WoW hater who came to the MMORPG genre after WoW, are destroying the Genre, not Blizzard

Seems to me that WoW haters that were new to the genre from games newer then WoW, have moved on into newer and newer games' fan base.

This wouldnt be such a impact, if they had little effect on the Developer's mind set. But what I have notice is that, Many Developers are trying to make games to appel to these crouds.

And Many of these haters, strongly believe that anything that is in WoW, was created By Blizzard, so they hate on anything Similar to be added to new games, simply because WoW has it.

Today alone, I ran into somebody that said they hated Paladins, because WoW made it. What kind of bullshit is this? Paladins been in RPG since DnD.

Iav also had somebody Complain about Large Scale PvE, because they think WoW invented it.

---------------

I remember during the Warhammer Beta times, when Fans would go Berzeker if anybody suggested the PvE get buffed and fixed. The excuse was always (This s a PvP game, WoW is a PvE game), as if a MMORPG can do well with crappy PvE now days.

IMO thats one of the main problems that brought War down from the start.

----------------

Cant you people see yet, that it is these newer WoW haters that are destroying the Genre. Not this Sandbox vs Theme Park thing that many people seem to blame on Blizzard. Because most Sandbox games fell hard on their own terms. Vanguard is a good example of this.

Personally, I don't hate MMOs.  Nor do I hate WoW.  I hate what MMO's have become because of WoW.

I think that kind of matches what you are saying in your post.

  • Wow haters were here from day one.  I remember multiple posts a few weeks after wow launched about how shallow the game was and yada yada yada.  I enjoyed the game, so the posts didn't bother me a bit.  However, I grew to understand the sentiment when I got really bored with the game about a year in and realized it was really a bunch of repetitive garbage.  Everyone should play wow to experience the sensation, but when you're bored after a year, it would be nice to have some deeper options out there for people to figure out what mmos are really about.  As long as the haters exist, it just shows how many people make up another market that should be catered to.

But would the WoW haters be lingering around the MMO genre if WoW never brought many of them to it?

     Stop doing stupid dramatizations.

I dont like the way WoW is nowadays, but if it wasnt for WoW this site would probably be empty and the market would be full of unpolished grinding crap.

So get on your feet and recognize what WoW and Blizz did for the genre. Including bringing millions of new ppl to it

I'm a long time UO veteran (played since T2A and for 5 years after that)

Beta tested DAoC and loved it, played that off-and-on until 2009.

I have bought and played almost EVERY MMORPG, often playing two mmorpgs at once.

    I'm a huge nerd.

I'm definitely "hardcore" in PvP and quite good at it, but casual in PvE.

I want a "real" MMORPG like the days of UO / EQ1.

    But this is what matters:

I think WoW is the best MMORPG on the market.

Why? Because it is. Hands down, it is. No other game comes even close to the FUN and ENJOYMENT of WoW. Every other MMORPG is horrid in performance while WoW has amazing graphics, often better artstyle and much better animations to other MMORPG's while being able to play on ANY system.

My Favorite MMORPGs: UO & DAoC in their prime.

But I admit WoW is the best, and I do NOT hate it.

So... as a big fan of the genre... as a hardcore mmorpger and a long time gamer... in my instance, your topic fits perfectly. I don't hate WoW, and I am productive to the genre (Wanting UO/DAoC being hardcore, but not being a masochist, a loser, or a insane weirdo who enjoys death penalties and corpse runs.)

I don't like wasting my time. EQ1's corpse runs, and UO's full loot and fast-disappearing corpses are the sole reason I never play those games anymore.

I'm currently playing: DARKFALL and WORLD OF WARCRAFT

It's the idiots who play Darkfall and hate WoW that ruin the genre. They hate WoW, which has almost everything anyone would ever want in an MMO (Polish, Crisp Animations, Amazing Performance with Good Graphics, great PvP, great PvE, a good leveling pace, amazing UI and breathtaking patch updates, with lots of balance compared to other unbalanced MMORPG's.)

    No death penalty.

    No forced grouping.

No full loot WITH open PvP where a lvl 100 can attack a lvl 1 and steal 5 hours of progress.

Difficulty is NOT based on timesinks!

    NO TO TIMESINKS AND GRIND!!!!!!!!

Yes to casual friendly, FUN video games that dont require work to have FUN.

That doesn't mean you can't have all the good parts of a "hardcore" or "true" mmorpg without the boring, unfun, senseless grinding and timesinks.

A lot of people feel that WoW hurt the genre and the majority of the gamers it brought into the genre are the dregs of gaming... so it's hard to be appreciative towards Blizzard for that.

If a WoW hater plays WoW in a forest but no one is there to see it, does it actually make a sound?

Sorry - got a bit goofy there.  What else are you going to do when your work day is winding down - heh.

Don't blame the players for the current state of the genre', and don't blame WoW.

Blame the developers of the games that have come out since. They just aren't very good.

edit...  Dont get me wrong, there are a couple out there with some further development can be very good, and I'm enjoying one right now. But yes, most games are a bit old and stale... including some new ones.

So it's other games faults that WoW has one of the most idiotic and immature communties in any MMO thus making me refuse to play the game anymore?  Wow did make MMO's mainstream and in doing so they opened the floodgates to terrible people in my opinion.

Yeah, they should remain the floodgates closed and ask for a beacon of mmo righteousness like yourself to decide who should or should not be allowed to play...

    The arrogance is astonishing

Then it seems a developer needs to make a more "intelectual" game that won't draw these players perhaps.

And theres been immature people in MMOs dating back to Neverwinter Nights on AoL... that was never going to change.

No matter what game I go to EQ2, DDO, WAR, Vanguard, you name it, the main subject in chat is WoW.

WoW's community is like a Wise Old Genius (incredibly mature and intelligent) compared to communities like DARKFALL.

I play both WoW and Darkfall. Although WoW is immature, I actually think slightly (perhaps 1-2%) more mature than is AVERAGE of the internet.

Darkfall's community is like giving 10,000 gay nerds a picture of a naked man's wide open butt and telling them "You may only talk if it comes from your penis, or your desire to perform gay rape."

Yea, I know that's gross. Darkfall's chat is horrific...full of racism and the type of people who would rape a disabled comatose woman if they were allowed to, and would BRAG about it to all their friends as if it makes them stronger...

WoW is not as immature as the majority of what I see in MMORPG's.

In fact, you could argue WoW is more mature, because the people being so immature are probably in their teens (which is justifiably immature) while other MMORPG's have even more immaturity and selfish jerk-assery yet their playerbase is in the age range of 20-40.

It's pathetic how adults act worse and more barbaric than children.

The Topic sounds like a Quest.

WoW Hater <--- Character walking through mists

Who came to MMORPG Genre after WoW <--- Some broken temple with weeds and vines growing around a stone Obliesk rising from its center

Are Destroying the Genre, not Blizzard <--- Character pulls out a glowing Mallet and runs towards the Obliesk  screaming a battle Cry of attack.

WOW's community is no worse than any other.  Just 1000X bigger than any other.  There are more mature, inttelligent people playing WOW than any other MMO.  Its just the facts.  Pure math to be exact.  The idiots are just louder and more vocal so thats what the average WOW hater likes to use as an example.  UO had its idiots.  EQ did too.  AC certainly did.  Eve does.  DOAC had lots too.  They all do.  But WOW has millions of players and those other MMOs didn't.  More players, more variety.

NY city dwarfs small town USA.  That doesn't mean NYC has a horrible community.  Its actually quite amazing.  But it has its dregs.  All MMOs do.  Most people who can't see that are usually the dregs whome they hate on=)

Well the problem exists that when it's "fantasy", you can pretty much do whatever you want with your "take" on it. You mentioned D&D. Human, 17+charisma, Lawful Good requisites come to mind.  By 3rd edition they dropped the req. scores... and by 4th they pretty much took a shit on their on IP and any history of it... and mind you this is the same company who developed the concept for the archtype that we know as Paladin.

Is it evolution of IP's? Pleasing the masses because of companies assuming that because WoW makes so damned much that everything needs to be similar to WoW in order to make a dime rather than take a risk to reinvent the wheel?

Honestly I think FFXIV will the the one who starts the next big trend... or rather takes from other ideas and refines it into something more applicable for todays desires. "The game features a reinvented character progression system which does not include experience points or leveling up." Sounds sorta like taking a page out of UO... which isn't a bad thing, nor has been really done outside of UO.

"There is only one thing of which I am certain, and that's nothing is certain."
