Advice for a potential new player please :)

Im currently looking at trying EvE and after spending a long time reading about it and being told about it, I feel like I am ready to hop into the action. Unlike most other people im not going to buy into the "but everyone is 6 years ahead" because I have read a lot about how people can fight in the lower teir ships (tech 1?) and still beat people in bigger ships with skill and tactics.

I personally would like to PvP as a pirate either solo going after single targets or as part of a small fleet. Its nothing to do with being anti-social etc, its just my playtimes will be sporadic at times, and if im able to fly solo then at least I know I won't be letting people down, or spending available playtime waiting for others who may let me down. I will happily jump into small battles if there is minimal waiting or im fortunate enough to be able to plan ahead for the occasion.

What I need to know is, can people give me some good pointers as to what skills to train and possibly what race/stats to aim for to get into the PvP action as fast as possible? I understand there will be some waiting around and ill make some money etc in that time, and if im able to afford to do so, ill quite happily blow some cash getting to grips with the PvP early on, even if it means losing several ships etc.

If anyone has any awesome advice, or by some miracle just happens to be a member of a corp into pirating who are willing to accept and teach a new player the intricacies of the game, I would be extremely grateful if you could help me out. Also, if anyone has one of those 21 day free trials available that would be nice as well. Im currently downloading the game and plan to sign up tomorow.

If you are are willing to send me a 21 day trial code, please just pm me and leave a polite note in the thread for others, so it doesnt get cluttered as im mainly concerned about the advice, the trial is less of an issue :P

My advice would be not to start as a pirate.

Join FW, Red vs Blue empire wars or live in low sec to get the ropes. Stay in frigates until you get very solid core skills, get PVP experience, grow up a bit and make up your mind for a ship you want to specialize in.

I would run several trials to accumulate some ISK and get the feel of different ships and play styles. Make Minmatar to get frigate experience(Rifter), make Gallente to get cruiser experience(Thorax).

Read stickies for new players, there is enough guides and info there.

PM me an email address for a 21-day invite and I will send you one, plus a little extra advice.

Solo PvP is hard to do for a true beginner. I would recommend a little group PvP first. Faction Warfare and Red vs Blue are both highly acceesible sources of empire PvP for beginners.

Minmatar and Gallante have the best T1 frigates and cruisers for the kind of activity you're thinking of. And probably the best T2 as well, come to think of it.

My advice is to find an outlet to 0.0 for pvp. Stay away from low sec pvp if you can. I have a perfect group of pilots that will be able to help you along the way. The only thing that is asked in return is that you fly with them. Join the channel UF-KKH and speak with some of the guys in there. If you have the money you can move down ASAP. As in money I mean isk to use for ships and books ect ect.. Check out the channel for more info.

UF-KKH is something a little different that you will not will find anywhere in EVE.

Ship wise you can pretty much fly anything you want. It would take a few months for perfect skills or close to perfect for almost any ship. The misconception of others is that 6 year players are more skilled is not true due to this. They can fly a host of different ships. But as far as any single ship, you, yourself can fly that same ship in a little amount of training time. I'd be willing to help ya out if you are willing to put the time in. Join UF-KKH and ask around.
