Mage/DPS and Crafting

XmudderXmudder Member UncommonPosts: 14

I'm looking for a game that combines a good crafting system with a good mage DPS class.  Best I have found so far is EQ 2, but my old server is a ghost town and you really need to group to handle some encounters.  I don't mind grouping per say, but am sick of the time it takes to get a group together in most games.  Public quests a la War are fine.

I would also like a game with a good and varied crafting / gathering system, again like EQ 2.

So, for example, I like the Archmage class from War, but hate the crafting.  AoC lacks a good mage DPS class, as does LotR.  Vanguard annoys me - crafting and gathering take too many steps, and diplomacy seems silly to me.

I've considered ATitD, but it seems a little to pacifistic for me.  I'd also like a game like Eve where guilds can stake out their own territory, but would prefer to avoid RvR - I hate having to play 2 or 3 accounts just to see all of the content in each of the realms (and also risk being accused of spying).

Like I said, EQ 2 was the best I've found so far (love the guild hall), but I'm not ready to migrate servers or wait for a server merge to get people to group with / talk too.  And I have no idea if EQ next will even be a PC game, rumor is it will be console heavy.  Or if EQ 2 will follow the DDO model and go FtP in it's lower levels.  Either way, it has lost it's magic for me.

FtP or PtP both work, but I would need some pretty strong reccommendations to spend money on a game at this point.

Oh, yeah.  No FFA  PvP everywhere.  I hate gankers, griefers, and spawn point campers.  Some FFA PvP is fine, so long as I can choose to go there when I am ready and the risk is worth the reward.  One of my problems with Eve is its imbalance toward high sec griefing and low sec choke point camping.

And lose the mature bs.  I play games to have fun, not see blood, gore, and nudity splattered everywhere.  Sophisticated enough to scare off the kiddies, sure.  But you're just going to attract the Jr. High school crowd with T&A, Blood and Gore.

Hmm...  was this a rant or a lfg?  either way, anyone know a game that fits other than (maybe) Dawntide?

I'd look into DT. Just jump on IRC, talk about the game and someone will be bound to send you a beta key, granted you don't beg for one.

Plenty of player-run contests on the forums too.

Unfortunately, the beta should be called alpha though. Only the core game and very little fluff are there yet.
