I haven't really payed any attention to it. Another classic case of devs charging for beta? Is it at least worth playing, as in if I hated how Darkfall was presented would I like this?

Shouldn't you have posted this in the Mortal Online section?
But yeah, haven't heard tons about it recently. It looks like it has the potential to be a great game.
<--- MO forums that way.
Questions like these usually winds up with someone being modded for trolling if posted on a games board for some reason.
One thing straight. It's not a pay to play beta. It's a pre-order. With the pre-order you have access to beta and play for free. When the game releases you will have your free month as well.
Sounds fair enoughe for me.
Think its better this way. A free beta you can violate as much as you want! But with this way you really need to get your shit togeather and read up first. You dont wanna try a game that you are not interesred in! As you can do with a free beta.
I think MO takes a special mindset. Read over the features on it, and if even one seems bad to you, don't bother. No need for another "I paid 35euro for this crap?" post.
I'm curious, can anyone get into beta or just people who pre order the game?

Currently? Just people that pre-order.
Thread moved.

Pre-order. It's not a free trial. It's a beta.
If you didn't like Darkfall you should carefully examine why you didn't like it. MO will be the same in many ways. First person, PvP, FFA loot and that type of thing will be common to both.
Both are small dev's so you're going to see the same slow response time to problems, lack of advertising and other flashy promotions that bigger devs can put together and some problems that would have been tested out in a big dev environment.
Compare the features specifically, or you won't be able to make a good choice. This game certainly won't be for everyone, just like Darkfall.

For me, I liked the IDEA of Darkfall more then Darkfall itself. I love the exploration factor and even the danger exploring. I don't MIND PvP at all, but I felt SO clunky when I was trying to kill things in that game.
The major difference between MO & DFO for me will be the absolute 1st person. I wanted to be more melee-oriented in DFO but due to that going into 3rd person it made it very awkward for me and I didn't like the animations at all.
So I personally am just hoping that with total 1st person, MO will be more of a "me-game".
Yep, exactly the same here, i can relate to you on that. I really cant wait to see how this game turns out. First person only, while will deter some people from playing i think will also draw some people in. I think this kind of style to a game, especially an mmorpg can be very immersive. If the combat is done well, good weight feeling on the weapons, directional combat moves and a nice blocking/dodging system it could be a good one.

Pre-order. It's not a free trial. It's a beta.
So wait a minute, you mean to say any beta you get into without pre-ordering is a free trial?

Pretty much I am afraid, notice how most beta are basically exactly the same on release minus some bugs and maybe a new feature or two. Do you really think devs need thousands of people to test something that can be done with 100 people? Its just a marketing tool these days. With MO it is rather different...

A somewhat good observation, but missing the emphasis and thus the point - because here you're only arguing that a beta is a free trial these days.
Whereas the post I quoted would mean: for any beta to be a real beta, you have to pay the company and buy game the first. And that would just be an odd argument that gets the whole thing backwards.
If you didn't like Darkfall, you probably won't like this either.

I understand what she meant, basically most games now a days are the 5 buck pre-order get into beta to test it out which is just a marketing scheme to give people a head start look at the game. It is not a beta its basically a trial of the game, sure there are some bugs but most of the time when they give people the ability to put 5 bucks down on a pre-order and get into beta it will be indeed a trial and not a beta.
In your comment no not all betas you get into without pre-ordering is a free trial, you actually have a better chance of being in an actual beta instead of a free trial if you don't pre-order and are actually invited into the closed beta. In terms of pre order betas MO's beta is probably the closest thing I have seen to an actual beta in a long time of beta testing games. Huxley is close to it also, testing single areas, testing different features and inserting new ones one at a time. Most people expect to go into the beta and play the full game and enjoy it which is not what a beta is.
People need to stop saying this, these are 2 different games. I played Darkfall, and it was horrible. Sure the outline is similiar but thats just the outline its not the whole story. For people considering this game, as someone who has preordered the game and seen the game work, don't go off the recommendations of people until the game is actually released, until the NDA is lifted anything said to make the game look great or bad is speculation unless stated by SV themselves. Simple as that.
Actually, I know many in the MO beta that also played DFO saying there are some simularites, but there are many differences and it feels like a completely different game. In their opinion, MO is much more fun to play. Also, even thou graphic isn't all, the animation and models in MO is much better done.
To OP.
I recommend you to read up about MO and if you like what you read and can accept bugs in the game, due to, .... it's beta, then you can pre order and start playing now. What I have heard is that the game have progress alot only the last month, so they take large steps forward for each patch now.
If not, at least check out the game again when it is released. I think you will be surprised what you will see ... what you can do in that world .... by then.

It is a different game, so it is pretty obviously that it should feel like a different game! (Otherwise, they would have a lawsuit on their hands.) But the OP specifically said that he didn't like Darkfall. MO is sufficiently similar to Darkfall, that he probably won't like it either.
The biggest difference between the two right now would be that Darkfall has PvE content (albeit minimal) and large scale battles/seiges.

MO have PvE. I just saying what people I know is saying, those that have tried DF and is now playing MO. The games feels totally different. MO is much more fun.
But I recommend the OP to not go for what me, Terminus-Est or any other say about this game. OP should check out MO himself of about some weeks. Every second week lots is patch in and many bugs fixed. Hopefully the NDA will be lifted soon so the OP will get proper feedback.
MO's PvE isn't in yet - hopefully it will have it eventually, but not yet (other than a few placeholder mobs).
Also, you do realise that the OP can't just 'check out MO himself', without forking out a substantial amount of cash? By the time he finds out what garbage it is, it will be too late. Your post seems really bad advice.
My advice? Stay away from this game. It's years away from being released, if at all.
