I wonder where the PvP is. You win real money with it like WOW on ESPN ?

So "real pvp" is where you have the chance to win real life cash for doing it?

Awesome lets all stop playing MMOs right now and play lotto!

    PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

    Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum

    Nah, just their combat styles.

In the end, aim-based(several times slower than your average FPS) or not, you still go after good gear, very high stats and spam your best damage abilities during combat.

For me, it's just a funny dance of denial: one style requires you to bash buttons every x second(s), the other requires you to play TF2 MMO(but several times slower). There's no difference between these two.

Slow aim-based combat isn't either hardcore, skillful or a requirement for a good MMO.

Im not sure if most peple know how DF combat work!

Aion use the same old system as almost anyother MMO. You target something and fires of your 1234567 and 1234567 and maybe 4 again (heal).

Now.....if almost eveyother MMOs use that, how could anyone understand how something completely different work? That has been a big issue on the DF forum. People just dont understand.

No targetting, manuel aiming, no floating neon name tags, collision detection, manuel dodging, realtime,  playerskill.....i think Darkfall almost automaticly wins over Aion.

Then just get like 10 friends and go together and kill everything  you see and you will have alot of money and gear in no time + you will be feared /endgame quit

Yeah, it's so hard to understand TF2 combat.

No, it says that I like WoW, not that I play it(simply because I don't have much time on my hands anymore for proper stuff in it).

I'm pretty sure I've played more games than you ever did, so I know a thing or two.

I'm not impressed by flashy videos and cool box features until I see how they actually are in-game, and I'm simply not impressed nor convinced that this twisted aim-style combat is so much better(or even slightly better) than targetting-based combat, unless you have Parkinsons and aren't able to move the mouse and shoot.

The only true MMOFPS was Planetside, I hope SOE will make a sequel.

For a reference, the actual aim-based combat that takes "player skill" in my eyes is Quake. This one is just....use it or lose it.

Good for you. Darkfall is not an MMOFPS, its an MMORPG with FPS aiming.

Simple and to the point I hope

    Which has better PVP:

    • The Darkfall PVP video, or
    • The Aion PVE video?

Oh god this comparison is so balanced and fair, I can't possibly decide!

How big are the hit boxes in Darkfall?  Say if I was aiming at someone fifty yards away with a bow?  Do I have to have the cross hairs on his body?  Say he was a hundred yards away?

    Just how realistic is it?

The hitboxes aren't that extreme.  Honestly they aren't that much fatter than the models themselves.

Don't really want to say the bow arc is "realistic", but it is an arc; and that makes hitting distant targets hard beyond a certain point (or more accurately, it allows a player to effectively dodge most of your shots if he moves in a reasonably erratic pattern.)  Landing shots in general isn't overly hard though, and the projectile's speed is pretty damn quick (otherwise it wouldn't just be "hard" to hit distant targets :P )

It's a bit weird to even discuss this element of DF combat because inevitably the overriding factors are just like other MMORPG PVP: have you grinded long enough, do you have the amazing gear, and did you bring twenty friends?  Which is why for some people this discussion is sort of pointless; because RTS, FPS, and Fighting genres (among others) are still gonna provide vastly superior PVP to anything you see in a MMORPG.

I'm giving Darkfall it's fair shake, and apart from the retardedly tedious things I have to do to increase certain skills it's not terrible.  But thus far it's failed to impress me as a PVP game, mostly because even though I'm a damn solid FPS player that doesn't mean anything when I die in 3-4 hits to a veteran and it would take 30+ hits for me to kill them.  FPS aiming is a great mechanic, and even though I complain about the cracked out PVE mobs (they run in circles and dodge like maniacs) it's that same cracked out behavior that keeps them interesting to fight against.

You think you have to have cross hairs on his body while aiming from far away? First play, then whine.
