Fun for a while, grows repetitive. Am I doing something wrong? (not another rant)

So far, I've tried EVE 3 times with 14-day trials. From what I've seen, it's an awesome and complex game, but every time I tried it, I noticed that after the fun start which lasted about 10 days for me, I fall into a repetitive pattern where I log on, queue skills and maybe do a few missions.

I know I've only barely scratched the surface of EVE, but I was wondering, is there something I'm missing or not doing?

Missions (and mining) are the 'grind' of EVE, so try other things Trading for example (buying in one place selling in another).

Also joining a corp also helps, gets you into the social element of mmos.

Hey even make an alt with a starting frigate and go running through 0.0 space for a laugh....:P

No, you're not doing anything wrong, like all MMORPGs EVE has repetitive elements and doesn't mask them behind quests which really are repetitive if you examine them carefully.

Every ISK making venture in EVE is repetitive, from mining, to mission running to ratting, to buying/selling the in the market to hauling goods around the universe.

    Especially if done solo.

Nothing brightens up a mission/mining op/ratting or wormhole op like running with a good group of mates who watch your back, especially when out in 0.0 or low sec. (I'm assuming you haven't spent much time out there yet).

Also, running pve ops in systems where you can be killed adds a much bigger edge to the game than safely farming in empire space.

Get yourself into a good corp that does cooperative activities together and you'll start seeing EVE in a totally new light.

    Thanks for the fast replies.

What you're saying is, try a lot of different things? I guess I got stuck up in the idea of sticking to one thing.

Again, thanks for the advice, I'll try expanding my horizons and actually have fun, rather then race for the max level.

Your also missing the excitement of killing the most interesting mobs in Eve.

    Namely, the rest of us.

Best thing you can do is join a Corporation. It opens a lot more doors for you.

Eve is sandbox, it is what you make it.

There are very few strucutred/direct things to do hence the feeling of repetitiveness if you just follow whats there.

    For example:

You could be a miner and be mining in secure space, take that mining out to 0.0, even solo(ninja) mining and it becomes a whole new experience. Same with missions, runningmissions in secure space is boring after a bit, spice it up by running them in low sec or 0.0, or run the pvp missions that take you into enemy teritory.

Trading, buying and selling is one thing, cornering the market and aggressive trading is another.

In an nut shell - Eve provides the tools, you have to create your own story...much like life.

I'm starting to get the hang of the concept now, I'm definitely following all of your advice as soon as someone responds with a 21-day trial.

On a sidenote, any Corporations you would suggest?

My advice is this: Find a nice pirate corp that lives in low sec. Join them, kill stuff, and you will no longer be bored. PVE in EVE is a complete waste of time and really boring, pvp on the other hand is really awesome.

Heh, I did try playing with a decent corp once. They weren't necessarily pirates, but they were at war with dozens of corps, which can be quite annoying when you're just starting out.

Much like others have said, a good corp, big or small, removes the grind from this game.

Much of Eve's gameplay occurs at 0 kph.  You're docked, manufacturing, or out in an asteroid field mining(always best with a crew of people), checking the market for cheap goods to sell at a higher price elsewhere... any number of things.

And all those activities are SO much better when you've got a bunch of folks to chat and do those things with.
