So finally, after much complaint and pointing out that the entire xpac will be undermined by aoes and splash damage going right through walls, AV have sorted it out! all aoe and splash now had to be in LoS of the original colision point to hurt.
hooray!
this means that a small ship is viable because you arnt just a sitting duck waiting for 4 people to aoe kill everyone inside the hull from miles away. cool stuff indeed and very necessary.
this is also sexy because now you can defend walls without being at such a risk from aoe, a good shot from below can easily take a guy out but now it actually will have to hit and not pass through walls.so people will complain about wall hopping in sieges less and defend more. sieges can begin to become fun alongside the improved siege mechanics we are being promised.
along with some other changes to casting, magic will no longer be the aimless spam click nonevent that has gripped agon. you actually have to aim, and not in a 'I have magic that passes through anything with a large radius' kind of way but 'a good aoe shot can hit a whole bunch of people' way.
and melee suddnely becomes quite usefull in towns/cramped areas because you can finally put the terrain system to great use - if you are a better climber/evader/jumper you can get a real advantage over someone closing in on you.
overall I am very very excited about the new patch, pretty much every bone thrown to us is tasty meaty stuff (slot machines aside - wtf?!)

Although I don't play the game, I'm happy for the sake of its playerbase that such niggles are being sorted out.
