they put behind its design. Plus the community is one of the best I have seen in years. So hopefully this stuff transfers over.
Eorzeapedia.com is a helpful resource if you want to learn what little there is about FFXIV at the moment
FFXIclopedia.org is also a good resource just to see what kind of MMO FFXI is.
Lol, sorry but I assure you I don't know about it. See, I play MMos since SWG was new, but I am not into Final Fantasy. I didnt have a console until 2 years ago, and I never owned many console titles. The only FF game I ever played was FF XI or XII, that with this watersports guy Wakka. I played it, it was nice but somehow I did only understand half of what was going on, and I thought, oh well, maybe I should have played FF 1 - 10 to understand the world. Until lately I thought all FF games are in the same universe and follow up titles, kinda like Ultima 1-9 or Elder Scrolls 1 - 4. So for me, when I read FF XIV I thought "oh great, I have to play FF 1 - 13 to understand what is going on, thanks a ton." And that was the end of the story for me back then.
I mean, when I buy "Batman and Robin Reborn 14" I know, ok, read Reborn 1 - 13 FIRST. So seeing the number, I just never looked further into it since I did not want to play 13 FF games first. And yes I did hear there was some FF MMo already, something old due to the screenshots, or so I felt and that was the end of that for me.
I never read any news about it here, it does not seem to be very promiment in presentation on MMORPG.com for whatever reasons, and only 2 days ago when someone posted about predictions of MMOs in 2010 I read FFXIV was a MMO. I mean, yeah, someone maybe mentioned it, but I thought, well its prolly some single player game with online features, the difference does get somewhat shady these days. So honestly, I have not heard about a new FF MMO since recently. I mean, why make a MMO and call it "Final Fantasy FOURTEEN"? Doesn't that imply, ok, first play FF 1 to 13? Why not just "Final Fantasy ONLINE"? Ok, whatever. But I just don't know. Is any question these days trolling? Wow. So before googling 2 hours and scanning through tons of fanbois and hatebois, I thought, hey why not ask and get some 5 liners like "FF14 is like WOW", or "FF14 is like Lineage 2" or whatever it is like. Is that such a mirculous question in a MMORPG FORUM? XD
EDIT: Ok, I read FFIX is oldschool which I hate. Downtimes, travel times, harsh penealities, EQ1 stuff. Not my thing. Is FF14 like that too? I mean hardcore old school? Or is it more casual like say, LOTRO? Thats what I basically want to know.

I'm hoping it will be a nice balance between the old school and the modern MMO's. Old school MMO's timesink are a bit too extreme, but the focus on community and group, and world immersion are greater IMO. Meanwhile modern MMO's are riddled with ADD courier/kill x/or whatever quests that dot the entire landscape and are too solo centric with little emphasis on community and immersion.
They have already mentioned it will be a little more casual then FFXI and more soloable but we don't have any clue to what degree they mean by that yet. SE is usually tight lipped about their releases, but we'll probably see much more once FFXIII comes out.
Too many people on this site don't spend the time to actually read and comprehend what others are trying to communicate. The OP is not a troll, and is merely asking a simple question. Not everyone is into JRPG's and knows about them like the back of their hand.
They've explicitly stated they are making it casual friendly. Looks like it should be the best of both worlds.
FF14 is supposed to be oriented more to casual players, or so I've read. Which does make some sense. If you already have a hardcore game, do you really want to compete with yourself?
It is also supposed to be both Console AND PC playable, just like FFXI.
Beyond that, there is plenty of information out there that is pretty easy to get to, so if U wanna know more look it up.

Is this some kind of joke question? I mean c'mon before WoW came out FFXI had at one point more subscibers then any MMO at that time. I think this guy must be kidding he has to be.
