Is anybody following Dawntide? I wonder why it isn't included in the gameslist here on MMORPG.com
The game looks very promising.
From the website:
"We believe the best way to make that reality is to give players the freedom to define their character through their actions, and promote social interaction and interdependence through the game features. When players are encouraged to form realistic societies, many more different meaningful roles become available for the player to engage in at all times. This doesn’t mean that solo play isn’t perfectly viable – only that any kind of play will have the greatest rewards when your opponent is another player.
Dawntide achieves this by creating end goals that require the participation of all player types to complete – from carebears to griefers. Players in Dawntide can create their own cities, even forming nations with their own army and armada. The game gives them the opportunity to create and enforce their own laws and establish government, as well as it gives other players the opportunity to break those laws and overthrow those governments – at their own risk."

I don't know what Im more sick of: Generic asian grindfest click-to-move MMOs (Aion, L2, RF) or Generic sandbox completely player run UO wannabe Euro MMOs (Darkfall, Mortal Online, Ryzom).
I agree about the 2nd thing your sick of. Not the first one, for starters Aion isn't even click to move.
This one isn't even worth looking at though, the company behind it is called working as intended. One of the best way to make sure nobody takes your project seriously is by naming your company or group after an internet game meme.
I agree about the 2nd thing your sick of. Not the first one, for starters Aion isn't even click to more.
It actually is. For the locialization they made keyboard movements default. It actually has decent WASD movement compared to half assed attempts like L2. The combat is all based around click movement as well. Everything feels so stiff and static. Things like having to wait for your complete animation to show and still landing a hit when a mob has run 15 feet away shows this.

Aion was designed as a WASD movement game right from the beginning, you can easily tell by looking at the very early gameplay video.
Aion isn't your typical asian grindfest, it's designed after western mmorpgs, not eastern.

Its a grindfest with WASD movements with a western game engine. Thats pretty much the only thing that sets it apart from the rest.

It took the first players about 2 weeks to reach the cap level. if Aion is a grindfest, so is every other mmorpg ever.
But this thread isn't about Aion, it's about yet another indie mmorpg project that is going nowhere.

You opened this can of worms buddy. The person or persons who hit the level cap in 2 or so weeks obviously were playing for the sole purpose on doing so, had a few buddies or a guild helping, and most likely played on the korean or chinese servers. With that said, pretty much every MMO has had this happen. WoW has had people reach max level after both expansions in a matter of hours. Doesn't make any game less of a grind because people know how to exploit the game mechanics. Aion becomes a terrible grind around lv 30-35. As in killing the same mobs over and over for hours just to level, without doing any quests.
Man, you post such crap. Why aren't you banned yet?
The "first players" to reach the level cap are the players that slept about six hours in those two weeks, and ate and shat at the computer.
But, this thread isn't about a crappy Asian railroad grinder, it's about a game company who's trying to do something that differs from the norm.

Even if we assume that these people played for a long time each day, say 15 hours, that would mean someone who plays around 8 hours takes about little over a month, someone who plays 4 hours somewhere around 2 months.
So whenever a game takes about 2 or 3 months to reach the cap, it's now a grindfest? Saying there are certain parts with few quests is not a strong argument. Everquest didn't have quests everywhere, neither did UO and I don't think AC did either. Are those all asian grindfests as well? It might be hard to imagine but there once was a time when people played an mmorpg longer than the first free month
That's the last thing I'll say about that in this thread.
Also to Devour, I'm not banned yet because there is no reason to ban me. I'm sorry to dissapoint you but having a different opinion from you isn't against the rules.
Also this is not a company trying something new. We have had quite a few of indie small company mmorpgs which promise the world. That was different the first time someone did it, now it's just another one.
Oh dear, what a derail.
REALITY CHECK
Except, those people are EXTREMELY dedicated, and every time you enter the world it takes a small time to get your bearing. Someone who plays 4 hours each day will take a lot longer than someone who plays 15 hours a day, because of factors OTHER THAN TIME.
I'm wondering why you're not banned yet because you're obnoxious, annoying and seem to take great joy in posting misinformation about Aion. "IT'S NOT ASIAN IT'S A WESTERN GAME FFS".

I did have a good read at this blog of his though

Ahahahahahahahah. "WOMEN ARE GETTING ATTENTION, I WANT ATTENTION, I WISH I WAS A WOMAN."
As a rule of thumb, I've learned to ignore everything that Gameloading says, as my tolerance for him is low.
Anyways, Dawntide is a blast and I can't wait til they finish fleshing out each of the skill sets and character customization. It's a pretty awesome game and is incredibly detailed, even in the alpha phase it's in. Even one of the devs have said that the beta title is incredibly misleading, so take it in with a grain of salt. I'm loving that player housing is allowed anywhere =D
That said, you'll also want IRC open whenever you're in game and sometimes even otherwise. The community is great and helpful and most people know a lot. That and IRC is the best way to get an invite, granted you're not begging.

I wouldn't mind jumping into the alpha / beta or whatever. Link to the IRC< please?
I knew the name sounded familiar, Wiz and crew are the same ones that used to run winter's roar back in the day. Very interested in seeing how this game turns out.
Playing Fallen Earth.

Care to elaborate for those of us who aren't in the know and have never heard of Winter's Roar?
Isn't this thread supposed to be about Dawntide?

It was a private server for EQ a few years ago, the devs were like hardcore players back then.

Heh..so the devs of this game used to play and run an EQ1 private server? Thats pretty interesting. Did Sony shut it down?

If it WAS a private server, SOE can't take legal action. it was never theirs to begin with. Not to mention, Dawntide is completely its own game as of yet.

I'm not really sure how exactly it was shut down but google says sony told em to do it.
--Oh and i meant like its kinda bad rep for your game when people know you were doing illegal things before making the game and well sony is known for ruining games who knows what they'll pull off against these guys.
