It's a very simple answer - because I enjoy it. My little winged cleric just hit 25, and I'm having a great time so far.

Of course, I expect this thread to degenerate into a massive flame-fest after this post. So many Aion-haters here for some reason. :(

People hate whatever game does well on this site. They do it to WoW, Eve, and LOTRO

    QFT.

Oh yeah, the "free-thinkers", in their exaggerated attempts to separate themselves from being perceived as sheep following that which is popular, rush headlong into simply becoming counter-culture sheep.  Baaahhh.

I play Aion because I think it's a lot of fun.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

It's just not the beacon of hope that people imagined it to be.

You know why these hate-bursts occur in the first place? - Because, on game-board XY, some random guy is bored (after having played game XY for some time too long) and posts something like "game XX will be teh game XY killer, as soon as it releases you can all kiss my a** while I enjoy teh best game evar"...

...then this random person subs to new-shiny-XX, has a blast during the first 4 weeks, realizes the game is not the shining symbol of hope and eternal happiness he imagined it to be, but as he doesn't want his self-created idol to crumble he desperately clings to the fact that the game is "the second coming of MMOs" and strengthens his inquisitional attitude with the contrary opinions of the guys at game XY who are a pi**ed by the loud, door-slamming minority that left for game XX.

It's nothing else but mass psychology in a water glass...

On topic. First, I'd like to say is that Aion certainly is not the best MMO of all time. The reason subscribed is because I'm having fun playing with my friends.

cool another thinly disguised "Aion sucks" thread. I play Aion to piss you off

  • Justarius1Justarius1 Member Posts: 381

I play it because I like it; along with Fallen Earth.  They both offer different experiences.  Sometimes it's fun for me to logon to Aion, look at pretty graphics, zone out and hit things with my stick.  Sometimes it's fun to immerse myself in a post-apoc nightmare world. ;)  I like both games because they offer both PvP and PvE, both of which I enjoy.

Well, thank you for your Wall-Mart-isle psychology.

But are you sure you're not taking games too seriously? Beacon of hope? It's a game, for crying out loud.

Play the game or don't. Plain and simple.

And may I add, it can't be a very high percentage of players that discusses about these games here in MMORPG.com (seeing there's 1k concurrent users online at the peak time here). So taking it to messiah level is a bit over the board, don't you think.

I'm not still playing.  Not that aion fails,   just that it's not for me.

It's alright,  but i couldn't get into it.

I do love how easy much of the interface and macro designs are.

  • ThandrasThandras Member Posts: 41

It's not a bad game. But found myself thinking I was playing Pokemon gone WOW every time I logged on.  :) I really wanted to give it a fair shot and try the PVP but I couldn't even stomach it to 20.

To each his own. That's why there is more than just one game.

  • GPrestigeGPrestige Member UncommonPosts: 523

Quite simply, I'm not playing because its terrible.

-Computer specs no one cares about: check.

-MMOs played no one cares about: check.

-Xfire stats no one cares about: check.

-Signature no one cares about: check.

    ------------------------------------------------------------
    -Narcissism: check.

i strongly disagree with that. i think meridion was correct, after uo, eq, daoc, and finally wow, people have been waiting for a game that would revive the mmo genre to the cult-status following potential. maybe the term "beacon of hope" is a strong one, but people are, have been, and probably will continue to be (unless everyone gets sick of mmos failing and gives up) waiting for that mmo that will bring us all back to totally intoxicating addiction.

Your statements above reflect the overall problems with the MMO community at large: narrow-mindedness and intolerance.

MMO players have always been diverse in what they like and don't like.  Sadly, many of them have determined that what they personally like in an MMO is also the only "correct" way an MMO should be.  Which, of course, is garbage.

There will never be an MMO that will "bring us all back" anywhere, because there never has been one like that before.  For all the golden-hued nostalgic memories they engender, MMOs before WoW were often considered an overall disappointment by the computer gaming community (and game companies) in that they weren't meeting the high expectations many prognosticators previously had predicted for the genre.  It's estimated that DAOC and UO both topped out at about 250K subs, while EQ1 may have been in the 450-500K area at its height.  Each had it's own community, which did not completely overlap (there was never a unified "us" as MMO players).

By comparison, games like EvE, Aion, and LOTRO have sub numbers that pretty much match those of the earlier games.  Perhaps, the players of these latter games have found them to be just as good as the "old school" guys believe their first MMO loves were.

Ultimately, for the MMO vet, I believe that the "intoxication" one felt with one's favorite MMO will rarely ever be felt again in another.  To them, there will always be too much that is "wrong" with every other game, because it will never do everything the same way their first "love" did.  Sadly, too few of them seem to possess enough of an open mind to accept and enjoy a new game for what it does, as they are too busy haphazardly throwing around the most overused word in the MMO lexicon: fail.

     Just my 2 cents here...

I'm currently playing Aion because i do enjoy the game to it's fullest and can actually provide a challenge. Aion is a great game, along with WoW, and many other games. For myself as an example,  i hate EvE. The game is not my play style and i really don't have time to sit there for three hours to jump a galaxy. It's just not fun for me.. at all. Yet games like Aion and WoW are.

The game was well made, and well done. granted the botters suck and the grind can be rough, but all in all the game is very well rounded. Sure the " end game content" isn't the most wonderful, but why would it be? there is something called the abyss? mostly of what the game IS directed at, hence the title "aion : tower of eternity". Just stating a fact.  Either way it brings players closer together as a community because you actually HAVE to play together to survive. Even if you're grouped or not. you're level 25 going into the abyss? good luck :). You need those other people there. You mean the other faction rifted over with a huge alliance and are owning the crap out of the "safe" camp and you?? oh.. guess you should call for help. lol

Either way, if you left the game because there was no solo pvp/instanced pvp, or not enough end game content. then you shouldn't have even started, because that is not the games focus. The instances are an 18 hour shut out for crying out loud lol. The Focus was PVPVE  Elyos vs Asmodian vs Balaur .  :)

Either way good gaming to yall... going to hop back on in game and see who i get to kill next.

I'm still playing it because I give a game at least 5 months before I make my final decision. You can never decide how a game will be within the first month of release where all the bugs, crashing and balance issues come up. So far I've only experienced a problem with Fort crashes and back in sept with que lines. Both are gone so now the only problem is PvP during non-fort moments it's usually bot farming in rifts. Other then that though I feel that 5 months is a good amount of time to judge a game and decide whether to keep playing or not especially since I'll know if the patches are worth sticking around.

If there is no one to give feed back about patches then how can we expect the game to get better is my motto :P.

I enjoy the game for the following reasons.  Mind you, I am a father and a husband with a career.  I'm likely older than most of the Aion gamers (but not by much).

I enjoy gathering aether or materials when I come home from work and only have an hour to play.

I enjoy Rifting with my legion mates.

I enjoy crafting and trying to get a blue proc for each set piece at lvl 28, 33, 38, etc. while watching a movie.

I enjoy going to the Abyss and joining a random fortress raid...

    I enjoy the graphics.

I enjoy the gameplay (much more so than WoW).

I enjoy all the little things the devlopers put into the game (fanning yourself in the desert, playing in the water of a lake, shivering in the snow).

    I enjoy aereal combat.

I enjoy receiving the satisfaction of getting my +20% boots from the MM quests and recieving a true sense of accomplishment.

I enjoy getting ganked by a lone rifter only to find them again and exact my revenge.

I enjoy a lot of things that I don't remember because i'm too busy enjoying the game.

I don't resent those that dislike the game and move on, but I do resent those that go out of their way to bash people who like Aion and expect them to have them same visceral hatred that they do.

     you play Aion because

    1. You hate WoW

    2. you like to grind (alot)

    3. because your waiting on a decent next-gen MMO to come out

there is no FUN in Aion, your mind is fooling you into liking it!

    1.  Played WoW for four years.  Loved Vanilla, but indifferent to BC, and dislike Wrath.  Moved on only cause it got boring, but by no means do I hate WoW.

    2. I am currently a lvl 39 Templar and a lvl 28 Ranger.  I have yet to have a single time where my Quest log was not 30/30.  I did MM 4 times, FT 6 times, TC 2 times.  I crafted and gathered a lot.   I have yet to grind a single level.  I would say 10% of my 39 levels came directly from either gathering or crafting.

    3. I'm not waiting for anything, just playing what I enjoy at the moment.

I don't resent that you don't like Aion.  Fine, move on.  I just understand why you have to characterize the game a certain way and then personally attack people who disagree with your characterization.

I dont' believe Aion is "grindy" or not any more than WoW (heroic grind, faction grind, pvp grind, arena grind, raid grind, dailies, etc.).

BECAUSE XFIRE NUMBERS SHOW IT AS THE 4th MOST PLAYED GAME IN THE WEST, AND IN THE EAST IT HAS 3.5M SUBS PROVEN BY IGN, AND BECAUSE THE RATING IN MMORPG.COM IS HIGHER THAN WOW'S! FUCK WOW YEAH, WOW IS AION'S COPYCAT BECAUSE THEY ARE COPYING THE PARTY FORMING SYSTEM FROM THE DREDGION!

  • SonikFlashSonikFlash Member UncommonPosts: 561

I wonder if we could have a constructive argument about a game.  The first post is dead on, if a sizeable amount of people like something an equally large amount of people will dislike it because either they believe what one of their friends said and are jaded, or because they simply like to annoy others.

I play it because I enjoy it.  I also play vanguard, darkfall, champions, eve, and wow, but because I like those games my opinion would be automatically forfeit if the masses on this website had their way.
