Crafting in EQII

eros84eros84 Member Posts: 16

I like crafting and selling stuff, so I was wondering, what is the crafting like on EQII? Is it like SWG or more like Guild Wars? I am trying to figure out what would be the better game for me...EQII or WoW. Since I havent been able to get into the beta on either of them I will have to go by what you lucky punks that are beta testing it say.

I'm gonna post the same question in the WoW forum see what the WoW ppl say also.

in my opnion its not going to be like either SWG or Guild Wars, i have played both of those, and i have seen/read a lot about the crafting in EQ2. there is a lot of info and screenshots here at the link i provided.

here is a qoute that stood out to me to help you maybe understand a bit better

The basic idea of trade skills is to be a system similar to the combat encounter system. One engages the encounter (in this case, the item to be created), and progresses with the player's skills while avoiding losses in quality. This includes the usage of skills during item creation to apply different techniques to increase the quality of the item. A really cool thing we found out was that there would be a system of Heroic Opportunities during the tradeskill encounter. Special events related to a player's profession will bring up a combat wheel, which will further enhance the item building process. All in all, much like combat?s damage vs. delay, trade encounters will be about success vs. failure, including critical successes and failures.

Creation of items will typically come from creation of multiple small components, and then combining them into the larger piece. This gives a chance to create items of many varying qualities and durability by each piece's respective quality or durability. Trade skill items, because of the time put into them, typically are a bit more powerful than regular items, and the most powerful items in the game will be combinations of quest, drop and crafting items.

the guides at these links are notable also http://eq2-artisan.com/Guide2.php

I am a level 20 Armorsmith and I personally think it's simply the best crafting idea ever done in a mmorpg hands down.

This is actually the first crafting I have ever done in a mmorpg, where I actually enjoy doing it and you don't have to wait until the very high end levels to make money and to make great quality weapons and armor

At lvl 15 I was making armor that made people freak out when I posted the stats...needless to say I have about 10 orders for full sets of various armor and arms every single day,

If you dont like sweating behind a forge in a basement or knitting pieces of fabric, then its not for you. I, on the other hand, welcome the fast pace of crafting rather than the fast pace of combat (yes you can get hurting crafting if you're not careful..which is very realistic...lol, how many of you guys had woodshop teachers who were missing a finger or a hand?)

    Hey man,

Since you have spent some serious time doing this, is the whole Tradeskill HO Wheel thing true?

there are no Tradeskill HO (not at level 1-20 at least)

However you do get tradeskill skills just like an Adventurer gets spells or combat skills and you would always have to keep your specific skills going to make a very good item, while at the same time keeping your eyes on a potential mishap. Here lemme explain.

Let's say you want to make a Chest plate that is so good, it'll will have almost magical properties woved into it. If you want that you have to make the best chest plate with is lvl 4 quality

level one quality = Crude Chest plate. You'll have the AC protection but you could probably get a better set from an NPC vendor

level two quality = Shaped Chest plate. This is a little better than a chest plate from an NPC and will have some better AC bonuses

level three quality = Forged Chest plate. This is a good piece of armor. You'll even have some magical attribute boosters inherited within the metal.

level four quality = Pristine Chest plate. This is the Duncan Macleod mother of all qualities. You can't make a better set...neither can a lvl 50 artisan..it'll be the same stats. This Armor will have the absolute best AC for its level and you're going to see some major magical qualities in this set.

By getting up to prestine you will have to use your two specific skills and keep them active the whole time (for armor you need the forge skills --> metallurgy and (i forget the other name)). However as you keep these skills active, mishaps will show up on your forging box.

let's say the armor got way too hot..then you will need to activate the "shapened metal" icon to prevent metal warping and you scolding yourself.

let's say one of the chainmail beads became defective and caused a reddish tint, then you'll need to click that appropriate skill icon...all the while keeping your two original skills constantly activate.
