Hi. I just finished the 2nd free weekend. I don't know if it was my build (martial arts) but the game seemed very difficult to solo in the canadian wilderness zone around lvls 10-12. I had HUGE problems with fighting a group of villains, having one run away, and then drawing aggro as I pursued.
1)I was a martial arts build. I assume ranged builds wouldn't have this problem.
2)Smoke bombs may have fixed this problem. I wasn't high enough to get them and the other things I wanted.
On a related problem, I used acrobatics as my travel power and also had a fair amount of trouble from drawing aggro as I traveled. It seems like a bad design if you can't maneuver around the zone without getting shot up.
And finally, if anybody wants to mention this to the devs. The dragon lunge was pretty F***ed up. About half the time I used it in a fight, I would end up jumping AWAY from my target. And then having to run back to the fight, while getting shot up.
And finally, even when nothing went wrong, taking down a team of equal level mobs seemed really hard. It was easy to die. Could have been my build.
On the whole, I was disappointed. It made me sad because I'd been a PnP Champions player since 1983 or so.

Acrobatics is usually recommended as being a secondary travel power (taken at level 35), although it works very well for while fighting. Its not so great as a pure travel power, unless you don't mind training mobs.
The lunge is working as intended. You have to be moving for the lunge to work as an "advance to target". The default is evade (i.e. the back flip away).
Did you have a passive defence power?
CO has very little in common with the PnP, which is a disappointment. I enjoy CO, but would have liked it even more if it was actually based on the PnP system.
Someone once suggested Cryptic don't actually play their own games and it would explain a great deal.
Acrobatics is a dangerous travel power, I love the power but it's really a pain in the ass to use whereas teleport makes the game trivial since you can disengage any fight you are losing.
The first thing you should pick up in your first few levels is an AoE attack for killing henchmen, the 2nd thing you should pick up around 10 or so is a defensive passive - regeneration will fix ANY build and is the best for leveling up. Unless you really know how the game works it can be hard without a defensive passive especially if you are melee or using Acrobatics to get around.
Also the mobs running away only happens if you are in a "group" even if it's just because 2 other people are very close by. It's a retarded system.. best thing to do is avoid other people or, for MA, get shuriken throw + chain kumai advantage to make it reel the target in.
The Dragon Lunge will flip backwards if you aren't moving, so you have to be moving/jumping when you hit it, it's really stupid setup because I don't know ANY occasion where a melee would want to slowly backflip 10 feet when all the mobs have ranged attacks and will just start shooting you instead of punching you. (btw dragon lunge had 0 cooldown in beta so you could spam the hell out of it, made melee really fun because you could always get to the mob you want to fight!)
It's one of the inner issue of the game :
- For people who read forums, learn about builds and search for the few OP powers, the game is too easy.
- For the others who just start playing, take what sounds cool and end up with a subpar build, the game is indeed too hard.
There are huge differences in terms of efficiency among the different toons you can build in this game. But as some people above said, the very first thing to do is to take a defensive passive asap (and Regeneration is a good choice). Also an enhanced block to improve your survivability even more (something like Force Shield with the advantage is great for the mana too). Try to respec to get those two, and you'll prolly find the canada trivial

Well, at least that part is true to the Hero system.
Thanks. I don't have a paying account but will remember this advice if I get the game.
