Hello darkfall players.
I am thinking of trying this game purely because its different from everything that i have played before. Played WOW AION WAR EQ2 AOC blah blah. I dont mind PVP but i hate been constantly ganked like in AOC and some respects EQ2. It just ruins my playing experience. So my question is ganking rampant in this game?
Cheers.

In Darkfall you get mostly ganked because of the valuables on you and is nothing personally
hope it helps.

you will be ganked alot in DF if you play it alone.
try to join a guild, in the beginning you'll need support to deal with the "gankers"
I haven't got ganked in days - low skilled noob in human lands.
There are some common sense rules that you will need to follow and then even when you do get ganked it does not matter much.
I don't think you understand what Darkfall is.
Free For All Full Loot PVP
Ganking is pretty much the focus of the game. BUT, it's done in a different way and it really isn't as bad if you play on a WoW PVP Server where a lvl 80 just keeps killing you over and over and over and over and over for no reason at all when you're lvl 20. Usually, when you get ganked, you can't go back to where you were for awhile and most of the time that player has long ago left.
It's really not as bad as you would think, but the focus of the game is PVP (right now) and it does exist. Unless you're one of those QQers where if someone is around you skill level and they beat you they are a dirty ganker....... no you just suck. lol
Just don't play Alfar. W/e you do, don't play Alfar if you're afraid of getting ganked.

Tip from a DF newbie: Avoid main roads as much as possible when traveling long distances if you don't feel prepared to defend yourself, and keep anything of value in your bank that you don't absolutely need with you while traveling.
Learned that the hard way while trying to get to my clan's city all the way on the East side of Agon, from Leafhelm, which is all the way on the West side. Got a little under halfway, running along the road, feeling all safe... and then got killed by some dude with a bow.
Decided to make the trek again tonight and, about 1.5 hours later, on foot - I made a lot of detours and stopped to hide from potential ganks (which was actually pretty tense) - I arrived and then immediately bound myself to the clan stone. Next time I do a trip like that, it's on a mount.... while still avoiding main roads as much as possible.
As far as being ganked a lot... Well, I've been ganked once, as I described. I avoided potential would-be gankers a second time by hiding in time. That said, it *is* an open PvP MMO so... you should always be wary of potential danger.
Some of the mobs can be a right pain in the ass too, heheh.

You will never see the same kind of grieving in DF as you see in level based games. One reason is the size of the game world in DF. You can play for hours and not have a problem. It also depends on where and how you play. If you group up, it is lesslikely you will get ganked. If you are on your own. Just get used to looking around for other players. If you have a problem in an area, there are many places you could move to in the game to get away from a PKer.
The game is a very different experience than most MMO's. A red PKer is out to make money off of players. That is a normal way to play this game. You will get killed. You will loose everything and get pissed. It happens to everyone. But just by playing the game, you will have a lot in the bank as back up. So getting killed isn't the end of the world. Just bank often, watch your back, make friends and you will be fine.
How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them?

Just to reiterate what has been said,
Darkfall is Open PvP and full loot, ganking WILL happen and you WILL gank others. I find the game to run in circles, as in, I may be ganked but then at some point ill do the gank or come across a loaded players tombstone, it all works out.
I played EQ2 pvp server up until level 40 and AoC pvp server as well and it is MUCH different!
In those games people seemed to think that they had to trash talk you constantly win or lose and would often bind camp you for no reason but to cause you grief. I really can no explain it (perhaps "real" pvp players are in DF) but I have found the ganking to be fine in DF.
I have only been ganked a few times and every time it happened and the moved on. Once there was two reds who kept killing noobs at goblins but they also were not looting anyones tombstones and were on there for a little bit before moving on.
Also if you have reds, or a ganker in a populated area, you can expect a force to assemble quickly.
Case in point there were two Alfar gankers who wiped out people at orcs, within 5 minutes there was around 8 people gathered who chased them down, killed one who then lost all their nice loot and one escaped with his tail between his legs.
In Darkfall you can also use sound and the environment to your advantage. In AoC if someone wanted you dead, all you could do was run forever and hope they got bored or you made it to some guards or whatever in Darkfall you can run and hide behind rocks, trees, all kinds of things and use positional audio and crouch in your favor to escape.
It is a very different experience but you must come into the game willing to accept that you will be ganked, you will lose your stuff but that "kara" is very strong on DF so jus have fun, it comes back around and remember it is a game so dont get attached to pixels and nerd rage.
-- OH and BANK OFTEN!! Do not be that guy who keeps forgetting to bank and then rage quits when he is ganked and loses 500 gold or was harvesting for so long that he can hardly move and then rage quits because someone ganked him and took his 4 hours worth of lumber. You need to use your head, really if you use your noggin you will do OK, can no auto pilot and let the bumper rails keep you on track like in a normal mmo.

If you love pvp youll love this game, take your bumps like everyone else learn the ropes. Bank often. I just started and joined a great clan and had a blast running with them tonight. There is lessing ganking in numbers as well. But its darkfall it happens and happens in other online games to.
Yes you will get ganked. It's part of the game and always will be, you will never find a game (sandbox) where there isn't someone ganking lowbies. If you can handle being ganked once in awhile then this game is extremely fun.
Just make sure you bank after clearing one node if harvesting, and if you are pveing bank often, after 100-200 gold gained, that way if you do get ganked you havent lost a lot. There are plenty of easy mobs across the map, just find one that isnt in a crowded noob zone, where the gankers like to come by.
Find a clan. Clans help with everything you need. From my experiences the community is well above most mmos, in helping new players.
P.S. if you roll Ork, look for black ork assasins, its an all ork clan, and they have gone way above normal expectations in helping new players and people in general.

It's quite a bit like EQ2, except running away usually doesn't work unless you are already on a mount.
If it's dark or you have some cover you can get away and hide if you break LoS.
Is it even possible to gank in games like DF, PS, Eve or any pure pvp mmo? Isn't killing the enemy by any means necassary the object of the game? Surely thats just called winning.

For some, maybe. I very much prefer PVP with consequence and challenge. Simply camping newbie spots for lulz is not exactly the best example of PVP, because most of the time the target doesn't even have a fighting (or running) chance.
I was ganked 6 times, so far. 3 of those were racial enemies, so, I'm ok with that. But 3 of them were my fellow Mirdain. Unprovoked and totally pointless for those who killed me, because I was in transit, wearing just some pieces of Cloth Armor, and giving them a wide berth. They were blue prior to the attack.
If we were in a place of limited resources, I would understand that. But 2 times we were in the middle of nothing, and once near a newbie Goblin spot.
I'm not very satisfied with the whole racial/reputation system. Looks very easy to do things around it. You can follow a discussion about it in the Official Forum. There are some interesting points, there.

Just to comment on being ganked by your own race, they may have wanted to go RED for a specific reason....
I am not a ganker type of my own kind, enemy race in my lands, DIEEEEE! However, if I went red, I could bindstone recall to my clan city since being red meant I could not enter my racial city. This saves me a ton of travel time....sooo I did go and gank a newb at goblins. I did not loot him, just killed him real quick and ported to my clan city.
Reds who farm their own kind though, yea there should be stricter punishments for reds, fairly lax right now and I would like to see more purpose to it rather then no racial cities and having to spend a bit of time killing another red to go blue again.
