Aion seems to be a very popular MMORPG with best selling opening sales this year, but yet I don't see any real marketing for it. You barely even see news about it on mmorpg.com. Wonder why that is?

They rarely marketed the game. They didn't invest much into it either. They aimed for the #2 in the west and that's what they have. Best of 2009 but far from one of the greatest. It has the best pvp at the moment and worth playing while waiting for their (2010 vision) or any other mmos coming soon.
The game had an incredible amount of hype before it launched and sold a huge amount of copies. Almost as much as WAR and AoC did. It's the same story repeating itself, and it's doubtful NCSoft will do anything to correct its mistakes before it's too late.
