Although to break that newbie barrier it might be interesting if CCP gave players a newbie package when the game was converted from trial that would allow someone to automatically gain a list of low level skills to quicken that entry into the deeper levels of the game. Say a month or two worth of training.

Umm... you already start now with a bit less than a million SP and get double XP for about a month (or so, IIRC it's up to 1.7m SP), so basically they already get what you demand. The skill list you get when starting a new character is also much more impressive than it was 5 years ago.

I recently started another account, so my info is pretty current.

You start with 50k SP with double training rate till 1.6M SP.

Really? Seemed to be more... but then I'm used to waiting for 30+ days on a skill, so my vision might be skewed. Anyway, 1.6m SP is already something you can work with, provided you don't dump them into pointless crap, and you can get there within a month easily. If you focus on a (reachable, be sensible, you won't fly carriers in that time) goal, you can reach it.

If you do the tutorial mission arcs you will get exactly this, plus, you know, a tutorial in how to actually apply those skills. And a bunch of ISK. And some ships.

It's never too late to start, it just takes time and you need to focus your training on becoming proficient in one area first and then branching out into different areas.

I started this game a little over two years ago.  Back then it was actually harder to get started than it is now - I started with more raw SP but 3/4 of them were in skills I'd never use again, my attributes were completely unbalanced (and there was no way to fix it later), and the tutorial was next to useless.

In addition to all the crap people said then that they still say today - "You'll never catch up", "0.0 is controlled by static entities", etc, all of which has proved to be untrue as time has gone by.

I've taken two breaks, I always come back because EvE remains the only non-themepark MMO that's worth a shit.  Ambulation would be nice but being a spaceship is OK too.

I'll direct you to an old post of mine here.

Ahh thats good to know. Wasnt really a demand but more of a would be nice kind of thing. I was thinking of starting up a trial account again...this time I think I will actually convert. The game has come along to the point I think I would be interested in playing it and there is absolutely nothing else out there atm that is in any way interesting.

As for the skill list I can definately see that part. I have tried the 14 day trials 3 times over about 4 years and I can see the changes for sure.
