So i heard there was going to be a big announcement today and it was going to most likely include open beta and release details so far seems like nothing like that has happened, so did i get some false information and should stop refreshing the homepage every 5 mins, or is patience a virtue lol?

Henrik said on irc that there is some big news and that we should wait until atleast monday. The devs also say that what they say in irc is subject to change and its not official info until they post it on the forums or in a news announcement. This was in responste so people bombarding them with questions about open beta and the done-ness of the game. Thsi si also where he said that the patch on thursday would be huge.

Normally patches release on monday but they said its bigger and they will need to release it on thursday, so whatever announcement thay have they will prolly be tight lipped for a few days into the week. We will most likely hear what is going on sometime before the latest patch or at the same time.
