So i was wondering which game is "better", or better for me. Any personal reccomendations are more than welcome :]
I personally love online gameplay, but unfortunatly do not have any friends that are PC gamers (there all console gamers due to cost). I also love customization, but repitiveness gets old fast with me.
Grinding is fine as long as its fun.
So i really dont know which i should get.. i love the graphics and customization of Borderlands, but im not too sure about the multiplayer experience. On the other hand i hear great things about left for dead 2, but im not sure how long it will take to complete the single player campain, (i love long gameplay) , and im also not sure if L4D2 has a good online community for random people joining in online mode.
Suggestions please? (sorry for the grammar)

Borderlands
It will last you longer and dlc will be much more frequent
I was a huge Borderlands fan at release, but it took them a month to fix critical bugs that caused my group of friends to stop playing and not more than a week after they released charged DLC. To me, that's a little messed up in priorities, but then again this isn't my main gripe with the game. Without giving any spoilers, the storyline is garbage and doesn't explain much if anything, unless they plan on furthering it with DLC (which again, sucks, imo). Once you get to 50, there's really no point to "farm" bosses, ala Diablo 2 style, since they drop the same item everytime and every chest in the game drops equal quality loot. Mob drops are garbage, at best.
There's just not enough to do once you hit cap and I had hoped it would keep me entertained for a long time farming loot and leveling, again, Diablo 2 style. The next DLC that is coming out is a rip-off, only adding 2 more arenas, which I never personally used, and giving your character 2 more talent skill points. As far as I know, nothing else is being added but they're still charging full price for it.
On the other hand, I was a part of the L4D2 boycott, not that it did much to the sales, due to Valves crappy content updates that came so late, long after L4D2 was announced. That being said, a friend of mine mentioned an article about Valve merging both games (L4D1 and 2) to allow them to be played together. I'm looking for confirmation, but I'm pretty sure this is accurate.
That being said, I personally would recommend L4D2, as it's more jump in and play friendly if you don't have anyone specific to play it with (although playing with friends is a blast, at least in 1). For Borderlands, it was only fun with two of my real life friends playing, and even that got old quick with the lack of content.
My two cents.
You can't go wrong with either of these games, buy em both..:=)
They are diffrent but both fun as coop, forget about playing them as singleplayer..
And ohh, there is no singleplayer campaign in L4D2..Its the same game with 3 bots

Valve's gonna update L4D2 next year and it's gonna be free for PC:

Not being a Valve fanboy, but I'd say L4D2 is a better game.
well i havent tried borderlands but i have a couple friends that have and said the game is great, but at the same time they only played it a lil bit because "our group of friends" doesnt play borderlands they felt its a great game but not fun without the friends playing with them. looks fun , i like that you can aquire items and save them for future games and such, so yes it does sound more deep for rpg aspect.
left4dead2 all our buddies got it,, theve upgraded the gameplay ALOT ,when you play a map each time it changes ,, sometimes very suttle other times itll be a entire new route, the game styles they added <scavanger , realism > brought a whole new life to the game for when you dont have a full hour to play you can still complete a game of scavenger. with that being said im kinda the same way you are where repeatiness gets boring to me, but that hasnt happened to me yet like l4d did. another problem which i dont know is/was fixed yet is a video card issue.... as i said above all my buddys got the game .. the demo was no problem at all but when the game realeased we started playing having a great time , then my buddies brand new 285 gtx started hard locking or booting him out the game, then my video card just crashed <was a very reliable 9800 gtx oc that i never had a issue with , a second buddy lost his 8800 nvidia card then he put in his ait card i dont know the exact model i would guess its about the same as his 8800 ....so he lost 2 cards .. i seen a big thread with everyone having the same problems... i rma'ed my card and also found a really cheap 250oc which is equalilent to 9800 gtx, btw the buddy with the 285 also got a brand new $450 ati i forget the model i wanna say 5870 .. but whatever is newest right now ,, hes scared to play l4d2 ... i took 3 weeks off it when it broke mine ,, i play again no problems yet ,, another buddy has a 8400 and had no issues the entire time and has been playing alot!
so down to my final thought, borderlands looks fun but im not gonna pay $50 and then $10 everytime they release a map. l4d2 has map editors so you can make your own or get maps others have made for free, and l4d2 will most likely add a campaign or 2 in the future.does borderlands even have a versus mode i dont know ,,, if it doesnt then its just a co-op rpg?
so whats your game?
Borderlands. 90% of the stuff in L4D2 is stuff that should have been parts of DLC for L4D1. Valve loses points for being greedy. Besides Borderlands is just all around a better game. Especially if you have already played L4D1 before.
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.
borderlands. L4D2 is not worth the money. Besides a focus on melee combat is a photo copy of the first in every way.
I disagree.. L4D2 is far superior to L4D1, scavange mode along has keeped me happy since release. LFD2 is getting a DLC in early 2010 that has the new cast meet up with the old, and a new special infected. So we could be talking 8v8 soon.. sweeeeeet!.
I found Borderlands quick to forget but then again I hated the visual look which probably sealed the deal.
I got bored of L4D2 fairly quickly... and wish I had spent the money on borderlands instead.
If you want some decently priced zombie killing action, pick up Killing Floor. It's not the same as L4D2, but it's good, chaotic, team based zombie stomping.
both have flaws.
L4D2 is just a clone of L4D1. If you have not played L4D1, then could be a good idea to buy it. Otherwise maybe you sould wait for a more fair price, like 20$ or $30.
Borderlands is a console game. Hence, you will be fighting the FOV, the UI, the text on the screen (the text don't fit on the box, theres a hack to make the text smaller in size, to see all). Networking is a pain.. If you have never forwarded ports, and plan to play this with friend, you can have problems. If you just want to play, not hosting, is better.
All in all, no game is perfect... I have both, but maybe is a better idea to buy Borderlands, since you probably have L4D1. It don't make sense to have: L4D1+L4D2 versus L4D1+Borderlands.
I have both of them.
L4D2 does follow the same mthodology as the first one but offers a lot more as well. I would not call it a clone but more what it is; a sequel. If you liked the first one you will like the second. The game is longer and has more modes than the first plus introduces new zombies and weapons, to include melee weapons. it is fun but only really enjoyable if you play with others.
Borderlands is great. Playing solo or with friends I have enjoyed it a great deal and it is a BIG game with lots to do. It will definately last you longer than L4D2. If you like massive diablo style looting and leveling then you will like Borderlands. The art and graphics are great too. As a note the DLC zombie Island is fantastic. In many ways it is better than much of the original content but you will need to be around 30th level before going there.
While both games have their pluses and minuses I would go with Borderlands.
My suggestion is to get both. I got first Borderlands for my PS3 and I still enjoy it. Sometime we connect up to four players and take a dusin of quest together. Later I got L4D2 because I really like the first. I really dont care about some say that L4D2 is thin ripoff the first L4D. When I got DOOM2 it was basic the same as DOOM. But L4D2 add ekstra guns, melee weapon and some really cool infested zombie in the game and made the combat for fun. We have some pretty nasty fights.
So I you can spare the money, then buy the both.
This is a second-hand opinion, because i didnt play borderlands. A friend of mine got it and according to him, he had tremendous fun with it leveling up, but after a certain point the game stopped having much of an appeal. Add that to the fact that the game costs 50 euro, and Im more than satisfied in playing a better (imo) version of the original L4D.
But if you have the means, I agree with some posters, and just get both. L4D2 is, controversy aside, and at the end of the day, a better game than L4D.
And to the poster above me, Duel is an awesome movie ;-)
I have tried both and I say that you get both of them if you can so you will always have an option if you feel that you're getting bored from one game. Both games are great but if you play them for very long hours it gets boring.
Yea, I would agree. Borderlands is a whole lot of fun with 2-4 people on a LAN game. Unfortunately, it's not that great in the early levels when you have so few abilities and it's not that great towards the end when elemental damage becomes extremely over powered. I played the hell out of it for a while, then lost all interest when I hit 50 with my first character. At that point, the game is only about spraying elemental DOTs...not much of a shooter.
But, I'd still recomend it, especially if you have some friends to play with. You might not play it long term, but you'll get your moneys worth.
Left 4 Dead 2 is a damn fun co-op shooter. That's what I'm playing right now. However...the PC version has somoe issues. A friend bought a box copy of the game for me and it would NEVER launch on my PC. Apparently, plenty of people have had the same issue and Valve/Steam really don't give a shit. F*** Steam! I'll make sure to avoid any of their BS in the future.
I'd hate to ever recomend any thing to do with consoles, but at least the game works on 360.
