How do the specializations work?

Well I have been playing now the last few days(on a month old account) and not really seen any mention on how the specializations actually work? I found them in-game I believe(the spell/melee/archery upgrade tabs), but don't get exactly what blocks out what. If I am mainly going archer melee, am I able to get skills for both archery and one for melee? Or am I limited to one or the other? Or is it just you can pick one skill in each category? Thanks for any tips!

if you are talking about those "destroyer" from melee and such ,i think you can pick 1 from melee and 1 from archery and they stack.

Those specialization used on top of your regular skills.

They just cost gold and after you buy them the effect is  immediately available.

They exist for magic, melee and archery.

Magic are effects bought for certain spells that buff up their speed, damage or allow jump casting etc.

You can pick 2 specializations from 2 different groups for melee.

1) sidestep or double-jump

2) one of the other melee specializations.

Melee specs offer you positive effects but putting a negative effect as cost on you. Mostly it is a percentage of mana penalty that stacks together except the specs 'Indistructible' and  'Destroyer'  which dont let you use any elemental, arcane or necromancy magic schools.

You can pick only one archery spec from the available specs right now.

The archery working similar like the melee ones. Here is it Mage-Hunter or Mage-killer that opts you out of high magic if choosen.

 The effect for magic specs appears while using the updated spells, the effect for mellee and archery specs appears while equiping a melee weapon or a bow for the archery ones.

The active specs stack their benefits but also the costs.
