OMG

This game is so average.  It's your everyday MMORPG.  Okay, the leveling is pretty quick, but the combat is right-click, push a special attack, wait....., kill or be killed, loot or corpse run, rinse and repeat.  Well, I just started in the stress test and got to level 10, maybe it will get better once I get more powerful, but right now it's just an OK game.

There is a very well written review on this very web site.  It says that it doesn't bring anything to the table but what it does, it does best.

Read the review and you will understand what I mean.

To the OP, yes, it would have been nice to hear a little more about what you did and didn't like, but I will keep it short and sweet as well.

I've read the mmorpg.com review before, and it really does hit the nail on the head with alot of what was written.  The last paragraph sums it up vert nicely too.

I just hit 10th level as well and it really is just an OK game to me also.  Being a long time EQ player, it seems to vastly improve on alot of things EQ did wrong or made very cumbersome to play.  I'm playing this game and enjoying the exploration of it alot because I'm not looking at any internet resources on how to make my character the perfect "recipe" of uber, or a step by step list of instructions on how to complete quests, etc...  But again, in the end, it's just a really shiny, neat and polished EQ clone.  That's not a BAD thing, it's just that me personally am looking for something different.

I will be checking out EQ2 as well and wrote in another post that I would be leaning towards playing that over WoW.  Who knows, maybe EQ2 will give me the same kind of feeling that this does.

WoW is definitely not a horrible game and many people will find it fun.  Me on the oter hand, I found much more fun playing Guild Wars because it seems to be doing something slightly different than the rest.  Similar to Planetside in a fantasy realm, but not quite image  Much more stategy and actual thinking involved in the fights.  Win or lose, it's usually an exciting battle.

So I can't really say anything overly negative about WoW other than "been there, done that."

Cool, but what about the Horde VS Alliance warfare? EQ never had anything like this and the whole warcraft worls is baased on this premise.  I am hoping this adds the extra zing I always wanted.  Hoping somewhere inbetween SHadowbane and EQ is where WoW falls.

Here's hoping.  just 2 cents worth maybe?

Unfortunately I can't comment on this yet other than every once in a while on some warfare channel I see a message something like "Zone XXXX is under attack".  Not sure what this means yet, but I'm sure I'll find out soon enough. image

WOW is a much more friendly game to those who want to play a more casual game style then EQ ever was. Beta testers were actually mad at Blizzard because leveling is so easy and because if you want you can go solo for a while. Those two items make a game much more enjoyable for casual game style, which is what you seem to want.

Clicking on mobs and doing X, Y and Z to kill them is part of all RPG's. So it does get old. However the tactics that are involved once you start doing the harder instances in WOW do change thing a bit. Of course you point, click, etc still however how else could you do combat on a computer?

You stated you liked Guildwars. I also greatly enjoy it and am totally puzzled how you could like Guildwars with the strong pvp system and then prefer no pvp with EQ2 over what WOW is going to have. There is a huge difference between what WOW will offer and what EQ2 will offer. WOW has consentual pvp on a large scale, EQ2 does not.

EQ never had anything like the Horde vs Alliance warfare? All this Horde vs Alliance stuff is is an oversimplified version of what EQ had. Freeport's guards were half corrupted, and Freeport itself had an underbelly where eveil persons could come and go as they pleased. Same with Qeynos. Neriak and Ogg were more or less evil only, though neutrals could walk through with relatively few glares, providing that you hadn't been picking on any of the ogre's buddies. Evil races could roam the moon without fear of retribution, but I pity the fool who turns into a wolf (Druids could change into wolves) in Mons Setalis. The guards would be on yo' candy arse in no time. On top of all this, if you were an 'evil' race, but you didn't worship an evil god, you could kill the right mobs and work on your faction, until you were popular enough with the good guys to enter their town without being attacked. Yes, I have seen Ogres in Kelethin.

In any case, before you claim that this game didn't have this or that, be sure you've done your homework, as there's always someone who knows more.

Personally, I'll be disappointed if all the WoW faction system is Horde and Alliance. I liked levelling up on the Freeport guards, then going shopping there.
