Today, I got told in racial chat...
I am rather new to darkfall, been playing 5 days. Haven't registered with a clan yet so I have been flying solo. Have had a few questions, I ask in racial chat, usually no one responds, but a few have sent me tells helping me out.
Today, I ask a question and I get the response. Shut the f*** up you fa**ot.
Proceed by someone else saying, yeah you f**got.
Then both of them just laying into me, needless to say I did not respond because I have no desire to argue with some obviously emotionally disturbed people over the internet.
Needless to say I guess my main question is.. Are a lot of people in Darkfall like this?
Does adventurine have a policy against such behaviour? Or is it just like the rules in Darkfall, free for all in play, and in words?
Not that I am sensitive to being called such things, just figured I would "say something back" but in a /report kinda way.

Im not surprised. This type of game attracts all the internet tough guys with the constant griefing and the ability to jack all your gear. Im sure there are a few cool people, but the majority who play this type of game are huge on smack talk. I recognize a few of the big clans from other games and know they operate like this first hand.
I was in Darkfall in beta and a month or so after launch... it is prevelant. ... The only solice you can take is knowing that 99% of the idiots who talk like that are in fact slimy dirty nerd slobs living in the parents house until mid 30's who have utterly no social skills beyond conversations with themselves during masterbation.

I've played quite a bit of darkfall and while i've run into my share of idiots, it haven't ever been responded to like that, over a question especially.
I've heard that alfar race chat is pretty bad though.

I was wondering if it was just Alfar chat. A dark "no friends" race is likely to attract real people that are "mean spirited" and have no friends. Didn't really think about it when I made the character.
The chat is generally bad though. This one person inperticular, which I wont name, is always flooding it with crap. He was the one who actually started the banter of words after I asked some questions.
Guess I will just deal with it, rather than try and reporting it. Just suprised me to be responded to in such a manner, not even "noob" but stright to the words mentioned in my original post.

Yes, this is the norm from what ive seen. You will see no limit to vaginal and penile humor and discussion, along with in depth talks about drug abuse, rape and incest. Its a cold world in there, and you will be called a fag many times... I am still playing but to be honest, at 36 years old it gets a little rough for me at times.

I've been playing barely longer than you, and have also had several questions I've asked in racial chat. Most of my questions have been answered without incident. A few times someone has messaged me and given me helpful advice on different part of the game. Only once did I get a similar response to the OP, and they got laid into by a few people for acting like a dumbass and running new players off. I'm not Alfar though, so that could be the difference.

Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR

The fact that this is a small indie MMO which probably doesn't have many MMOs to police the 17 year old who just got done playing Xbox Live as well I doubt reporting will do any good. They already have their hands full with fixing bugs and making the game presentable. I personally miss when gaming as a whole used to be nerdy and didn't have all of the smacktards and fratboys. Back when it was an enthusiests hobby and lacking the stereotype online gaming has in particular. I never played UO, but Im sure when it was first released there was a real sense of community and respect between each player.
Just put them on ignore and go back about your business. I've never played an online game that didn't trash talking morons. Just ignore them and you'll be fine; being a tattle tale and reporting them is in my mind just as lame as them talking trash on a global chat.
Well, I am half tempted to reroll, but I have made my first 1000 gold, and made some weapons. But I guess that is chicken scratch compared to what people usually have.
Also, more importantly, I know the Alfar area around Deep Yishku/Shoal decently enough to run to goblins/kobolds and back.
Maybe I should just reroll dwarf. I just like the look of Alfar, as well as the mounts. We will see.

well I am surprised. people in my racial alliance chat are always really helpful to noobs. i'm talking going out of their way to give free gear etc.
what server are you on? what race are you? because there is effetively 6 racial alliance chats (3 per server). obviously some are going to be worse communities than others. my RA is the elf/human/dwarf on EU1.

yes means all races , ofcourse NEW is always a good tip i just thought afterwards the 30 days..if you need time to select etc then get in NEW.

Just ignore the idiots, they were most likely just screwing around so getting too worked up about people who act like that isn't worth it. Just don't get too repetitive in your question and you should be fine(I have yet to have any problem for asking even the dumbest question).
I would remember their names as you will see them in game eventually. Direct your anger from being disrespected to building the strongest character possible. When you see them again ... teach them a lesson they'll remember!
I just looted a player to poverty who was talking obscenities in chat. Hoping they quit out of frustration.
sad thing is those that talk like that prolly do get really really mad and possibly rage quit when the community turns on them and murders them into oblivion =D its a good thing

To answer one of the original questions no there is no "policing" of chat/behavior in Darkfall. The GMs do cheat monitoring and that's about it. Even then you wonder sometimes if they're doing that.
Well someone on these forums advised me against going Alfar before I started as they were a bit over populated, well I'm glad I went Ork now. Racial chat has been fairly quiet nowhere near the level of asshattery you're describing, new players are helped in all chat channels. Sometimes if you're new other players won't kill you.
As stated before all MMORPGs have their fair share of cock gobblers, EVE only appeared to be more "mature" due to the fact there was no global chat. It still got worse than what you described (people putting links to 2 girls and one cup in their chat!). Also you're on the NA server which has just had a lot of players transfer there from EU.
I find the chat to be pretty good in all channels but then again my last MMORPG was AoC, which had the worst chat of any MMORPG I've ever played full of retarded potty humour and just morons with a mental age of 12 in a competition to be more vile than the other.
My advice would be to join clan NEW, then atleast you can get the advice and support you need without having to suffer the retards.

As said previously, just ignore those people that acts that way, they're only there to get their satisfaction with people responding to their idiocy. Heck, i didn't really see many of those as a mahirim the first month, i guess i were lucky? And yeah.. As Agricola said, AoC have such an awful community which makes the barrens in wow look like a bunch of mature men talking about quantumphysics.

Words only carry meaning if you give them meaning. I could go around angrily calling people a weeglazoo. It's a ridiculous word that (as far as I now) has absolutely no meaning. I may intend it as an insult, but it's just a word and because no one thinks of it with meaning then it has no meaning.
People who take offense to language are just.....children. And yes, I realize I'm talking about the majority of the adult population. It's plain silly. The only time to should take offense to a person is if they approach you with the clear intent of causing you harm. Getting all puffed up over words is no better than an animal frizzing up when another animal grunts and growls at it. So, do you want to be an animal or a more evolved being?
Grow up people, words are just words. If you really don't like it then, in this instance, go kill the people who are bothering you.
