Reactions are coming to the surface....

crimsonmidcrimsonmid Member Posts: 140

Once upon a time (not that long ago) Alganon fanbois were calling us haters and trolls, simply because we were critisising all the negative aspects of the game (you all know what they are) and thus being the "bad" guys.  But now as the days pass, more and more problems arise and negative reactions are coming to the surface. This is a thread from the official forums:

http://alganon.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4074

Isn't this part we should say : WE TOLD YOU SO?

What saddens me is the fact that some people are still willing to pay for unfinished betas and this is becoming a growing trend in the mmo industry. Too bad.

P.S. I wanted to make this post in the official forums but they banned me when i asked for the citations of the quotes on the soft launch video. Talking about freedom of speech.

  • Word of mouth and type of finger spreads pretty damn fast so its time to crap or get off the pot, if you know what i mean.

    FIX THE CRAP ALREADY.

    That sentence is awesome LOL

You are absolutely correct - these problems are unacceptable. Our team has been working around the clock to correct them (including throughout the weekend). What happened is a patch went out last week that affected the entire server architecture negatively, and in correcting that problem, we found other points of failure. We actually fixed all the rubber banding issues already, but made so many changes we couldn't issue a simple hotfix, so we will be patching in full tomorrow. We apologize for these issues, and they will be corrected tomorrow.

Quoted directly from the official responce to the thread.

Personally I would argue that it was completely unaccptable to LAUNCH with those sorts of issues. Its not like they cropped up at last second. They have been there all throughout beta.

I think most of the people playing realise that alganon has serious issues. But when you think your in love you can overlook a heck of a lot.

Right now the game is garbage, even the people playing are admitting that to some degree or another. I think it always will be, those playing it are hoping they can support the Devs and that like a few games before it Alganon can rise up out of its craptastic state and become somthing worthwhile.

Its possible it will. But at this point David Allen and QoL are still knee deep in excrement.

    Dem hibbies! Dey be wrong!

There are indeed problems, but to my own surprise I sort of like the game so far. The study idea is nice and the atmosphere the world has is also decent. Yes they copied the UI from WoW, good I say since it is familiar to almost everyone but the more I play the less like it feels like a  WoW-clone.

Anyway, I bought the game just a couple of days ago and so far I'm mildly impressed, but maybe that is due to low expectations? Still so far so good.

Not to be an ass, but I am, so I will ask the obvious. How is it not a wow clone? All you do is quest, and level, with a talent tree system stolen right from WoW. The study system is awful, and will takes years to get to respectable levels. But, you say it feels less like a WoW-Clone, how so? What is there to do that is different from anything you can do in WoW -- except PvP and run dungeons.

You either, level by killing mobs or questing.

You can craft, or gather mats.

You can sell stuff on the AH.

You can group but there is nothing to do while grouped.

The whole "Dawning" is a mini AQ opening ripoff in itself.

So, I need to know, just for once -- what is so un-WoW-like?

The hype/fanboy phase has gone and now the real game is begining to shine and well people are noticing. I was kinda surprised when some of them said they try to play very little just so they don't have to deal with all the frustrations? really is that what entertainment has come to?

QOL needs to get there act together or even the little players they have are gonna be soon gone...

I read that thread and i started laughing. It seems they don't know what "local testing" is XD. I thought qol was bad before but jesus, not even having some local server set up in their studios to test things on and just trying it on the live server w/o any tests what so ever? They have to be the dumbest company i've ever seen. Not everyone, since the programmers, artists, and designers are just doing what they're told to do. I'm talking about the management especially that david fellow, i can't imagine that you would honestly run a game suhc as this and NOT have a test server. I mean jesus christ, could they be more of a dumb company?

Actually they do have a test server for players but i guess you meant internal testing, like i stated alot of times all the guys that are currently playing are really paying beta customers.

  • 133794m3r133794m3r Member Posts: 173

Well yes, i know it's still technically a beta game but they're making them pay for it month by month. But yes an internal test server should be a must. I've never heard of a company not doing internal testing before sending it live.

This game seems to have no fanbois whatsoever, which is worrying in itself.

I must have a selective memory as well because i dont recall saying anything about fanbois on this forum. I was actually reffering to the official forums. Anyways.

It just seems wrong to bash the game. It is another example of even when trying to clone another MMO - for all the right reasons - the game is prematurely released and offers very little to make it stand out in the crowd.

    F2P in Q1 2010. Wait for it.

No worries, my skin is thick enough. I was mainly reffering to the feel to the world. As far as game mechanics go it is clearly a rip off of WoW but with some small inventions of its own, like the study system...love it or hate it.

The rubber banding is supposed to be fixed today, haven't checked yet. I might be positive due to the fact that I actually liked WoW but didn't like the setting, this is, as you say, very much WoW but with a setting I like better. We will see how it will develop, I must say I am surprised I did expect the next David Allen game to be completely different to this!

Man, I hate to say this but I won a beta pass from here and have only played once after they fix the Eula agreement click bug.

I wanna like this game and hope they get it together (so I can leave WOW) but I don't wanna get frustrated and not even give the game a full try at launch (due to beta leaving a bad taste in my mouth). I hope they get this game together and put the other races in as playeable (tired of games not releaseing more than one or two races).

Hopefully, they will get their acts together before release date.

  • release date ? the game was released on Dec 1st.

And people overthere are calling people over here haters and trolls? Well, that is no surprise. The forums on mmorpg.com have a bad reputation in many gaming communities. I wonder why?

  • It really doesn't matter who says what. Everyone is entitle to their opinions. Me personally ? I just take this as free entertainment. Either Alganon will raise from ashes or just ...becomes ashes..Either way is fun  :)

To start, I'm not defending this game. Haven't played it, and don't intend to anytime soon. I said the same about WoW when it launched too. I ended up getting it roughly a year ago and it's a good game now. I may try this one too eventually.

But all that stuff you listed about WoW, is stuff found in almost every MMO, even before WoW! Now, if you want to say it ripped off the UI, that is more obvious and acceptible, but the game mechanics, art style, races, etc...please.

Well wow at launch was a lot and i mean a lot more polish than this one, sure wow had some major server issue but well with 200k sold box just the first day, well this can do some heavy load on a server. For me is clear this game is a plain ripped off in almost every aspects but for the worst..

Actually i do remember some peeps coming here and calling us trolls but can't remember names, so yeh i don't wanna call names and then later remember that name was from a player who actually helped me out. Meh was prolly wraithone though...

As you might see, I do play Eve...anyway name ONE game that does not steal from other games? What makes this game looks more like a WoW clone than all the othe clones is probably the UI which is more or less copied straight over. Anyway if you take ingredients from different games and put in another that is no more stealing than everyone else does in this business, and is exactly what WoW did, don't come here and say that WoW was not an Everquest clone (I do miss my old EQ, sob sob).

Still, I want to wait a month or so to judge this game, hard to judge after a few days of playing.
