Returning MMORPG player

Azntranc3Azntranc3 Member Posts: 169

Hey all, so I haven't played any MMORPGS (or any games for that matter) in quite some time due to real life events (mainly school...) and I've decided to start playing MMORPGS on my free time again.

I'm thinking of playing Lord of the Rings actually. Some question I have are obviously number 1) What is the best server? 2) How fun is the game overall? How big is the world? Is there lots to do. i.e housing? Endgame?

Thanks in advance.

Lotro is doing good on all servers pretty much

The game is fun kinda clumsy interface but its easy to figure out!

The World is massive...... almost 2 massive

I think they added housing and end game looking pretty good with updates and xpacs coming out often!

Give it a try if you dont like it Aion and WoW are other MMOs to try

Lvl 75 Black Mage/White Mage ffxi
    Lvl 80 Druid WoW
    Lvl 34 Ranger Aion

1/population isn't awful on any sever as far as i know, but overall isn't anywhere near as high as it should be(around 150k altogether i think)

2/depends what you consider fun.  Gameplay is the same dull, plodding ,turn based, zero challenge affair of almost every other mmorpg available but a lot of people like that. You'll have to decide for yourself if you do/don't

3/world is the standard linear style so only as big as your level

4/housing is instanced, endgame is doing the next part of the book they bring out and usually grinding more lvls

fyi lotro is a pve based game

Games I play and have actually been good enough for me, as a seasoned MMOer and just a seasoned gamer in general, to pay for are as follows:

*WoW - Not anymore, mind you. I wouldn't touch it in the state it's in. It's so mind-numbingly easy.

*Knights of Dream City - It feels like a dungeon crawler when you play. Heavily instanced, but the instances are all public, rather than private. I like it and it's a $20 lifetime sub. Sci-fi.

*A Tale In the Desert - <3 It's non-violent and has tons of content. The world is enormous, it's set in ancient Egypt, it's the ultimate crafting game, it's got all sorts of Dev and GM run events, player-tests, contents and competitions and the likes. Hugely community based. The community is amazing too.

*Clan Lord - It's way past its prime but it's only $15 for life and it's old school. Largely community based but not much happens any more.

Games I'm thinking about paying for in the future:

*Dawntide - Largely sandbox and run in the Gamebryo engine (of Oblivion fame). It's shaping up really nicely for being in alpha and it's one of the few games you can play a lizardman.

*Craft of Gods - Based in Slavic mythology and I think you can have any mount you can tame...not sure yet and this is sad because I'm in the beta. I'm not even breaking NDA by saying anything because I don't know. xDD
