As much as I love Shadowbane, and as much as I think it's the best pvp game out there, the community is starting to dwindle, and if you haven't gotten started in it already, there are very limited options in terms of guilding.

On a side note, most R7's can destroy R4's without blinking an eye.  Easy.  It's almost twice the levels, what do you expect?

-on a side note to the side note, the game isn't about 1on1's.  Siegeing and groupwars are indeed the name of the game.  Even then, most people don't like R4's on their side unless they're considered "bait".

All very true. I've seen people turned away from PvP and sieges simply because of their levels, and even had it happen to me. If you're below R5 most people not of yout guild see you as PvP prey, and since Shadowbane doesn't give out any awards for killing players, most of them do it just to spite others and amuse themselves (not that there's anything wrong with that, but pure PVPing won't level you, EVER). And it's not skill-based, but rather depends on choosing the right powerups as you level; identical characters in every way buy looks are not only common place, but a plague in some areas. Once the fighting starts, it comes down to having the correct powers to boost yourself and hinder your opponent; if you do, you're gonna win (barring intervention), if you don't you're gonna be toast. My brother and one friend, who swear by this game, constantly build up and take down characters, looking for the perfect combinations to make PvP monsters, and from their chatter and the sites they visit I understand this is the norm. The RP is definitely missing from this MMORPG.

And yes, the community is really starting to suck these days.

This guy knows what hes talking about. Not so much PvP as it is GvG/NvN.

Anyways,DAoC is a good PvP/RvR game, they just released an expansion, and the community there is still good.

Seriously, give Vendetta online a try. It's a twitch-based space combat/trader sim. There are experience points and license levels and more expensive ships, but pilot skill is the most important thing. It's kinda like Escape Velocity 3D online. There are also multiplayer cap ships! ::::28:: Check out this player made video

The 8 hour free trial is definitely worth it.

You don't know what you are talking about. You get most of you skill and stat points at lower levels. You hardly get any at higher levels. So a Skilled R4 player can beat an unskilled  R7 player. And a skilled R5 or R6 player will beat an unskilled R7 every single time.

Just try that in DAOC. If someone is 10 levels higher than you, they will beat you every time, no matter how unskilled they are.

DAOC is a level based game.  Is it possible to kill someone 10 levels higher than you?  Yes, however it is extremely unlikely.  That is one of the reasons that have level specific battlegrounds.  That way you can PvP without having to deal with a level 30 versus a level 50.

    DAoC.

Enough said, best pvp out there.

DAoC is indeed fun, but the balance is so ridiculously unbalanced that it ruins a lot of the fun. If you play and wanna win many fights, make a stealther to kill mage classes. If you want to destroy everyone for the most part, choose a BD with an army of healing and fighting pets and nuke on the run BS. This gets kinda gay hehe. But it is fun at times too.

The most fun I've ever had with PvP is definately on the Darktide server of Asherons Call. But if you want graphics, and a bigger variety of classes then choose DAoC. If you want customization, and a skill based system over simply level based, then take Asherons Call, Darktide.

    Face it,

Eve-online has the best pvp-system ever build into mmorpg.
The game has been developed for pvp.

There are over 80 different ships ingame already. Everyone unique in its own way.
4 different weapon types. lasers, hybrids, projectiles and missiles. Again each and every type has its advantages and disadvantages. Then you have them catogorized in ship classes. Small, medium and large. And from every type there are about 30 different weapons. And ofcourse there is different ammo for each and every situation or combat setup.
Did i forget to mention there is electronic warfare as well?:)
Your ship is limited by its weapon slots so if you decide to build a very fast ship capable to warp jam people you will not be able to deliver much damage. But if you are smart you might find the perfect setup to be capable of this.
The possibilities and unique ship setups are endless.

Eve pvp system is unique and very well balalnced and it will defeatnely give you alot of adrenaline rushes. The combat system requires you to be smart, experienced and most of all have alot of balls.
    But , this is sci-fi.

if you are looking for fantasy combat, then daoc or guildwars might be what you need.
Unfortunately with most mmorpgs death has no consequences. So you wont get the adrenaline kick you so desperately need.

If your whole body is shaking seconds before you are engaging the enemy you will truely know what pvp is.

Its sounds like he would like Shadowbane the best to me. But I never liked it and from what people say it might be a pain to get to the level where it would be worth playing now.

DAoC RvR is fun but he was complaing about needing items to compete. You don't really need all the items you can still run around with the zerg and do your partand have fun. But anyone who starts his question with complaints about levels and items is probably one of those uptight whiners who if isn't happy if he isn't winning all the time and doesn't have the high end ToA items etc to have fun.

DAoC always get complaints from people who think this class or that class is too powerfull or that you need all the ToA items to have fun in RvR. I think they just need to play the class they picked if they think one is overpowered then by all means roll that class you will find the grass isn't always greener. People need to realize hey theres allot of people playing this game you are going to kill and be killed You should just live with it and worry about playing the best that you can rather than greifing over the time you got killed by someone who had bettter items or just plain outsmarted you.

    /rant off.

Have fun and thank you for playing.
