Read the small print. When you reactivate an account there is now a $5 registraition fee. Fir a game you have allready registered  before. What BS

"Your card will be automatically charged $14.95 for every month of game time until you change your payment method or cancel your account. You will be charged an additional $5.00 registration fee with your first payment, which will not be charged again. Your account will be activated immediately"

Don't leave in the first place. Problem solved.

  • wolffinwolffin Member UncommonPosts: 193

That was an ignorant reply. People have to cancel accounts for various reasons all the time.

Not to mention according to the wording anytime you change your billing method you will have to pay the registration fee again.

Game time cards should circumvent this problem if I recall correctly.

That still doesn't make it any less of a pointless or BS charge. Is CCP in the cell phone business now?

They are still getting you as they cost 5 dollars more than buying a regular sub in the long run will actually cost more as you would pay the extra 5 every two months via gtcs.

that $5 charge is a bullshit charge. I was about to reactivate my account until I saw this. I have to pay 20 bucks for my first month to reactivate my account when I had to cancel my account to save money as I was buying a house....sorry CCP, not being punished for cancelling a game due to financial reasons.

  • XenorusXenorus Member Posts: 37

Im pretty sure the $5 fee only applies to NEW accounts, but im not 100% sure on it so do not qoute me. You could try going through the paypal option to see exactly what they are going to charge you as it will be spelt out on paypal before you confirm. I've renewed mine recently via a timecode and there were no lost days or anything else as a result of any charges.

    Cost/month* Total cost*

    1-month-plan $ 14.95 $ 14.95

Creating a CD-less account and a subscription to EVE - Online (including 30 days of game time) = €19.95

Thats whats listed in the terms and conditions, so there is a $5 extra when creating a new account, which is what I think you are seeing.

An ignorant reply to an ignorant thread. Any personal reasons you had for un-subbing your accounts have nothing to with CCP and I don't see any problem whatsoever with such a miniscule charge for making sure your account is still there if and when you decided to resub.

Edit: After reading the post above me I would like to see a link confirming what you are saying. For curiosities sake.

This is what I thought he meant at first, because I know they used to charge like $15 or so for the client when you upgraded from trial to full years ago. But the wording is very vague and there seems to be a number of posts cropping up about it. Anyone actually reupped since this showed up, and if so, what happened?

When doing a paypal transaction, it shows that I will be billed 14.95.  With this being said, it appears that the 5 dollar registration is only for NEW accounts but it still lists it for reactivating accounts.  Thanks for getting me all upset and shit for nothing.

  • XenorusXenorus Member Posts: 37

People have every right to contest additional charges and costs that they don't think are fair. Its what keeps companies in check and stops them increasing prices across the board. If everyone started happily paying a $5 upon reactivation, it could become a $10 fee, or since people are willing to empty additional money on a product there could be a fee increase.

People that blindy accept any additional or unexpected cost give the ok to companies to increase prices, the same way people who accept poor quality products give companies the go ahead to continue selling them. Also anyone who says "CCP deserve it for all the extra hard work they put into the game recently" is wrong. Cos the developers who put in the work don't get a penny of the additional cash, they get the same wage regardless, and some corporate face gets the additional money.

Charging 5$ is not bank breaking and they are well within their rights to do it. If not one single other MMO charges a reactivation fee I will be very suprised. I have yet to see this confirmed and if it is I will not be in the least suprised at CCP nor do I see it as a point of complaint to anyone but the most bitter.

"It's ok, they abuse me because they really love me :3" <- WTF is this about? Somebody have boundary issues with your "special place" at some point?

The actual wording says that the "first payment" will be charged a $5 fee. The problem with that is its crazy vague as you don't know if its referring to the first payment of the account, or the first payment of the subscription. Regardless, at least CCP hasn't gone to the dark side yet.

It's about you and your apparent battered wife syndrome for companies that don't give a shit about you. $5 regardless of how "reasonable" you think it is is still completely unnecessary and would be them taking advantage of you, but you still feel the unrelenting need to white knight how great CCP and their wonderous decision is You're the customer, they're the company, how can you make sense of defending them making an arbitrary money grab? There is no logical reason to defend this.  Oh, and just try to find one MMO with a "registration fee" each time you resub, it's not going to happen.

I dont know of any company - not even SOE, that charges a registration fee to reactivate lapsed accounts, it would be a bit of a dissuader, which is something that most companies would try to avoid, actually... im not that sure about SOE

The worst SOE does today is their "Station Players" service (or whatever its called) where they charge you monthly for what has become basic things in most MMOs like leaderboards and an armory-like page. The worst thing they've ever done was when they essentially diverted all customer support from the regular servers to a new "premium server" and started charging people $30 a month (back when the normal fee was $9.99) for "premium customer service" and various other things that amounted to thinly veiled RMT. Fortunately that only lasted about a month or two before it got cut for lack of interest. I can only wonder why...

I'm sorry, had we just not come to the conclusion that they don't charge for reactivating accounts? Rant on about corporate fatcats and greed all you want dear, I still don't see any problem with the policy of a reactivation charge.

I must admit while reading your post I got the image in my head of a gigantic ogre in a spacesuit floating around with wads of cash, it raised a little chuckle.

Put simply, companies ARE well within their rights to charge what they want when they want for whatever they want. People in here should learn to respect that, although maybe not follow the lead of others and downright demand they are charged more by the lords and masters of the gamespace.

However people who feel the need to defence whatever meagre charge may be disputed have to accept that comsumers other than themselves are well within the rights to refuse to pay said fee.

Its a depressing time when many people always say "Well vote with your wallet if you do not like it" or "nobody is forcing you to play if you don't like it" and when someone says "I do not like this charge" and exercises their right to vote with their wallet they are publically attacked and slated for being cheap.

Yes, the charge is ONLY for NEW accounts, yes CCP could charge it in the way the OP thought it meant, hell CCP could charge £100 a month for the game, if your fine with that, its awesome, but respect the fact others will not be and chose (in my opinion the right choice) to say "no thanks."

Just as an addition, I worked in technical support for Hewlett Packard for 2 years, on their top level CAD and Graphics Printers (Designjet Range if anyone cares) and in that time, I never got a call from a customer going "Hey do you know what, you guys should charge more for the printers and ink, and more for fixing them too cos they are soooooo awesome"

I would honestly like people on here to take a quick look back on pruchases etc they made where they said the the sales assistant "Can I pay £5/$5 more for this becuase I think its great"

Yeah it's a one time fee you don't have to pay  to reactivate an account that has already payed the initial start up cost.

This has been covered in an eerily similar conversation on the official boards: www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp

I don't hold any illusions that an official response from a GM, clarifying that you do not get charged an extra $5 for reactivating, will actually end the conversation, but there it is at least.

That's strange I just used paypal to reactivate my sub and was only charged 14.95.

I see no extra fee on my Visa statement.

I know you have to pay 19.95 the first month as a new account but I have never in my three years playing on and off seen a extra 5$ charge.
