Hey all my 1st post in forums woohoo!!

As for a star trek fan I was hoping this game would be good but after reading all your comments, I will be waiting to play the beta before buying the game as I did with Aion which sucked big-time so I passed...

I could care less about wheather the game is instanced or not...

The 2 things I do care about are...

Stopping the autobot Gold-farmers which prevent you from playing...

And auction-house based economy where players can jack up prices and ruin the game for those who dont use that part of the game...

With that said, I hope to see you in January beta and lets all see what we get...

This game is Pirates of the Burning Sea in space. Looks like it was made by them as well. They'll have to give a way a ton of stuff because the actual game has nothing going for it other than the IP. Get ready for King of the Tribble PvP just like the awe inspiring pvp CO had.

to be honest, i dont see any other way to make a 3rd person pespective version of space battles...

many spce games have used similar quadrant 'armour' / weapons, and flight controls.

PotBS has some of the same features when it comes to space battle,  like what i mentioned above, but thats where the similarities end.

i'l wait and see before slamming a copy sticker on a game

Pirates actually has a very nicely setup ship battle system in place . people are still actively playing it and enjoying fleet battles during pvp. If they took a similliar approach to the ship based combat in STO i certainly dont call it a bad move so long as its done properly it will make the ship combat enjoyable.

    Waiting For: FF14,Guild Wars2
    RIP: Tabula Rasa&Hellgate:London(online)
    Playing:Fallen Earth&Guild Wars& Dragon Age

So... are you still playing PotBS?

Have a look at the PotBS forum here... and the official forum too.

    Ghost Towns.

The fact is that (the vast majority of) people didn't like it.  The Fanbois were some of the first to bail.

PotBS has got in the MMORPG.com news section a couple of times in the last month and has failed to generate a dozen replies.

No-one (who wants to play MMOs) is interested in that style of heavily instanced game.

If STO is set up the same way as PotBS then history says it will fail.

    Are you still playing PotBS?

Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.

i hope in from time to time yes. ghost town as it may be in your words i still see players in each port i stop by, still port battles going on each day along with skirmishes, a friendly society that i joined for a bit of social interaction despite being the loner i am always has members on. So from my view population is fine as i never see total and complete silence through the chat channels whenever i log in.

U cant say a game heavily focused on instances is going to bomb out due to instances alone. Guild wars has a very heavily instanced setup yet that game is also still constantly full of players whenever i log in.

I merely pointed out that as far as how the ship combat goes(no where did i mention instancing) that there was something enjoyable in the ship based combat that PotBS had and that based on some of the dev interviews for STO that they were i think(correct me if im wrong someone) using a system similiar to that in STO's ship combat as well. Ive talked to several who enjoyed that combat setup quite a bit on PotBS.

    I was careful to say:

"No-one (who wants to play MMOs) is interested in that style of heavily instanced game."

And that's the kicker.  There are people who like this sort of game and don't mind the instances.

But these people are playing for the 'story'.  They play to max level, 'finish' the game and then quit.

And heavily instanced 'story' games tend to encourage that.

    That's fine.

That's what single player games do.

But there is the thing - this is supposed to be an MMO?

And so, the game box retails at about half the cost of a SP game and relies on ongoing subs to make up the difference?  (About 3 months of subscription)

The heavily instanced story driven design doesn't support that.

So, from the developers point of view - why not make the game a single player game?

And that helps everyone because gamers get a game they can play at their own pace and the IP for an MMO is not tied up with what essentially a Single Player Game with an Online Multi-player functionality.

Again... yeah it was 'fun'.  But short term fun.  MMOs need long term fun to survive.
