OMG they did it! (Aion Review)
How I waited for this moment, at last an MMO that listened to the people, and boy did they listen. Nothing since DAOC has a game had so much potential, talk about addictive, this game needs a disclaimer lol. The flying is awesome, and a lot more tactical and skill based than you would think, I am not past level 25 yet, and love the scenery, music, mobs, community, everything is pucker.
They have thought of everything, you gota hand it to the Devs, the cool nuances of the game astound me, and yes I have played them all, and this blows them all out of the water, the single player part alone is better than oblivion, so that alone is worth a purchase. The maps are built ready for Expansions, expect more classes and more pvp areas. Which leads me to Elten, Aion has done something here that is very important, put levelling and questing right out in pvp territory, thus a lone 50 can go out and have some fun or lone 35 for that matter, this don't have to be group based at all, hell at times I play with just the mouse and not the keyboard, the macros are unreal, sure I bet there is a grind, but I level a few toons at a time, there is always something to do, believe me.
Most are saying the game only gets going at 25+ so hell maybe I should post again in a month or so if I am still playing. But look at DAOC now, it has 4000 players, yet still they are having fun out in RvR, Just the game is out dated badly, the movement is just dire compared to Aion. But Aion has flying, and cool flying that comes into combat, Death from above and all that, the flying alone will keep the player numbers up, truly it is incredible exploring the map though flight and gliding your way to a destination, this joy alone will keep this game going on for years....or well to a 3D one comes out ofc.
Anyway guys who like me, lost faith in the Devs of MMO's over recent years, found wow's hansel and gretel graphics just a little too under 12's, and found all the other mmos lacking in something, Far too grindy, poor graphics and movement, or like I say, missing something they could not quite put their finger on, then Aion will answer your prayers.
Found UK players on the Tele server, the others are filled with internationals altho they do speak English in LFG etc, top notch peeps on there, and channel hoping wtf, I love it!

P.S something interesting, becoz it is a grindy game, you are getting all different levels pvping, say a bunch of 20-35's get together and go pvp, point being if this was not a grindy game everyone in pvp (there to pvp) would be much higher levels and thus no fun for lowbs.

Glad you like it. As for me, I don't like the style. Korean / Asian style MMO's aren't my bag.
As for grinding, from what I hear, Aion has a terrible grind that is one of the worst out there.

FYI, I've probably played more than you give me credit for. Case in point: Anarchy Online Heckler grinding: an average 9 hours of CONSTANT heckler group killing for 1 level. And THAT was at L170. Only another 50 levels to go after that. I remember it well. Besides, I'm not going to get into a pissing match over how many MMO's I've played.
Like I said, from what I hear, Aion's grinding is bad. That's not from my own personal experience but from a very good real life friend whom I have played a lot of MMO's with throughout the years. He's the kind of person who can happily mine materials in Eve Online to make money, and he even thinks Aions grind after L25 is getting a little tough to endure.

No.. just no.
Are there games with more of a grind? Yes..
Does that mean that Aions grind somehow isn't bad? No..
Aions grind is bad because its one of the most boring in any game. 37+ Be prepared to grind in the same zone on the same mobs, with minimal quest interuption ( 3% -10% a level, max) if you want to progress at a decent rate.
To the OP : I'm glad you're enjoying the game... 25 is still very low to get a feel for what the game does and doesn't offer. By around level 35 you will understand what Aion offers as a game, get a few keep seiges under your belt... etc etc. If you still love the game then, wonderful.. I suspect like the majority of reviewers though, you will lose interest.
Im glad you found a game you like Op! I liked the artstylebut not the gameplay. The PVP was fun when I played.

Glad you liked it, unfortunately this game sucks.
But people still play WAR and AoC so theres a game for everyone I guess. Also this is probably one of the worst "reviews" i've ever seen for a game. The OP said you can level and still pvp at the same time like this hasn't been done in every other mmo? I don't even know if the OP has A) actually played Aion and
Ever played another mmo. Rifting was a neat idea at first but, i'd take zones where both factions get quests (non-abyss) over rifting anyday.
PS. there are no rifts in theobombos or however you spell it, you can level 20-30 (probably till 33) and 42-50 without doing any pvp at all in Aion.
I'm always glad when someone finds an MMO that's good for them. It may not be a game that I'm supportive of, but like a poster said above...there is a game for everyone.

QFT in all honesty the game is ok until you hit the high 30's thats where I couldn't stand it anymore.
Not passed level 25 yet? That's the reason your still addicted to it, once the grinding starts lets chat :P

Just because there are games that are worse does not mean Aion's grind is not bad. Worse = relative, bad is not always a relative statement although it can be. Sometimes it is an absolute statement but based in opinion.
This is an example of a very bad way of thinking, it makes you really easy to be taken advantage of by marketing dickheads and politicians. I suggest thinking about this for a bit. It is actually quite important. Be careful how you lie to yourself it can have far reaching consequences. I am not saying don't lie to yourself, that is simply unrealisitic we all do it in one way or another. When I broke my wrist I lied to myself and said its gotta be dislocated right? So I tired to put it back in socket. But then it just slumped right back out. Later on a doctor told me that was dangerous as you can cut blood vessels on bone fragments and what not. Of course I was in shock at the time and a more sober version of myself would not have done that.
This might seem like splitting hairs. But in point of fact I now know how you will makes excuses for things and simply need to follow that path and could easily run a con-job on you and have you do all the work of convincing yourself that is is bad is in fact good because its relative quality is better. It is then a simple step for me to get money from you for mediocre and crappy products.
The grind was bad enough that I stopped playing. I am not impatiant, I am not new to this genre or RPGs. I simply feel like I have better things to do. I would actually kind of like to play the game, but in the end it felt like I was just spinning my wheels for what is in the end just a game. Are some games worse? No question Lineage 2 is far worse time wise. But in the end the functional result is exactly the same. I am not playing either one. Therefore the grind is bad. In fact I could easily and persuasively argue that neither one is worse than the other because they achieve the same result from my perspective they are equally bad since they are functionally the same. If we measure them in time spent then Lineage 2 is worse. But so what?
-70 degrees celsius is cold. It is the tempurate of Liquid nitrogen. Liquid nitrgen is colder than water. Therefore you must be a complete wuss if you think zero degrees celsius is cold. No, they are both cold. This line of reasoning is demonstrably false. I know because I just demonstrated it. It is also common and rather harmful.
Water that is Zero degrees celsius is cold. Some people still swim in it. Aion has a fairly bad grind. Some people still play it. I would like to go swiming but it is too cold would not be much fun for me. I would like to play Aion but the grind is bad and makes the game less fun for me.
How do we know what is cold? Well we don't do it by asking Eskimos. Generally if a significant number of people react to it as if its cold we say something is cold. In general even eskimos and crazy Polar Bear club people who may swim in freezing water and won't admit that the weather is cold when its 10 degrees Celsius outside will still admit that a gallon of milk kept in a refridgerator is cold. Because in the end we all know that its feels cold to the touch even if most people would not say touching a cold gallon of milk is unpleasant.
Well a significant number of people stopped playing Aion because of the grind. Therefore its a bad grind even if numerically time wise its less than lineage 2. It was unpleasant enough to stop playing, therefore its bad. This may not even be a majority, but in general if 1/3 or so find it unpleasant that has enough weight. A significant number of people find Zero degrees celsius an unpleasnatly cold temperature even if people from northern climates might not say so. Although strip em naked and almost all of them will admit it, fact is they just found ways to cope with it and don't know it or admit it. Just like people from Florida don't understand how to dress warm and don't wear something wind resistant and say they are cold because all they have on in a sweatshirt. Just like mant people have learned to cope with grindy games.
Yet when people from cold climates retire for some reason they just keep moving to Florida even though it was never really cold up there.

Lineage 2, especially in the early chronicles had a bad grind. I think it took me a week to get to 20.
Aion's grind, if one wants to just grind is nowhere near that.

There have been a lot of "first post praises" lately on these forums. Its as if the company is hiring people to go and spread the word. It seems a bit TOO enthusiastic if you ask me. Then again, I've been called a shill before when clearly I'm not... so whatever.
Just it seems a little fishy to me with it being his first and only post, is all.

Aion grind is not bad at all. In fact I think it's easy considering almost anything you do gives you exp and their are tons of quests.
I'm saying this based on my expirences with Aion, and quite a few actually grindy games i've played, plenty disagree, plenty agree.
You say it is hard, because you haven't expirenced anything much harder, to players who have played far more grindy games, aion is easy mode.
Saying that Aion however, has "one of the worst grinds" is simply untrue, their are far to many games that deserve that title way before aion does.
Grind is something that you the player CHOOSES to do. You don't have to grind in Aion (or most other games). I spent last evening grinding FT, but that was my choice. There are tons of things to do in Aion, so why spend it on something you don't like to do?
Don't feel like grinding? Then don't. Work on crafting, go shopping, roleplay, explore, practice skydiving, join a rifting or abyss pvp group, see how far into the Eye you can get without dying, patrol lowbie zones for gankers, and prolly lots of stuff I'm leaving out.
If you're not enjoying the game, you shouldn't be playing.

Sadly enough NCSoft admitted that Aion is a bad grind 35+. That's why they are introducing Double EXP weekends now a few times a month, and in there words they said they are doing this as a temporary fix until there big patch next year that will fix this (More and Better Quests with the quests giving correct xp).
Check there recent annoucement to see for yourself.
Hahaha, the only problem is that these double XP weekends are for level 1-35 only.
Just right where the quests start to drop off (lvl 35 is the last good quest xp level, after this is goes down hill fast). That's what the game needed to push the players into the bad 35+ grind faster
Even more so, thanks to the double xp they had before lvl 36 they will hit the wall even harder
