Underfoot, the 16th expansion to EverQuest, has been in closed beta testing for a little while now, and today we are glad to report that the NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) is no longer in effect!

Underfoot is set to launch on December 15th, 2009.  However, players who pre-order the game before December 1st, and complete all three Road to Underfoot events will be granted early access on December 8th, 2009. So hop to it!

Now that the NDA has dropped, what are your thoughts on Underfoot? Let us know in the comments below!

If players are having fun and needing new content, then yes, of course they should care.

I'd go back if it were free. For nostalgia. I'd love to run around again. Good memories. But I don't have the time to play another mmo.

I just with the people who actually play EQ currently would comment here.  LOL.  We have done all the commenting, and we are all either old, somewhat bitter or bored players who don't play now, or people who never played.  Sigh.

You can head over to the official EQ forums and see what people are saying. You don't have to wait for them to come here.

Against common misconcept, mmorpg.com isnt the lone center of all things mmorpg.

EQ players tend to keep to the official forums

WoW has had 2 expansions in 5 years. Everquest has had 16 expansions in 10 years. As long as Everquest is still cranking out expansions at >1 per year rate, WoW can never catch up. Assuming EQ went dark by the end of next year, WoW would need to stay around for another 40 years to release 16 expansions at their historic rate. The real question here is how long can an MMO last? We've seen bad ones fail and mediocre ones last for several years. How long can good ones go? We've already seen a 10-year anniversary for EQ. Can it go 20? 30? 50? Will my great-grandchildren play EQ? What about WoW?

Thing is, these games will need major overhauls in order to stay fresh as the years wear on. I have said before, if WoW really wants to bring in players that left for Aion, all they need is a graphical update and BAM! I can personally envision another few big ideas for expansions for WoW - graphical, and sandbox/player customisation stuff... if Blizzard, sorry, Activision-Blizzard really tried, they could be everything for everyone.

I am playing EVE and it's alright... level V skills are a bit much.

You all need to learn to spell.

EQ is the game Blizz devs played and it inspired them to make WoW. Pretty much everything that was awful about EQ got fixed in Wow. Taking forever to level, taking forever to make decent money, massive xp loss on death, corpse runs to retrieve items, unbalanced PVP, pathetic maps, completely unfriendly and harsh to new players, level 30+ creatures in level 5-15 zones, barely any class abilities for melee characters, trade skills either being outrageously expensive or worthless, multiple classes that couldn't solo, having to re-memorize spells each time after dying, ULTRA SLOW HP/MANA REGEN for years!... I could go on and on, but you get the picture. The Blizz Devs took a close look at all the craptastic parts of EQ and either changed or eliminated them in WoW, so EQs failures helped show them what not to do, so they could make a vastly superior game.

EQ was revolutionary when it launched. Now it's a nostalgia dinosaur. It's cute and nice they have another expansion, but EQ has served it's purpose - good entertainment when it was top dog, and inspiration for bigger and better things to come. I think at this point, EQ has done it all already, and it's just rehashing the same old same old, milking this ancient cow of an MMO to the last drop. MOOOOOO!

Heh, I think 'how long it lasts' will be directly related to the 'maximum' player Base - with a few factors of 'server costs' and 'bandwith per user' playing it's part in the longevity formula.

if indeed that 'is' true - or partialy true, and EQ with a Max subscriber base of 300k has lasted 10 years... then you could extrapolate, that WoW has the legs to last well into the next century -

but of course as we all know, Zombies are going to attack in 2012 and all MMO's will come to a screaching halt with the Advent of the Appocolypse - hence EQ will win the 'who lasted the most years' race against WoW.  if not for that little Hiccup - who konw's how long WoW would have continued polluting the barrens with Chuck Norris Chat.

I find it interesting that all the negatives listed about EQ are things they changed as early as expansion 7.  I agree, all those things were pains, but it really wasn't that bad.  In fact, for the most part, the times I had that were the most fun were when all those so called problems were endemic.

I love Blizzard's games except for WoW.  I really don't see the apeal.

I'm looking forward to the next Diablo they keep promiciing, I wonder how long it will be?  If not for all the problems on the Diablo 2 game with hacking and griefing, I'd still be playing, I imagine, even if it was incredibly repetitive.  LOL.
